  1. The only way to find out if it is "you" is to have someone that knows computers, and what to look for, look in the e-mail "header." The Header will tell you what e-mail server and potentially what e-mail address it is coming from for real. As an example, At my office my mail server gets Spam from 50 different "reply to" addresses all over the united states, but when you look at the headers, it all is coming from one spammer server in Argentina.

Not even the headers will tell the whole tale a lot of the time, since spoofing the "Mail from:" is about as easy as setting a "Reply to". The use of open relays or hacked servers on "known" domains also makes it harder to track down where it's really coming from.

Three tips to keep your accounts and computers safe:

a ) Use strong passwords. You are way less likely to get your accounts hacked if you come up with some really good passwords and write them down a note you stash somewhere in case you forget.

b ) Dont reuse passwords for different accounts

c ) Dont use that poor excuse of an operating system from Redmond, if you absolutely have to, stay away from the shitty email client and browser that come with it.

  2. Bill Sahlberg from higher capacity will make you 170mm 9mm magazines. www.highercapacity.us If you buy the new k-9 mags, grams followers and springs and hennings new h1410 base pads and mail them to Bill he will weld them together and make you 170mm mags. I had two of them made and they work. I can get 29 in them easily and 30 if you want to really stuff them in there. He was willing to work with me and explain to me what I needed and had them done really fast.

How much extra will the 141O basepad do compared to just welding it to 170mm?

  3. Just back from the range after another ~250 rounds of testing.

Ran a few mags with the 6lbs recoil spring without any FTEs and decided to try the 8 lbs one. Still no FTEs with the 125 and 131 pf loads, but I ended up with one FTE with the 120 pf load. Seems like the new extractor did the trick!

    Getting there...

25y accuracy seemed to be the same between the three loads, so I'll probably do another 500 round test with the 131 pf load for now.

However, one of my mags was giving my an FTF on the last round, locking the slide open. Seemed like it might not have enough juice to go all the way back, since a light pull and release put it back in battery. It only happened a coupled of times with one of the mags, so thats the next thing to figure out, though its not really as big of a deal as the frequent FTEs and potentially a topic for a different thread... ;)

  4. So as long as the slide locks up the same way, the barrel prints the same place, the frame is pointed in the same place, good trigger squeeze straight to the rear and the pistol recoils the same way while the bullet is still in the barrel... you get accuracy.

Not really disagreeing, just saying that the frame to slide fit usually isnt the most important piece of the puzzle. :)

  5. The offhand and Ransom Rest testing I have done with OAL in my glock 17, 34's have shown that shorter oal are more accurate with the same powder charges... I started at max oal, with the same powder charge and only varied the oal and the groups tightened. Starting at ~1.165 (if I recall correctly) and went down to 1.130. Groups started at about 5 inches and went down to 2.75 at the shorter oal at 25 yards. Also I found that best accuracy was either above or below the trans/ supersonic transition. Naturally every weapon is a bit different but overall with the stock barrel I was able to get groups as small as ~1.25 with 10 rounds at 25 yards, the best repeatable was ~1.50. My uspsa production loads (shoots clean, low recoil, accurate, and cycles quickly) are with variants of 124gr, 147gr and N320/ power pistol. Generally I am satisfied with 2 inches or less at 25 with my stock barreled Glock race pistols. My favorite carry round also shoots under 2 inches. These are all shot with stock top ends (barrel, slide/ frame fit is unchanged from factory) and federal (FC headstamp) range brass cleaned with stainless media, winchesterSP primers (cheap and decent es/sd for when I can't get federal SP).

So I am a bit skeptical of having to pay someone a bunch of money to get 2 inch groups out of my glocks when some time and attention to detail

Sidebar- if anyone wants me to test their bullets or components feel free to send them to me ;)

Interesting that you got good results from a RR. When I ran a bunch of tests in a RR, I realized I could shoot better groups (and really good ones) from a sandbag. I figured that was because of the somewhat sloppy fit between frame and barrel/slide which made it look like the accuracy wasnt there. Sloppy fit between frame and slide might mean that the slide doesnt align exactly the same way every time, which would explain larger groups in a ransom rest where the frame is fixed. That fit wont be as detrimental to accuracy when shooting from a sandbag, since you'll actually adjust your aim between shoots and as long as barrel/slide fit is good, accuracy will be there.

