  1. From what I understand back in old Will's time the word "lawyer" meant something else then it does today. I hear it meant "legislator". That does nothing to change my agreement with the plan. This is so funny since the real point of that part of the play is that the perpetrators wanted to eliminate justice and freedom. The only way to do that was to "first get rid of the lawyers"
  2. TGO is to shooting what Eddy Merckx was to cycling. (Most cyclists dont consider Lance to be the best ever)
  3. Thanks for all the replys. I dont want to start off my career as a job jumper. I am not as interested in the money as having a life. I know that litigation is time consuming and I will be working alot but there still is a little room for flexibility there. I am not thinking hard of leaving at the moment really anyway.
  4. That is my biggest issue. This company hired me and took the chance while the others wouldnt. Now that they know I am good the others want in.
  5. I am in a very weird position right now or at least one that I am not accustom to. I have only been practicing law for a couple of months but am constantly getting job offers. I am in hearings about 5 times a week, often against well known attorneys, and have been getting a lot of offers as I am basically leaving the courtroom after doing a good job. Most of the attorneys I am up against have no idea that I am new until they look me up on the state bar. At this point they call me and offer a job since they think I have a lot of potential. My current company has been really good to me also. They have basically offered me what ever I want to stay and have raised my salary by a considerable amount in 4 months. There is no question that I could make a lot if I stay. My question arises that there are lifestyle factors that I don’t think they would ever agree to. I want more flexibility with hours even though I will maintain my billable hours well above what is required. What importance do you guys give to loyalty to a company that has been really good to you, and will continue to be, as compared to other things you want out of a job? Or maybe the better question is, how important is it to you to be loyal to a company?
  6. I am a lawyer but I do Family Law. No gun rights stuff, just clients trying to kill their spouses.
  7. I am so damn busy at my new job that I havent shot a single round since area 2. Man is that sad. Of course I like my new job so I guess it evens out a little.
  8. It is very understandable if she is having a tough time with the whole situation. Her parents got divorced at a tough age and now her mom is living with someone new. There could also be a ton of other emotional issues that we dont know about (like other boyfriends prior to you and other issues with her father or mother). It is a tough situation and you are really expecting a lot of of someone at a tender age. What have you done to deserve her respect? You cant just jump into her life and expect to be a parent and have the respect of one. Young people should give others respect but your situation isnt an easy one.

  10. I hate to say it but there has definately been a decline in politeness here in the last year. There seems to be a growing trend towards the idea of "you need thicker skin". Most other places on the internet I will agree with this. The politeness was always the best thing about this place. What other forums have you actually meet a bunch of the members? I think it is very simple...Follow the rules or go be rude somewhere else.
  11. Let me know when you are out here and we'll get some drinks
  12. I cant believe there wasnt a "DAMN LAWYER" comment in there.
  13. I have been busting my ass networking the last 2 months and it really paid off well. It was all due to UH alumni that hooked me up with contacts.
  14. I am really sorry. My oldest is 11 also and has a heart murmur. I hate the thought of ever putting her down.
  15. Well, it might have taken a few months but today I got a great job offer that I am going to accept tomorrow. It will be practicing family law which is what I wanted to do. The firm is very progressive and has great business sense. I will be starting right after the new year.
  16. That is great!! That is my dream to someday have my own practice also. Good luck!
  17. Rosetta stone is suposedly very good but pretty pricey.
  18. Cy, I was wondering the same thing. I dont know if you realize it but most libraries carry the CD's. Some are even available to be checked out on line for like 3 weeks and can be downloaded.
  19. Couldnt break past 20 for a while but then I hit 36.
  20. Glad to hear your doing good.
  21. I prefer a bunch of lights over the computer controlled stuff.
  22. I agree with TL 100%. It irks the living SH** out of me that these big pansies get their company buildings built with tax dollars.
