Aircooled6racer
Hello: Try some Kroil(sp) oil and let it soak. Try tighten and lossen and go slow. The stainless on stainless has picked up a burr I think. Heat will help also. Thanks, Eric
shooterbenedetto
after 1 hr of soaking in liquid wrench, heated again and it just moved 1/4 inch back and forth. Been working for 2 hrs now..dont look like its moving anywhere. Will just put it in lathe and cut a Dawson TJ compensator!! live and learn right? wide45
Stainless on stainless is prone to galling. Titanium is worse. Use a small amount of antisieze compound on the threads when trial fitting the parts together. Soak it in penetrating oil. If that does not work try heating the comp with a torch. You may have to cut the comp off to save the barrel. Edited July 9, 2011 by wide45
shooterbenedetto
Eric thanks for the reply, wide45, I tried it again and no luck galling seems to get worse after heating it up. i will soak it in liquid wrench 24hrs. lets see what happens. If not i will have to cut the comp, put on lathe to take off to save the barrel.. Thanks for all replies.
Toolguy
It has already galled. You will have to cut it off to save the barrel. At this point probably only a few threads are messed up. If you keep trying to twist it, more and more threads will get ruined. After you get it off, you can run a thread die over the barrel and clean up the damaged threads and continue on.
