  1. This was a new barrel, the R.O. is very good, he watched it go through the barrel and the holes were not in it before this shooter shot the stage.

    .

I always get a kick out of RO's who can watch a gun and the bullet at the same time. While it is possible at certain angles , under certain circumstances, its the guy with the scoresheet who should be on that assignment

Standard practice for an experienced RO.

  2. We had a guy shoot through a barrel, in the WSB the barrels were hard cover, the target had a full diameter hit.

The R.O. said it was a miss, he saw it go through the barrel and saw the barrel jump.

    He was over ruled.

I think the R.O. was correct, I can also see why he was over ruled, because if it went further up, he would have been over ruled,,even though it clearly went through the barrel.

If it goes THROUGH the barrel (not skipping off the barrel) and the barrels were declared hardcover, and there were no holes in the barrel--it is a MIKE. I bullet cannot pass through hardcover, does not matter what kind of hole in the target it made.

  3. In previous threads, I was for the 15 limit in Production. After shooting Production exclusively for the last four months, 10 rounds is challenging. It's not just about fast mag changes, it's also stage break down.

If you allow more than 10 rounds in CO, it will become "who can run the fastest through a COF".

I don't like the weight limit. Really can't see any arms race developing if the same gun rules applied as in Production. (Add 1.5 oz limit and be done with it)

The mag length size of >= 141.25MM is odd to say the least. Why 141.25 when you can only load to 10?

Having said that, let's just quick griping and asking for more. Give the Dvision a chance as is.

The one thing I AGREE with....If you declare CO, then you must use a CO gun. You can't jump in the Division with a G34 with iron sites. Why?

You might be a M class and you would skew the results. If you want to shoot iron--stay in Production.

  4. Easy question, what is the longest you have loaded a .40 Pro?

    Not so easy.

    Depends on the bullet. :surprise:

You might find a bullet that can be loaded to 1.18", and another that

can be loaded to only 1.13" (depends on shape of the bullet).

So, not all 180's are the same, e.g.

And, of course, it all comes down to YOUR .40 Pro.

That's why somebody much smarter than I am, invented

    The Plunk Test.

    Excellent post and correct info.

  5. After using my Dillon chamber check for years.....40 cal....I have discovered that it is about .005 larger than the chamber of my 40 cal Glock. Without going into all the numbers, while changing some dies around I hit the sweet spot where the finished cartridges passed the chamber check gage with ease but would not fully seat in the barrel. So every last one was chamber checked in the gage and then, checked in the barrel during a USPSA match. so I had about 40% that would not let the slide fully seat.

I get it now and am in the process of measuring all my case gages to see if they meet saami specs or are slightly off one way or another. It will be interesting to see what the variations are between each 40 cal barrel and each 9mm barrel and each 45 barrel. When I get done I will post a list of the chamber sizes and the case gage sizes. I have not figured out how to measure them yet. When using the inside jaws of the calipers they do not reach all the way down to where the crimp would be.

    Thanks. Randall

While all the suggestions below will work and cost $$$. The probable cause is the ogive on the bullet. The OAL will pass the case gauge, but the bullet hangs in the chamber. Shorten the bullet a touch until all chamber. I use a case gauge for testing casing size and crimp, but always use the barrel for OAL (and the mags play into that also.)

  6. Well it happened to me. After 14-15K rounds of .40 S&W my 5" Limited STI slide cracked. And since it cracked through lightening cuts made by the gunsmith the warranty department at STI said it was not covered. That I did not expect since the slide is 11.25 ounces. That's above the 10.5 minimum STI allows.

My gunsmith says he would be able to get them to cover it. I had no idea there are two types of warranties from STI. Anyone have this problem?

Where did you find that information? The 10.5 minimun.

    Thanks

  7. I think the way we do it in the Eastern CO section, as Pat described, is the most equitable way to do it.

MD's awarding slots to their buddies or whoever they feel like seems a little sketchy to me.

Nobody said anything about "awarding slots to their buddies" Most MDs I know would take offense to that remark.

  8. That looks really nice, he did a great job fitting everything.

Ben Hoffman really does good work. Literally 5 minutes down the street from me too. Always nice to have that luxury in a true emergency.

Doesnt he do Bianchi guns? I have heard good things about him.

    Yes he does.

  9. Production, Limited, SS, and Open are established Divisions. Revolver and L-10, expecially L-10 will eventially die. (IMO). Leave Production alone. In 100 years we may be shooting Lazer guns and bullets will reside under glass.

I think CO will grow and become a very popular division. I don't agree with the 35OZ restriction, but at least it is a start.

  10. thanks for the help but I'm up in NY so that makes every thing a lot harder for me. I'm going to be using 124 gr hp, spoke with a few guys and they recommend the silhouette, also read good things about the cfe... think i'm going to be testing little of both....

Listen to them..... Silhouette and 124s is great for 9 major. I always use SRP. CCI is what I use now. Little cheaper than Win and seems to available all the time.

  11. Congrats!!!!

You should also look at the CZ Tactical Sports in 40. CZ Custom has magazine extensions to get to the same round count as the 2011s. The CZ with upgrades and mags will be a lot less expensive with out all the headaches associated with tuning mags. That's more money you can spend buying ammo and getting gooder. Ultimately it comes down to what feels best in your hand. Everything else is fluff.

Excellent gun. I would stay with Production if your not reloading. 40 store bought ammo is a bit pricey.

  12. We have not seen the official provisional rules yet, but if the weight restriction is as mentioned--- it sucks! How does a Glock 34 G4 with a RMR qualify as CO any more than Custom Shadow? How many people carry a Glock 34 as a CCW gun!

CO should be any production gun with the additional allowable weight of the heaviest slide mounted optic in production for the public.

  13. Testing loads for a new Cameron's 9-Major gun. This round was 3N37. 124gr Montana Gold Hollow Point, Federal Match Primer, mixed once fired brass.

    7.1gr 10 round average PF 155.7

    7.6gr 10 round average PF 168.7

    8.0gr 10 round average PF 171.8

    No signs of over pressure.

3n37 for some reason will REALLY heat your barrel. It will be a flame thrower also.

  14. Hi all, just about to start reloading for the first time and looking to purchase a chrono. Looking through past threads it looks like the Pro Chrono Digital is one of the most popular ones so I'll probably go with that one, or are there any others I should consider? Anyone try the Caldwell one? I like how it comes with a cable to connect to your phone.

I don't always have access to my own bay to use the chrono so will likely need to use it on the main range some of the time where I can't keep going downrange to check the chrono. If I set it at 10-15 feet will I be able to easily read the Pro Chrono's display in bright sunlight? (This is why I like that cable feature on the Caldwell)

Also, I've been reading that the chrono might not work properly in direct sunlight and some were saying they only use theirs on cloudy days; well if that's the case here in the Valley of the Sun I wouldn't have many opportunities to use my chrono :). Just how much does direct sunlight affect the chrono?

    Thanks

It is not so much "bright" sunlight, but the position of the sun. If you go late in the afternoon, I find I get erratic readings. When the sun is straight up or cloudy, your good.
