  1. 8 pounds?! Damn that's almost milspec territory. I got my PCC down to 6lb 7 oz with an Iron City rail, Venom DD comp, and MFT stock. The Venom titanium (their plain black comp is just as light it feels - I have two) comp weighs 1.2 oz versus the JP coming in 4.5 oz and the Venom is probably an inch or so shorter so it's nice on a 16" barrel with less OAL and less weight so far out. I'd attach pics but cant go over 0.5 mb ? could always get a file share though.
  2. Can’t go wrong with a sub $80 brake/comp, especially when they keep having sales!
  3. You could always get a thread adapter from KAK they have a 5/8x24 to 1/2x36 and such. I found them on eBay earlier today
  4. I'm glad I just found this post because I was going to post something similar! So I have two uppers; one is a JP 16" stainless barrel with a JP 3-port comp (http://www.makereadyproshop.com/jp-9mm-3-port-compensator/) and the other is a Warsport 14.5" black barrel with a Venom Defense and Design 9mm compensator (https://www.venomdd.com/products/ar9-9mm-compensators) I brought both uppers to the range this weekend using both factory 115gr Winchester ammo and my reloads which are 147gr with 3.2g of Titegroup (used in my CO G34 as well). Now, of course both loads will produce various amounts of gas in each barrel based on the length. I absolutely noticed the Venom comp working better than the JP comp with both the factory ammo and reloads. The venom had less muzzle rise than the JP because of the port designs, the top 4 cuts in the Venom definitely help keep the muzzle from climbing and it's hard not to see the gas shoot straight up from them; that's another reason so many people recommend the MBX which I'd love to try but they don't make a stainless version for 1/2x36. A friend of mine has the MBX on his 7.5" SBR and it seems to work well. The JP comp is about 3" long and fairly heavy compared to the Venom comp and I'm sure that weight plays a factor in keeping the barrel down however it seems to just vent gas to the sides which I would imagine is more beneficial on higher powered rifles; JP basically took their 5.56 and .308 3port comps and made it work for a 9mm in my opinion just based on looks although the ports are opened slightly more toward the top. Basically, I like the Venom more than my $100 JP comp and ordered a second to go on my stainless 16" JP barrel and plan to update the post when I install it and get rounds down range. Another reason I want to ditch the JP comp is because it's 3" long and being on a 16" barrel it makes it a little more challenger to maneuver through some stages so I figure shaving an inch off with a different comp is better than another $200+ on a shorter barrel (yet I built a second upper...) PWS, Patriot Defense, and SJC are three other PCC comp makers that I'd be interested in checking out. I hope some of this experience helps!
  5. I used an MBX Mini on a 31rd ETS for about a month or so. The first time I installed the extension and loaded up a mag, it got bound up and I couldn't load more than 30 and some rounds fell out of the top so I unloaded the whole thing and tried again, this time I got a full magazine with no issues. I bravely ran the mag without ever trying it at a match the following the day and had ZERO issues. I continued to use just this mag for matches (again, one mag, kinda brave but I had my G34 mags w/TTIs as backup) and no issues up until about a month ago. One one stage, I had an issue closing the bolt while making ready and dropped the mag which of course landed top down into some dirt; the RO asked if I wanted to take a second to clean out and adjust but I was stubborn and just tapped some dirt out and decided to run the course...and that was my mistake, the mag loaded two rounds before it jammed and I said F it and dropped it out for a reload with a more reliable magazine to finish the stage. I unloaded the mag afterward and took the basepad off and then cleaned it as much as I could then reassembled and tried to load the full 45 rounds but the rounds weren't keeping their usual slight tilt and again would bind and the upper 5 rounds would just rattle around. Another shooter in my squad had an unmodified ETS 31rd mag and let me use it for the next stage and I had zero issues. I e-mailed ETS about it and they said their new generation of magazines are oiled internally to help the follower keep the right path and not tilt and cause any issues. Since then, I have installed my MBX mini on a factory Glock big stick and have had no issues with that, I reverted my ETS mag back to the factory original set up and ordered a second ETS as my backups back up and haven't had any problems with them. As you saw online, every review is different and honestly they're cheap enough to just take the chance and give them a shot. I've experienced flawless operation and total unreliability all within the course of two months from the same mag yet still bought another when I got my Glock 33 (come on, the ETS are only $18!). They definitely get the job done if you can't find legit Glock big sticks but just be prepared for the occasional hiccup that may occur, especially on a stage.
