  1. I have a 20" SDM barrel in my old match rifle and the accuracy was outstanding, so I bought another one for a new upper I was getting together.

However, apparently they used some shitty barrel extensions that were out of spec leading to some rounds getting stuck with the bullet jammed into the lands of the extension, the ones that managed to get through got scratched up pretty bad.

They're fixing it after I sent them the barrel back but not really what I'd expect for a $410 barrel.

Im going to stick with a company that supports our sport in the future.

  2. Loaded tube + empty chamber = stick

Empty rifle with no mag = stick

At least that's how blueridge has been the past 2 years & TF Dagger match this year

    By =stick you mean ???

    thanks

He means that under those circumstances, a 180 rule, or "dropped" gun would not apply (to those guns in that condition), they are inert objects. Hence "stick"

Been the same thing for unloaded pistols as well.

  3. Gose,

In all fairness what was the title of the person who told you that? I run a medium sized business and I feel confident the owner of that company cares about happy customers and quality because in the long run, that's the only way to make profit. It really bugs me to hear people talk about customer service and profit like the two cannot coexist, when in reality they go hand in hand.

As companies grow they often bloat with bureaucracy and communication/accountability suffers; if you can sense this, the owner likely knows it. While management may not know how to fix it, if you can get high enough in the chain I'll bet they'd listen to your issues with great consideration.

It's a fact of life that people make mistakes; the more volume you do, the more mistakes, so as an executive you spend much of your time doing the best you can to make it right.

    I spoke to the owner...

  4. I spent 20 years working at National semiconductor. I always found it funny to listen to the CEO at the communication meetings going on about how we had to target "zero defects" and eliminate all "quality accidents"...... while our product lines were knowingly shipping defective products all the time. When they blew up in the field it was always: "Ooops.... we'll get you replacements as soon as possible." Quality today is just a buzzword at most companies.

    No kidding.

Then you call the company to let them know, and the reply is "We did what we had to do"... Clearly profit is more important than happy customers and quality.

  5. hate....

Companies saying they're not compromising the quality you expect and then do just that!

I guess it all depends on what you expect, but when the product is on the higher end of the price scale, I do expect quality.

    Guess I was wrong... again.

At least the CS was shitty enough to really convince me to never deal with them again.

  6. The Gold Team's are a better deal initially, but will wear through parts more often and so the advantage price wise is negligible over the long term. That being said, they don't wear through the parts fast enough to not be reliable when needed. You just have to know what to look for in terms of wear.

Not a whole lot though. Arent the Tanfos ~2100 new vs 3k for teh CZ?

Add a couple of extra mags and Henning accessories for a couple of hundred to get the same capacity as you would with the CZ OOB, a scope, mount, trigger parts + trigger job (the trigger is pretty awful OOB).

Then add the fact that the CZ comes with an extra barrel as well and the difference in price is almost negligeble even in the short term.

Being a CZ shooter I initially went the Tanfo route and I have a very nice and well working Gold Team. However, after one season I realized I made a mistake and got myself a Czechmate instead. The Gold Team is ncie to shoot and is more accurate than the CZ, but being used to my Tac Sports I just shoot better with the Czechmate.

  7. Some $25 Adidas Football shoes bought at Walmart (?) in Tulsa at the handgun nats back in -07 since I lost a sole on one of my old shoes during a stage. These shoes have served me perfectly on many different surfaces in many different matches over 6 year and I have never had any issues with losing traction or slipping, so it will be hard to find something as good and cost effective again.

However, these are falling apart so I guess I need to go back to Walmart soon, since I'm not spending $180 on shooting shoes that arent going to be any better than what I have.

  8. I tried shooting groups with my arms supported on my shooting bag to test accuracy of 9mm minor loads I'd been using in matches...and the result was awfully inconsistent. So I bought a rest.

Question - at what distance, using the rest, should be be shooting to best test the accuracy/point of impact of my loads? 25 yards? Multiple distances such as 10 AND 25 yards? Seems to me that the further out I get the more my human error is going to come into play...

    Yes and no.

The absolute error will be bigger the further out you go, but relative to the distance it wont really make that much of a difference. Differences that might be hard to see/measure up close might also be more visible further out. Its also absolutely possible that a load that shoots very tight at 25y opens up considerably more at 50y than other loads that shoot equally well at 25y. The other way is possible, but much less likely.

When I was shooting PPC I tested everything at 25 and 50y to make sure it held up at both distances, for the most part using a Ransom Rest to remove the human factor.

