  1. I took the grips off my para and put skateboard tape around them. It looks realy nice, but I have a question. A shooter at my club told me that having just skateboard tape could damage my hand if I were to have a KB. I don't see what the thin plastic of the grips is going to do much better than skateboard tape, but what do I know? Do I need to do this differently, or am I safe?
  2. INTJ here as well. Seems we have a board full of masterminds. Now to go about our plans for world domination...
  3. I am in the process of designing a stage and thought it would be fun to have plates that spell out IPSC made in 10" high, 3" wide steel for one of my side matches. Is this legal? Or does is fall under a cruel and unusual statute in the rules? Thanks!
  4. I have been to Crestveiw(in fact bought ammo at that Wal-Mart) and the sad part is that i belive every word of the story!
  5. Okay, I was just in my local gun store to ask about getting one ordered. THe price is $1000. Is that resonable? How many mags does it come with?
  6. Thanks for all the great responses! I think I will go with the CZ TS. I happen to like a heavier gun and am gifted with large hands(large enough that I put houges on my 14.45 to fill out the grip). Now were can I find these taylor basepads? I did a serch on google but came up with Glock stuff. Also, where can I find out more about some of the work that these smiths are doing on the TS? Someone mentioned the Witness line. Are they every bit as good or should I stick with the TS? Thanks again!
  7. I love my CZs, and I am in the market to upgrade my limited gun from an older P14.45 Limited. The thing is that no one around carries CZs so I can't realy even look one over before buying it. The other thing I am wondering is how does the CZ stack up against S_Is? I am talking in terms of mag capacity, muzzle flip, felt recoil, availability of mag extensions, etc... For that matter how does it stack up if I were to get a new P16.40 Limited, build my own from Caspian or upgrade my Glock 35. If you were to do it, how would you rate my options from best to worst. I see all the nice guns all tricked out that you guys have as avatars and I would like to have my own neat little blaster so your advice and experience is appreciated.
  8. I have shoot one in .45. I was unimpressed.
  9. I can see it now. In the stage descriptions, you start with gun in hand. At the sound of the buzzer, drop the gun and put hands in the surrender position. I'm sorry, I realy can't help myself! But seriously, what is IPSC like in other countries?
  10. I should mention that almost all the classifiers that the club shoots are 3 targets, 2 shots each, reload and another 2 shots each.
  11. Right now about all we would can to do to our G35s is get into reloading, trigger job, magwell, mag estensions, better sights and some grip tape. That is about it for limited. Are you planning on getting a race holster? If you do I'd like to try it out. After that it would be a clean slate for an open gun.
  12. Good to see you discovered the place gop. I also toyed with the idea. If I do, I will probly go with a G17. www.glockmeister.com www.topglock.com www.dawsonprecision.com Those links ought to get the drooling started. Does anyone know if you can convert a G35 to 9mm? If so you could hang a comp on the end and have porting with a semi bull barrel.
  13. I am going to build a .40 top-end for my 14.45 Limited. I was wondering about the durability and service life of their slides.
  14. On my classifiers, I am consistantly shooting in the low 11 seconds and getting 90-95% A's. Now that I have a good rig and my sights on tight, I will start practicing reloads, dry fire and draws at home. However, my ammo buget is limited as is my free time. A hundred rounds every other week is about the best I can do right now. What drills can I do to speed up my splits? A good cheap timer might be in the cards if someone can suggest one. Oh, and I have not seen my sights lift, nor can I recall sight pictures. I have a ghost of an image of some shots in my head, but those could be fabrications of my mind trying to fill the casym where those things ought to be.
  15. It is a great gun for L-10. The weight realy soaks up the recoil. If you are reloading or can get ammo at power factor, it will kick even less. Get a metal guidrod and some trigger work and you would be ready to roll.
  16. In NY it is illegal for you to touch a handgun if you do not have a NY resident gun permit. Looks like you will have to leave 'em at home. That realy sucks. I get antsy if I don't see/touch my babies every couple of days.
  17. You are right, I may be looking for a quick fix. Money would probly be better spent in a dillon than a new gun. On another note, I have Brian's book, but for me I think a prequil might be in order. Something like Practical Shooting:Remidial Basics; or Practical Shooting For the unZen Dummy.
  18. As far as tuning the para, it has a real nice trigger(it slam fired after about a month of having it and the dealer sent it to a real good local smith who did a beautiful trigger job at no cost to me) but I have been thinking about a .40 top end. It just dosen't make sense to handicap myself recoil and capacity wise with the .45. As far as relibility, the sights have been the biggest pain in my butt. My next match is in a week and I think I have the bugs worked out so I will have to see.
  19. I am getting in to the cycle of spending money on guns I don't need or guns that are redundant. I have a G35(good limited gun), Para 14.45 Limited(good limited gun), CZ-97(rarely shoot), CZ-75(great production gun), SA XD-40 Tactical(that's about all I have to say for it). I don't think I will ever sell any of them, but I am realy not progressing in limited with the Para. That got me thinking about an S_I. That got me thinking about Open. But what I realy want to know is how much of performance is based on equipment? I am sure that most of you could clean my clock with a HighPoint. Do I realy need all the fancy stuff or could I shoot the best of my ability with a used para or Glock? If any of what I said made any sense, I would appreciate your input.
  20. The title pretty much says it all. A little background. She is 4'6", 120 lbs soaking wet. She has fired a Glock 35(to big, didn't like recoil), CZ-75(a hair to big, didn't mind recoil), and a Browning Hi Power(right size, didn't mind recoil). I am trying to figure out if a 1911 in .40 would be just as snappy as the Glock, so the opinion of anyone who can speak to both would be appreciated. Otherwise, if you could recommend something the size of the BHP or smaller that is production legal, I would appreciate it. Budget is $700-$800 on the high end, but less is better.
  21. At my local matches, we have people who are not shooting pick up brass while the targets are being scored and taped. I always thought that was SOP.
  22. Had a fobus for my CZ-75. I will never buy another. It broke the night before my first match while I was practicing. I went to gander mt. and bought a cheap nylon holster that has served me well. Now I want a Bladetech DOH.
  23. Yeah, ment to say with comp. I just edited it. What springs in what weight would I most likely need to run? I realize that different guns need different things, but a ball park figure would be a nice place to start.
  24. I bought a G35 and I realy like it. I can't belive I waited so long to pick one up. I have been toying with shooting Open, but the funds just aren't there. So I am looking at building my own race gun. I know that some of the work is going to have to be shopped out, but I have a lot of pateience and mechanical apptitude. So here is what I am thinking so far: Glock 17 KKM barrel with comp Brass magwell Captive tungsten guiderod C-More on a sjc mount 3.5# connector. Let me know what you think. The only areas that concern me are frame to slide fitting and fitting the new barrel. If it was explained ot me I could probly do it. The other concern is will the gun hold up to 9mm major?
  25. I noticed it in slow fire while I was shooting groups. When I am at IPSC or at the range practicing rapid fire, I bring the gun back down. I was just trying to feel and see what the gun did when it fired.
