  1. A group of us from the Kansas City area are coming down. We heard it will be a great match. (Just hope my entry gets there in time). Chris BTW, any chain motels or places to stay that you can recommend? Prefer close to range but clean is the most important. Thanks. No suggestions?
  2. If you use shok buffs (I dont' running 13# springs in 40 & 45) then get the hard ones. If you use the soft ones they will start to break apart after a few hundred rounds and jam your gun. It happened to me so I don't run them at all. Besides I like the feel of the gun better without them. Chris
  3. It is real. Every one in awhile I get one in that is painful (like a sharp sting to tip of the finger.) When the trigger comes back the spring is snapping the trigger safety into the tip of the finger will some force and it can hurt too. I test fire guns about every day, so I don't have sissy hands either. It takes a bit of rounding here and there and reducing the power of some springs so I'm afraid I can't post a "How to" reduce the slap, because you can mess things up if not done right and we all know how easy it is to get parts from SA. Ahh, I didn't know the trigger safety could pop back. That would explain why people keep mentioning the sore finger. Just another reason to send it to someone who knows what they are doing like you. Chris
  4. I assume you have posted on the XD forum? http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/ If so, and your technique is good, and you are actually getting real "trigger slap" then I would suggest sending it back to SA or to one of the reputable gunsmiths who do trigger jobs on XDs. I know you don't want to hear this but I know how the XD trigger works and frankly I don't see how real "trigger slap" is even possible with that mechanism. Chris XD9 ETA: For the record, trigger slap means that the trigger is forcefully reset, or moves forward, against the pressure of you finger. Meaning that while you do not release pressure on your trigger finger to allow the trigger to reset but the trigger moves against the pressure of your finger. If you have actual trigger slap then you can feel it when dry firing. Start with gun unloaded, pull the trigger all the way back and hold it. Then cycle the slide completely and at some point either during the back motion of the slide or the forward motion you would feel the trigger jump under your finger. This is real trigger slap. Anything else is the trigger guard or something else contacting your finger during recoil.
  5. That's Brian Cook lying on the bed with his girlfriend on stage 3. He and Russell Batt were on my squad. A couple of good production shooters. Chris
  6. I'm running 5.0 gr of Hodgdon HP-38 at 1.18 OAL with 185 gr Precision bullets. This makes 170 pf out of my stock 5" STI Edge bull barrel. I tried Titegroup but the HP-38 was less smokey. I haven't tried N320 yet just because of cost. I would like to try plain Clays but haven't gotten that brave yet. I know Henning says he uses plain Clays loaded to I believe 10mm lengths. The VV burn rate chart shows HP-38 at about the same burn rate as N310 and faster than N320. I like the recoil feel that the HP-38 gives. http://www.vihtavuori-lapua.com/chartVihta.asp Chris
  7. So you are the one who beat me... congrats man, I know I shot my best, so you must have done great! Thanks. If I remember right we were pretty close so congrats to you too. Chris BigLucky, I want another run at all of the stages but especially that damn Spider Monkey stage. The only thing that saved my horrible run on that was a good run on the teeter totter which I think was Walker & Texas Ranger. Chris
  8. Finally woke up from the late arrival home last night. Long drive from DT back to Kansas City. This was a great match. Seemed deceptively easy looking at the stages on Thursday when I went to check out the range. Also, that damn red dust played hell for most of my squad. There were jams all over the place. Luckily my gun ran as long as I cleaned the mags every time they touched anything at all. Let me get top C Limited but not by much. Kudos to the match organizers. It was a great match that was worth the long drive. Chris
  9. Thanks, I sent him an email just asking if he could let us know what the conditions are later in the week. Yahoo weather says there are supposed to be storms in the area all week. PaperKiller may be right about the 20 pound mud boots. Good thing I'm used to carrying a bunch of extra weight. Chris
  10. That's a good question. I hadn't thought about that. I think I will email the Double Tap folks and ask them to give us a weather update this week before we all leave. They have the thread about the match already going in the Pistol Match Info area. Chris
  11. I'm hoping the forecast is dead wrong. It seems they usually are. I'll look at getting the fold up poncho to keep in my range bag. And, sounds like a good idea about taking a garbage bag to put my range bag in. BTW, what exactly are "Frog Togs"? Chris
  12. According to Yahoo Weather it's supposed to be 71 degrees and scattered thunder storms for Double Tap. What do you folks recommend to wear or have on hand for during the match and for actually shooting as far as rain gear? I haven't shot during the rain yet. I've shot during snow flurries, light freezing rain and sleet but not plain ole soak ya to the bone rain. Chris
