  1. If you check for Mike seeklander or rob pincus drills on YouTube there should be some videos that deal with this type of scenario. The ones I'm thinking of deal specifically with 1 handed operation of an glock.

Not sure if this would be ok in USPSA though...

    :)
  2. R&R Saiga here.

    Pros'

    1. Reliable

    2. low recoil flat shooting

    3. Ability to quickly change from an entire mag of shot or slugs.

    4. High capacity mags up to 20 rounds.

    Cons

    1. Cost.

    2. Mag fed shot guns are more finicky on shells when it comes to the hulls themselves.

    3. If parts break finding new ones can't be difficult depending on what it is. (12 gauge specific AK parts)

    AKDAL

    Pro's

    1. Cheaper

    2. High capacity mags up to 18 rounds

    3. ability to change from an entire man of shot to slugs.

    Cons

    1. mag avaliablity is difficult especially for over 10 round mags.

    2. more recoil and not able to take a mid barrel comp. My friends AKDAL from Firebird really thumps me compared to my R&R in fact it kicks more than my M2 Benelli or so it seems.

    3. Mag fed shotguns need stiffer smoother hulls for best function.

Used to say not as reliable but at the last match both of my friends AKDALS ran. It seems they are more sensitive to funcitonal problems in the cold.

    XRail

    Pro's

    1. Cheaper if you already own a suitable shotgun.

    2. Not as finicky on ammo.

    Cons.

    1. Reliablity can be lacking on certain guns.

    2. balance sucks with a box of shells hanging by your muzzle.

    3. Not as easy to load more than 1 or 2 slugs at a time if different ammo is needed. If you are on the next tube you can't load any more unless you shoot out the rounds or jack them through the gun.

    4. Once gun has been ran dry you can not load it back up to full capacity on the clock where with the AKDAL or Saiga you can just throw in a new 20 round mag if needed.

I pretty much agree with the all of the above, except maybe on the reliability part. I'd argue that the Firebird Akdals are at least as reliable as any Saigas I've seen out there. Ive also seen quite a few Saigas go down hard and not being able to finish the stage/match, but I still havent seen any Akdal do that. There are more Saigas with a lot more rounds through them out there though, so might just be a matter of time though, but so far the Akdals seem to be holding up well.

  3. Sure, that covers competitors, and it makes sense. You don't want a competitor to be walking around with a loaded firearm while not competing. It's begging for a ND, and ROs should be able to immediately determine the condition of any firearm they see.

However, a concealed firearms, legally carried by a non-competitor, is none of the RO's business. As long as it stays concealed. Once it's visible then there is potential for confusion among competitors, etc. My local club has a rule that if you come on property with a concealed handgun then it needs to stay concealed until you leave.

My club has a barrel to unload your handgun into and a big sign that says that it's a cold range, however, you can still carry the unloaded gun concealed.

I dont really care if youre a cop, competitor, or spectator, if I see a loaded concealed handgun or if you tell me youre carrying a loaded gun, I'm going to ask you to head over there and unload your gun before youre welcome back.

  4. I just ran minor at area 1.. Used my production loads (chrono at 135) due to a weird occurance with my major loads a day before the match.. The minor loads in the comp dont really do anything to make it beneficial.. It may work it a little but its ineffective.. You need a slower powder like n350, 3n37, hs6, autocomp, or silhouette to create gas and use the comp effectively. One thing i noticed with the faster powder was more dot movement.. Probably due to the faster cycle speed and higher initial energy..

Ive been using VV340 and 115gr bullets at around 135 pf and the comp and ports definitely make a difference, though it might not be optimal. Have some 3n37 on the way to see if that will make any noticeable difference

  5. Montana Gold called this week and left a message indicating that the 9mm 115 gr. CMJ bullets which I ordered in January were still not available. They suggested that I consider JHP or FMJ as substitutes. I emailed and asked if the CMJ would be in stock in the next 30 days. They said "No". I changed the order to JHP. The shipping notice was sent 3 hours after I changed the order. It appears that CMJ will continue to be difficult to find.

