    GM/M

I made GM by only watching YouTube and Instagram video and then diagnosing my own shooting. Never took a class until I was 3 years into being a GM.
  2. I try to Live fire train 2-3 times a month and dryfire 3-4 times a week during the shooting season.
  3. I compete and carry the same two Glock 17 Gen 5's with SRO's.
  4. I would highly recommend the Gen 5 Glock 17 with you favorite aftermarket trigger in it.
  5. In the beginning make it as fun as possible! Steel targets give instant gratification which is nice and shooting cool guns that they play in video games are great starts. Don't try and teach too much stuff in the beginning until they get hooked and want to get better on their own. Also, don't force than to shoot more than they want, once they are tired or want to stop, pack it up for the day and come back when they want to. Once they get the bug and want to start getting better, introduce a few things at a time and start challenging them to practice dryfiring as well.
  6. Sounds like the firing pin spring was too under powered or it wasn't installed correctly.
  7. Yep I had a few do this to me and just took a knife and cut of some of the corner on the follower and never had the issue again.
  8. That might be true. But there isn't that much difference in the two divisions. I think they will both be fighting for the same people to shoot them and not bring in the thousands more people like they thought it would.
  9. My reasoning is, if I can grip the pistol well with just my strong hand then if I add my support hand my grip should be that much better. My train of logic is always practice things way harder than you'll ever have to face so you are never worried. An example would be practicing shooting at 50 yards, so when you have to shoot 35 yards in a match it is no problem for you. If you shoot one handed so well than it should be so much better when you use to hand effectively. I also use it as a metric for me to make sure I am gripping the pistol adequately. I try to grip the pistol the same with my strong hand as if I were shooting just strong hand or two handed. Not finding the dot on presentation with single handed shooting, I believe is due to two reasons: Inconsistent grip placement with your hands and lack of dryfire repetitions. I also believe that the cant on the gun when shooting single handed is not a bad thing. If you present the gun and it has a slight cant to it, then cool if its straight vertical than also cool. Which ever way is natural to you. The thought that you are fighting recoil going one way or the other is a moot point, I believe if you don't even have some semblance of recoil control in the first place with only one hand.
  10. I would say around 15%-25% of your effort should be put into shooting Strong hand only and weak hand only. I firmly believe that being able to shoot one handed helps you shoot with two better.
  11. I don't believe that USPSA and IPSC are as far apart as you allude them to being. What about IPSC is bad and how do they differ from USPSA?
  12. Very interesting to look at scores of major matches and seeing the winning of limited optics barely being in the top 5 if they were moved to CO, but the classifier hit factors are higher in LO than CO? Is all the heat just staying in CO? or are LO gun not as fast as every one thought they were gonna be?
  13. You are correct, sir. In what way has IPSC lost it's way?
  14. My motivation for changing the rules is for them to go back to how they used to be. Over the years things like: Extra modifications, extra weight, more mag capacity, lights, belt placement, magnets, and other stuff were all added randomly in my view. Additionally, USPSA is the daughter organization of IPSC so I believe the rules should be as close to similar as possible so it is an easy transition for those competitors who chose to compete in both. Lastly, yes CO is the most popular division by far which mean we should be very very carful to change rules around willy nilly. That why I believe making the rules go back to how the division was started would be a good starting point.