  13. It would be interesting to see your grip from the bottom. It looks like your weak hand a too far forward. I can't be sure. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but, the heels of your hands should contact each other at the back of the grip. Chris
  14. Sweaty is one of the problems I had. I strongly suggest the Pro Grip. You will not believe the improvement. Also, it looks like you are shooting a 1911. I got some really cheap wood grips from CDNN that had no finish on them whatsoever. The bare wood has worked the best for me on a plain 1911 than rubber or any other type of grips. Chris
  15. You probably need to strengthen your weak hand. You should be able to grip the gun hard enough that the checkering in the grip really digs in. This while not shaking. Get a bag of cheap tennis balls from your local sports supply store. Keep them everywhere you would be sitting for awhile. Like at your desk, in your car, etc. Squeeze them all the time. Be sure to squeeze with all your fingers including your ring and pinky fingers. For me, my shaking doesn't come from my grip but it comes from tension in my chest and shoulders. If I relax those areas then the shaking goes away even while gripping like crazy. Also try some Pro Grip: http://shootersconnection.com/store/index....5e8381c5a28a43c Put it on the inside of your weak hand and the outside of your strong hand. It isn't sticky it just gives you some friction between the two surfaces. I don't put it on the inside of my strong hand because it prevents me from adjusting my grip on the draw. Chris
  16. I've coated two of my single stacks with Norrell's. (My STI Edge is going to get it soon). http://www.molyresin.com/molyresin_about.asp It's fairly tough for an oven cured coating. The great thing is that if I do get a scratch I can clean it, spray it and rebake it. Looks as good as new. And I haven't had to do that yet. My SA Operator I shoot in L10 has had about 5k rounds through it along with a ton of dry fire draws and mag changes since I coated it the middle of last summer. The only thing that could use a recoat is the inside of the magwell. Chris
  17. Joe's holiday stages are a hoot. I and the others really liked the Thanksgiving themed stages this past friday. Though I like the extra motions and stuff. I must confess I have set one up where the shooter had to carry a large stuffed Piglet character with them and get it put into a barrel 2/3 of the way through the course. I guess I could have just required that the course be shot strong hand only but that wouldn't have been any fun. Chris
  18. I don't know for sure about the CZ Champion. I think it is made using a standard size CZ frame. You could check with Matt Mink, he would know for sure. Chris
  19. Not anymore. All the new Witness models are made off the widebody 38 Super/45ACP frame. They are wider than the standard CZ frame. I don't know if a CZ IPSC widebody mag will fit but the Witness factory mags are cheaper than the CZ widebody IPSC mags anyway. Chris
  20. I'm surprised you haven't had a failure to extract as well. However, if your extracted case is contacting the front of the next round in the magazine then the extracted case is hanging lower than it should. When held properly the extracted case should be too high on the breach face to come in contact with the next round. You can check this or not. It is up to you. Chris
  21. What is the extractor tension set at? With the slide off take a spent casing and slide it under the extractor. Do the same with a loaded round (being VERY carfeful). Does the extractor hold the case and loaded round well? Do they flop around loose? The reason I ask is that the extracted case is obviously slipping down lower on extraction than it should. Otherwise the spent case would never be able to catch on the next round in the magazine. My bet is that the extractor needs to be tuned to hold the extracted case better. Chris
  22. Good to hear that you had fun. It's not as intimidating as it looks is it? Good luck and keep at it. Chris
  23. You should definitely try it. You will like it I can tell from your post. I was doing the same thing you are now and finally went out last April and started shooting with the local groups. It is as addictive as anything I've ever tried. Advice time: Go out and watch but take your stuff with you just in case the local club you go to is ready to run you through the basic safety course that day/night. Shoot what you own already. Whether it's the Kahr or the revolver. There is a division for either. Be safe but have fun and enjoy yourself. You will likely make mistakes in the beginning (and for some time after ) as everyone does. Use those instances for what they are, learning opportunities. Chris
  24. Can you use the magwell with out the new grips? shane The mag well actually fits into the space in the frame where the grips go. So you would have to use shortened grips. I guess you don't necessarily have to use his shortened grips but you would have to use shortened ones. Chris
  25. I have the Angus mag well and grips for my 75B. They are fantastic. If you are shooting a CZ in Limited, L10 or Open you should definitely get his stuff. It's great. Chris
