MickB
I'm replacing the Recoil Master that came with my .40 edge. I'll be trying 12.5lb and 14lb ISMI recoil springs. My intent was to use the existing reverse plug that came with the recoil master and use a one piece stainless EGW full length guide rod. http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=23756/Product/1911-AUTO-ONE-PIECE-GUIDE-ROD Will this combo work without any fitting issues, or should I buy the STI FLGR and a new reverse plug? http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=12436/Product/1911-AUTO-ONE-PIECE-GUIDE-ROD http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=12422/Product/1911-AUTO-REVERSE-PLUGS Mick
blaster113
dont think any of those guide rods would work without fitting. you're looking for the EGW full length guide rod for STI pistols. the STI frame is a little smaller so you would have to file down the guide rod to fit. I swapped out the RM in the Edge I used to have with an EGW full length STI rod and used the factory reverse guide rod plug with no fitting. One of the guys in our club tried the STI made guide rod and it wouldnt fit his Edge without fitting. http://shootersconnectionstore.com/EGW-Guide-Rod-1-piece-stainless-5-STI-P352.aspx looks like they're out of stock but this is the rod you want. BTW a recoil spring in the 12-13 pound range is what everyone seems to be using.
gunfixer
I replaced the Recoil-Master on my Edge before it went away... W/ a Dawson-Precision "Tool-Less" FLGR... Dawson Tool-Less FLGR Excellent and convenient..! I highly recommend it... Eric Pay attention.. There is one for a Bull Barrel and another one for bushing barrels.. 392heminut
I've built 3 Guns with STI 2011 receivers and 2 with SV receivers and I've never had to fit a guide rod to the receiver. I HAVE had to bevel the top of the rear shoulder to clear the lower lugs on the barrels, but I've also had to do that with single stack receivers too. Aircooled6racer
Hello: I would use the 5" Briley aluminum guide rod with the take down hole. You can find them from Power Factor Shooting in the dealer forum here I am using some in my 6" limited pistols and a couple of single stacks as well as my IDPA 9mm 2011. Sean also sells some stainless steel guide rods also. Hope this helps. Thanks, Eric

I used it to replace my Recoilmaster after it broke and I've never had a problem with it. It comes with a reverse plug as well so you don't have to worry about fitting issues. MickB
To answer my own question, I got the factory STI FLGR from brownells and used the existing reverse plug. I had no issues with it. The STI FLGR dropped right in. With the paper clip as a tool, takedown is easier than with the recoil master and the green takedown doohicky... Aircooled6racer
Hello: If you want to try to take out a little weight from your Edge you should try the Briley aluminum guide rod. Thanks, Eric

jimmcc
I used a Wison tungsten and drilled my own take down hole.
MickB
Interesting thing to note is that the 12.5lb ISMI spring seemed very snappy in recoil, so I switched to the 14lb spring. Even then, recoil felt sharper than with the Recoil Master. I will have to use the Recoil Master with the same lot of ammo, but the pistol definitely felt more lively in the hands. Ammo used was 165gr Montana Golds with 6.2 gr WSF that makes 170 PF. maybe I need to go with a 16lb recoil spring or try 180 gr bullets at a lower velocity? Different powder? For the guys using the 12lb recoil springs, what bullet weights, powder and PF are you running? Mick Edited February 27, 2012 by MickB
gunfixer
I have a 12.5 in my Eagle running oal 1.185 w 180gr. pulled jacketed tfp bullets and 5.1gr. of N320.. Ran the same in my Edge..