However, with a stable shooting position and a large enough sample size (>=30), the impact of human error gets minimized and should be good enough to validate your groups.

Shooting groups at less than 25y is pretty much a waste of ammo IMHO.

  9. "Lastly but definitely not least 3GN is still relying on 3rd party outlaw matches to send them the data. At this point they are lucky they are getting the correct data to work with. Last year names were spelled wrong so some guys didn't get their points and stuff like that."

Not trying to stir anything up, but it seems to me that 3GN is an ancillary function to matches that are put on without anything from 3GN out side of "send us your results". Since this Am/Semi-Pro/ Pro thing is for real money and real prizes, shouldn't someone from 3GN be present at each listed match to do the scoring for themselves? That way the scores are done to 3GN's stringent standards and there is no confusion as to what points are where and how accurate are the results? It seems awful easy to "blame" the other guys when they themselves aren't doing the due dillagence to assure the utmost quality they demand.

3 Gun nation staff consists of less people than any major match unfortunately.

3GN doesn't force any major match to participate in their series. So when a match says "I do" in the marriage shouldn't they help out their partner?

However, (AFAIK) 3GN is a for profit with paid staff, where as most matches are run with volunteers and reimbursements for expenses at most. Personally I expect more from a for profit org than a volunteer org, but thats me :)

I also have no real idea what the deal is between 3GN and the participating matches, but it would seem like it would be in 3GN's interest to make sure there's a predetermined way for the participating matches to send the scores in a nicely formatted and correct way. If a match really wants to participate in the series, I'm sure they wouldnt mind having someone from their vast number of staff do this extra work.

If they dont want to do the extra work that 3GN requires for participation, dont participate.

    This isnt really rocket science

  10. Just blue ridge, fb3, and the international, i think... Oh and FN

If you want the win it lies in Kentucky. I don't know any pros other than the local Samson boys going to that.

I bailed in favor of the Night Match in N Tx.

Kinda makes you think about how the points are calculated... Is it really fair that the semi-pros should be getting points based on who shows up at a match and have to be tactical (or lucky) about which matches to shoot to amass the most points?

For the 3GN points, wouldnt it be more fair to normalize the scores between the semi-pros only? That way it wouldnt matter who of the pros make it to a certain match or not, the best semi-pro would get 100 3GN points whether he's 2% behind the winner or 20% behind the winner. It wouldnt affect the match or match scoring at all, and normalizing the scores for the 3GN semi-pros wouldnt really take any time at all once you have the formula/script figured out.

  11. Currently in second... We will see if it holds up. Ozark being cancelled kinda screwed my plans

It will be tough for anyone to match those 97 points you picked up at Midwest. You can probably grab a few points at Fallen Brethren by replacing that 76 you had at Superstition too.

Glen Shelby is at 188 with only two matches, so he's definitely within striking distance. A couple of more guys are in the 170s with two matches and there are probably a few more with three matches that will improve before the end of the season.

My guess is that low-mid 260s is going to be required for top 4 when all is said and done :)

  12. Good approximation Bryan!! No buck shot allowed this year though.

The round count is posted on the BRM3G Home Page and the individual counts are also on the freshly updated Stage pages. As always, the stages are subject to change as are the round counts. Let's all hope for dry weather again this year! I saw the Pro-Am pics from after the rainstorm --- brought back bad memories!!

    Andy

200 minimum for pistol? I guess I should be good bringing 300 then, after all it was 201 minimum last year and I only used 297 of the 300 I brought, so I'll have even more margin this year :D

  13. I too was looking around to get a TS built into an open gun, but the very few guys that said that might be able to do it quoted me prices that were the same or higher than a new Czechmate. Didnt really seem to make much sense to do that, so I kept my TS and bought a Czechmate instead.

  14. I recently took delivery on an order of many Nobel Sport rounds the boxes say 1200fps, 1 1/8 oz, 7 1/2 shot. I hope that any shotgun I get can use these reliably. For slugs, I use Fiocchi 7/8 oz, 1300fps.

Any comparison would be welcome. At the moment, I'm thinking Akdal. The main question remaining is whether I buy a race-ready gun straight away or if I get something that evolves over a short period of time.

I use the Fiocchis in my Akdal and they work fine.

For shot I use AA 1145, sicne they seem to be the ones that work best. I also have some 1200s that I use if I need a little more oomph.

I've also tested the AA 1300 fps ones, but both the 1300 and 1200 ones definitely kick more than the 1145. Even if the comp gets better with more gas, its not enough to offset the extra recoil from the hotter loads. It might make the difference smaller, but its still there.