I still have a backorder for 115gr CMJs from early Jan.. Hoping to get them in time for next season.

  6. I was using Power Pistol for my loads, which was working okay. However, talking with a couple other Gold Custom shooters at my club, and they heartily recommended IMR 7625. So, I ordered a few pounds a while back, and it just arrived on Friday. So I will be starting load development with it soon.....as soon as I find some primers!

7625 seems a bit fast, no?

I've been using VV340 in mine and though the load is extremely accurate, I'm going to try something slower like 3n37 to get the comp a little more gas to work with.

  7. Yeah, I'm good now... It's +/- 15yds from what I'm seeing in actual testing.

JBM's is slightly better, since it accounts for the BC changing with velocity, whereas the Swarovski one only uses one BC for all velocities.

Doesnt really matter much until you get pretty far out though.

  8. Yes.

Might get an argument from some folks asking whether you are testing shooting ability or ability to pull yourself with a rope.

Chair and zipline would have to be pretty stable for safety reasons.

But is it really that different from testing the ability to run fast, like some other stages do.

  9. The new Meopta K-Dot is 1-6x an i ordered one ,it should come within the next 14 days and if it is as good as the 1-4 x it will be a great scope for half the price of the Swarovski.

How much u paid for it? In Finland Swaro is about 1900e and first indications of kdot2 price are between 1200 and 1400.

The reticle choices in the R2 dont look too exciting though.

  10. Ccoker - Are you talking about the Trijicon 1-6 VCOG?

    http://www.trijicon.com/na_en/community/whats_new_item.php?whats_newID=news_122

Expensive, heavy, MOA turrets, integral scope mount, AA battery, mediocre values for exit pupil or FOV, less than exiting reticle choices, dot brightness(?)

Considering how long Trijicon took to get this out, I was expecting more from them.

Looked through it at the NRA show yesterday. I was very disappointed in it.

In the glass, illumination or just in general?

  11. Like I stated somewhere else, expensive, heavy, MOA turrets, integral scope mount, AA battery, mediocre values for exit pupil or FOV, less than exiting reticle choices, dot brightness(?)

Considering how long Trijicon took to get this out, I was expecting more from them.

  12. I've been running an 18" JP barrel for years. A few years back, I got one of their 16" middy as a backup upper. I shot both side by side with all things equal except for the barrel. The 18" was noticeably softer enough for me to sell the backup upper. Many years ago, I tried the a 14.5" carbine gas system with a BC comp at a match. My doubles were a lot slower because it was bouncing a lot. I'll never do that again.

Heh, did exactly the same thing. Even experimented with an aluminum carrier, but still couldnt get it to be as smooth as my 18 and ended up selling it.

You can definitely rock with a 14.5" barrel, but everything else equal, the same person will most likely rock more with 18".

Will it matter a lot? Probably not, but why would you want to give up any points because of equipment?

I can understand people shooting a 14.5" because that's what they have and dont want to buy another upper/gun, but if youre getting something new, make it an 18 or 20.

  13. Im using VV140, which meters similar to Varget (+-0.2gr), for my 69gr loads. Even with that variance, its more consistent over the chrono than loads with H335 that meters like water.

So, I dont worry about it :)

  14. Why do most of the 3Gun Pros or other shooters don't shoot USPSA's Multi-Gun Nationals? I expected a huge turnout for all divisions since 3Gun has exploded on the scene. I assume for the Pros scheduling conflicts with 3Gun Nation matches.

I counted at least 14 of the top 30 3GN Pro shooters at the MG Nationals. BTW, this years match was full with a waiting list.

    Doug

Tarheel was that same weekend, which I know a few top guys went to.

And I know that some guys shot 3 matches in the 3-4 weeks before the Nationals. With all the matches on the calendar now, not even the Pros can make it to all of them.