So, I'm somewhat sceptical about accuracy improving a lot by tightening up slide to frame fit, since my experience says that it doesnt really matter much. Maybe they did something more than just tightening up the fit, but thats how its marketed?

  6. Got my new extractor from Henning today and just like I suspected, the current one has pretty much every area and angle worn or "tuned"

Top is the new one for reference.

I'll throw in the new one and give it a spin without modifying anything else...

  7. i have 6 of the new mags and have had to tune 5....the last one just started to give me problems....its next to be tuned. the only problem seems to be a failure to fully eject spent rounds.....not sure why....i tuned them and all failures stopped.....running 100% again.....not saying that is the problem in this case but its worth checking

So, what tuning is needed for the mags? Though, in the case where the empty case is still sitting in the chamber, I doubt the mag has much to do with it, but I might be hitting several different issues here...

Have you run any 165PF+ ammo through it?

It will be used exclusively for 3-gun, so no need to run anything but minor loads through it. If I cant get it to work with minor loads, I'll get rid of it. I've seen too many cracked Tanfoglios to want to run major loads in it...

  8. I feel your pain, feederic! I'm in Carlsbad, and there's no way to practice shooting while moving, shooting multiple targets, etc. You have to haul way out to the desert.

It's no wonder that all these top shooters are from the middle of nowhere -- they can just roll out their back doors and shoot in their backyards!

They dont have any practice time available at Pala?

  9. Update... (had a baby, so not much time to play around with my guns)

Threw in a 14 lbs main spring and tried with 10, 8 and lastly a 6 lbs recoil spring. The loads tested were 125 and 131 pf, but neither worked. I'm still having extraction issues where the empty case sometimes gets stuck between slide and barrel and sometimes wont even make it out of the chamber (it falls out easy enough when I clear the jam, so its not really sticking in the chamber).

Guess tuning the extractor is the next step...

On the good side, no FTFs and the 14 lbs main spring seemed to set off the primers just fine.

  10. I don't see Production becoming the predominant division at the highest levels of competition. It may become predominant by shear numbers with all the new shooters coming into the sport.

Why not, it's pretty much what happened in IPSC?

Production was the largest division at the WS in Greece last year.

Not due to popularity but due to all the regulations on gun ownership. the rest of the world is much like New York and Kalifornia, high caps are a no no.

Really? I dont know of a single country in Europe that has a restriction on mag capacity for handguns. I hvent lived, or shot, much in Africa, Asia or South America so not really sure what the deal is there, but Canada and Australia are pretty much the only countries I know of with those restriction.

If you look at the trend, Open and Standard are decreasing and Production is increasing in size and this has been the case for several years now. Also, IPSC production didnt have a mag restriction until fairly recently and its now 15 rounds, not 10.

So I beg to disagree, I dont think restrictions had much to do with it, if at all.

  11. Why are more people not running them in Limited? The TS has all the necessary aspects to become a great limited gun. What am I over looking?

Because they look around and see what other people are using, and the 2011 is the most common limited gun. A lot of people are also firm believers in that nothing but a 2011 is good enough in Limited...

The TS _is_ a great limited gun, you didnt really over look anything ;)

  12. PDX is the big airport to fly into. Portland. You can fly into Bend but it will be an expensive puddle jumper. Match will finish shooting Tuesday night( well Wed about 2AM). Awards will be at noon in Bend on Wed.

Match hotel reservations should be made through Crimson Trace. Should be info in the website for it. I'm shooting A1 now but I'll try to check tonight.

From here (SFO) it was cheaper to fly to Bend than Portland, so it might be worth checking. Not many flights to chose from though...

  13. The Akdal 10 rnd metal mags are just too much work and not enough capacity. I am testing out

the super reliable Saiga 20 rnd drum conversion for an Akdal and hope to have one going to the

USPSA Nats April 12-14 for you and Scott to shoot.....then onto the Texas State MG April 20-22,

and finally the Colorado State MG April 27-29

    Bill Sahlberg

    Higher Capacity

Did this see the light of day yet?
