BlueOvalBruin
Define "hand press". Are you talking a single-stage or a progressive? He probably means this:
Duane Thomas
That's what I was thinking, as well. If so, the answer would be, "Not if we have any choice at all in the matter. Get a progressive press." However I am also well aware that Lee does offer the Pro 1000 progressive for sale, too.
mds131s
I would suggest a G34 a little over what you wanted to spend but I feel that it's a great starter gun
Arisaka99
yup, thats my press, it has a clamp welded to it so it can be attached to a range bench
Flexmoney
180 .40 not good for minor?!? What ever gave you that silly idea??? The fact that at 720 fps, the accuracy at 50 yards reeks. A 135 at 1000 is flatter and just as soft, with groups sizes that are less than half of what the 180s at 720 shoot. If you don't shoot past 25 yards, not a big deal. But I am not wanting to zero 50 yards standards stages, and yes we have them. I wish somebody would have told me that before I shot them at Nationals...maybe I would have got a better plaque than what I did. However, I do recall doing rather well on any shooting beyond 25y. Arisaka99
Well, today she claimed that she never said I could get a gun, so I guess Im screwed.

Rangertim
I know the Glock has way more popularity, but it just didn't fit my hand. I shoot a 5in Springfield XD in 9mm and love it! Glock or XD, whatever fits you the best. Either is a great choice. Good luck in your new hobby. It's a black hole that will suck you in and you'll never get out! Arisaka99
IDK especially since I already have 4???? I can have my buddy buy it and pay him for it because she doesn't want to buy it.
Flexmoney
That gets into "straw purchase" territory...which is highly illegal. (and will kill any further discussion here on this forum - Admin.) Best to be honest with your Mother and find out what her objections might be. Perhaps she just watched A Christmas Story and fears You might present the idea of practical shooting as an activity that you and your Mother can do together. She likely needs to see that it can be a safe, fun, family activity.
EkuJustice
Or go watch a match with her so she can see that it is a safe and very supervised sport not just a bunch of idiots running around with guns.
Arisaka99
Well, she just doesnt want to deal with the fact that if something happens it is under her name. "she doesnt take writing her signature lightly" those were her exact words when we bought the Beretta.
Jman
And good words they are! Jim
98sr20ve
Then just shoot the Berretta. It's a "good starte gun". Much better then the Glock you don't own but want to buy. Mostly because you actually own one and not the other. Edited January 6, 2011 by 98sr20ve

98sr20ve
Well, darn. What do you have then? I do think your Mom might benifit from visiting a match, especially the safety class.
Arisaka99
I may be able to borrow a gun from my buddy, but idk.
