  1. i am looking forward to it as well, that crazy steel stage last year was a hoot. the mud was cool too, maybe it'll be cold and wet enough to use as a warm up for mammoth. Fingers crossed.
  2. "Fun" for whom? "Fun" by what measure? It's not universal - and it can be equipment/division sensitive. Well you can't please everyone all the time I guess. By dumbing down a stage and making it lower capacity so guys with shotguns don't have to load as much you are taking the challenge out and the fun. I shoot both open and tac optics and having to load more in tac optics with my shotgun does not bother me or make it less fun. It makes it more fun actually as loading the shotgun is part of the game. I hate it when match directors try to design stages to make it easier for any division. Sorry but in my opinion that is the wrong way to do things. We all chose the divisions we shoot if a stage is better for an open shooter due to round count I say tough get over it. I am not saying every stage should be a high round count field course but all the stages should not be 8 to 12 round shotgun stages either. Saps the fun right out of the match to have everything be easy. Pat You keep coming back to lower round count, I never said that. All I suggested was to incorporate movement and or multiple shooting positions, neither of which neccessarily makes a stage easier or less challenging. IMO the challenge is what makes it fun, not the # of rounds. YMMV
  3. Counter point. Why should we make stages easier for some types of guns or equipment. That is what divisions are for. I don't want to make short shotgun courses with 12 rounds or less because not everyone has an AKDAL or a Saiga. I don't think dumbing down the courses of fire does anything other than make the match less fun. Pa I didn't say anything about making stages easier, shorter or dumber. For example, while not eliminating mag capacity advantage entirely, movement between target and target arrays will provide time to reload or in the case of SG more time to reload. Another thing would be making rifle targets VISIBLE, paticularly long range rifle targets. Low ports, high ports, difficult shooting positions, all can be used to even up equipment disparity IF you want to make stages heads up friendly.
  4. IMO most perceived advantages/disadvantages due to differing equipment can be for the most part eliminated through stage design, at least at club level matches.
  5. Beer Gardens at matches? I wouldn't mind having one here, where are y'all getting the seeds?
  6. I just read the rules and have a question with regard to the no reduced recoil slugs for HM. How is that determined? I have slugs that recoil a lot less but don't say reduced recoil anywhere on the box. A lot of the LE SG ammo is reduced recoil too. I guess what I'm asking is do we have to use hunting slugs?
  7. www.mammothsniperchallenge.com A good match and a good challenge.
  8. For those who feel they need or want some sort of unification/uniformity then 3GN and USPSA already have them covered.
  9. This year's match had challenging stages, great food, great prize table, and a reasonable match fee. This event , like the original one will only get better each year. (remember the initial hiccups of FTB3G scoring?) With the SE3GC crew having a year to come up with ways to exploit the awesome potential of the Legion facility I'd look for the stagery to be epic, the food to still be great and prize table as well. As far as more people making the trip, I'm sure they will, but that is a two edged sword, be careful what you wish for, LOL
  10. Is there a recommended torque setting when installing rings to a picatinny rail? Or is it something like as tight as possible without breaking it? Should threadlocker be used?
  11. Thanks. This should be an interesting match, not to mention (but I will anyway) an interesting dicussion once the details are out. I am sure that there are more than a few of us looking forward to the details/dates etc.
  12. Will this World Championship match use 360 as the major PF or something a bit higher?
  13. World Championship? Is it going to be a sure enough "invitational"? How does one get an invite? Will Papa John's be supplying the paper targets? Is this just more pot stirrage?
  14. Maybe I am just a capitalist pig. If my business was selling out in 2 minutes id raise the price and produce more products. If said business were largely subsidized by volunteer labor, would they then be paid or would it continue to be a labor of love for your business? Some ROs may also be capitalst pigs.
  15. If I can be "guaranteed" a spot at a match that immediately fills, that would also mean that someone else is guaranteed to not get in. It doesn't sound like a very neighborly process. But hey, I think that a MD can and should run their show the way they see fit, just post the registration process with the announcement and rules like usual and let everyone decide for themselves.
  16. I wonder what kind of participation 3-gun would get over 2-gun if full powered SG loads were required, either by rules or steel settings? I mean a whole 2 day match with SD loads and slugs. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't, the ammo would be expensive, sure, but the Chiropractor would probably be even more.
  17. I can't speak about the USCA match since I wasn't there, but I do like the idea of carbine/pistol matches. For me the SG is a take it or leave it type thing unless there are birds involved.....or a match.
  18. If Peter's interest in peaks has been piqued, perhaps he should take a peek at Pike's peak, eh?
  19. Speaking of nit-picking.... while not spelled incorrectly "peaked" should be piqued.
  20. That is probably just some of the wind that Joe ordered for January showing up early.
  21. Looking forward to this match, but not the gauntlet betwixt Montgomery and Blakely. Does anyone know of an area of special interest or where special care should be taken?
