  1. to Open or not to Open, that is the question...

Open! I want to see all the new toys.. and it moves me up one spot in Tactical

Heh, it would have been an easy choice if all my stuff was ready to go, but Im not going to have time to get my open pistol running before the match, so I'll have to borrow one (or maybe just use my limited one). I wont have the shotgun until end of next week, so I'll be betting on that its working OOB...

I'll Openify the rifle by slapping on a bipod, so at least I have one out of three ready to go...

Been wanting to shoot Open for so long that I'm not sure I can suffer through another match in Tac ;)

  2. Does it have to be mounted on the actual rifle?

I don't see anything in the rules that stops you from carrying a flashlight in your hands, attached to your hat etc., but I think setting up a generator and arc light on a tripod might be considered gamesmanship  . I imagine most folks will want to attach something to their rifle, and we are just letting everyone know that it will be OK to do this without violating the rules. Some may decide against using a light at all - it will be their call when they see the stage.

I found a nice and cheap 4500 lumen floodlight... now I just need to figure out a good carrying system for the car battery.

  3. I was told by a Swarovski rep at the Shot show that the new second gen scopes had a battery saving feature that when the scope was side ways or up side down that the dot will shut off. The theory being that if the scope was side ways the rifle had probably been set down. It made me happy that I had just received a first gen scope as there are times in 3 gun where the gun may be sideways. Have you noticed this to be the case in your second gen scope or was the rep misinformed?

The feature can be turned off, so its not that big of a deal, but the feature is useless at best and disaster at worst (if you forget to turn it off) and since the only other upgrades are minor exterior ones it doesnt really make me want to run out and upgrade my Z6is.

AFAIK, they'll only produce the Gen 2 moving forward and since the glass and illumination are the same in the Gen 1, I'd much rather buy a used Gen 1 than a new Gen 2 if I'd ever needed another one...

    YMMV

  4. I need to take mine to the range and document the issues I'm having... seems like I can't run more than a mag or maybe two through mine without a FTE or FTF, no matter what ammo or mags I try.

I'm the same exact way and had ejection issues with mine. I bought it in a group buy on another forum. It was a jamm-o-matic. When I got around to emailing them, they wanted to replace the recoil spring and sent me one right out. Didn't fix it. So I'm just about to email them again and the guy on the forum that ran the group buy posted up that they were recalling the bolts and wanted to replace everyone's entire bolt assembly. So I sent mine to him and had another one in about 10 days. Nordic shipped directly to all of us. Turns out I was shooting a SC match the next morning, so I ran it as a second gun in rimfire. Fixed! :goof: Not a single failure to eject since. It went from a cussing demonstration every time I went to the range to one of the funnest rifles I have to shoot now.

Call Nordic, they redesigned the bolt incorporating some changes they learned from Remington. Don't know what the changes were but several of the guys didn't want to change bolts at all because their rifles were running great. Nobody I'm aware of is having any problems at all, and now that includes me. :)

Got mine back and even though the slip in the package said that they couldnt reproduce the problem they went ahead and installed the new bolt and did some minor polishing anyway..

Seems to have done the trick... Took it out to the range and ran a few hundred rounds of various brands that caused me issues earlier and it was flawless. :)

  5. 8.1: Following the 2012 3GN season, the top 25 3GN Semi-Pro Series competitors will earn an invitation into the 2013-2014 3GN Pro Series Qualification match (Venue TBD). These slots will go to the top 25 only. Any unused slot will be forfeited and go unused.

I would guess this will change and 3GN will need at least 25 shooters to make up for losses in the PRO series.

    David E.

Fewer people from the semi-pro series will just make it easier for the bottom 16 pros to qualify, so actually getting 25 isnt really needed in anyway. The only thing they need to make sure is that the bottom 16 pro + the top 25 semi-pros actually adds up to the number that leaves the pro tour.

But yeah, the turnover in the Pro series is probably going to be at least 10 shooters and I'm guessing that not all of those top 25 from semi-pro will actually go to the qualifying match, so the qualifier match will probably not have too many shooters.

  6. A lot of people seem to like the WOA SPR 18".. I have one, I like it :)

I have two and there are 5 in the group of my friends and I. They are great.

Or the WOA 20" SDM barrel, if you prefer a 20". Have one on one of my rifles now and I'll most likely use the same for my next build.

So, what is the better barrel length for 3G? 16 or 18?

Personally I prefer 18 or 20". I started out with two CTR-02s, one 16 and 18, and went with a 20" for my third match rifle. After getting the 20" and pitching the different rifles against each other at practice the 16" started collecting dust in the safe. I couldnt really find any uses where it was faster or better than the 18 or 20.

  7. I am totally confused on the Semi Pro verse Divisional series. It looks like both have decent prizes for the winners and a chance to make the Pro Tour but the only real differences seem to be the matches. Since I'm already signed up for Texas Multi-Gun and it's not listed on the Divisional series, I guess I'm signing up for Semi Pro.

I don't think the "Divisional Series" let you have a chance at PRO; only semi-pro has a chance to compete for PRO.

    David E.

Well, the email I got from Pete a couple of weeks ago stated that there will be a qualifier match to get into PRO for 2013 and that "Yes, it will be open to all comers", but this doesnt seem to jive with the information that you have to shoot the semi-pro division for a year to qualify to the qualifier match...

    Are we confused yet? :)

  8. Have any of the people making the baseless accusations of impropriety considered how much you are insulting all the shooters who busted their ass and made list :angry2:

I dont think there's any impropriety going on, just a less than ideal information flow.

3GN should know by now that a lot of people are watching and analyzing to death every piece of information that comes out, or gets posted on their web site. I really wish they stopped posting, or releasing, half-finished lists or information, especially without any more real substance attached to it.

Things usually come together in the end, but it usually takes some firefighting by someone from the 3GN team.

  9. I have no doubt they are going down the list. We can joke about pro vs. semi pro vs. amateur; and how I could smoke more than half of the pros that are in the Pro tour with a mini14, hi point, and maverick, , but Pete and Chad would never do anything like go outside of their rules to pick who they wanted. Their integrity, in my opinion, is unquestionable.

I hearby admonish you, assaulter, for hinting otherwise.

I could have worded that better. The origin of my question lies in the fact that the ranking list of last years series is gone from the website, so it's impossible to see where people were at. I didn't think about how that came across until you pointed it out. My aplogies for that.

I just looked at it... its there now.

    http://3gunnation.com/the_series/standings/s/overall_standings/P0/

There are at least a few on that "shooters list" that were well outside the top 100, so I doubt that list is really official.

  10. OK I learned enough to ask a question now. Reading over the 3Gun N. pages I find one page that says -Membership- is $100 But the page that Mark linked to says Membership is $25

Picking Pro means paying $675, which includes two one day matches (one in GA and one in FL), exclusive for the 64.

It also means youre eligible to qualify for the shoot-offs at the three "regular" matches that have shoot-offs; LaRue, FNH and the ProAm.

  11. I shoot at an indoor range and sweep up any brass laying around. I have accumulated thousands of 9mm. It is the most wildly used caliber. If you go to a gun show you should be able to buy used 9mm brass for $35. to $50. per thousand. Another idea is to ask at your local indoor range. They usually sell used brass that they sweep up. It matters not to me what brand. Only military brass with crimped primers cause a hiccup.

No need to go to a gun show, once fired mixed headstamp 9mm brass can usually be found online for $30-40 shipped.
