Well the results are in and as suspected, I did horribly. I had 34 points down in total and 1 penalty, the bulk of which were accumulated on stage 4. That kind of screw up tends to really put a dent in the results. Looking on the bright side, my raw times were really good. I know where I made my mistakes and know what I need to work on. I've been reading through the new airsoft forum and am starting to get quite intrigued.
  4. BAY MINETTE, Ala. – Authorities in south Alabama say a gas station employee used a cricket bat to chase away a would-be robber who brandished a toy gun. The Baldwin County Sheriff's office says the suspect entered Bee Gee's gas station near Bay Minette Saturday afternoon and tried to use the fake weapon to steal money. Sheriff's Cpl. Mike Gaull tells the Press-Register of Mobile that the employee noticed the gun had an orange tip on the barrel and grabbed the cricket bat. The suspect then ran out of the store without any money. The 22-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with first-degree robbery.

Shot an IDPA match today at Circleville. I've started to design stages and submitted a couple to the match director, who decided to use one for this match. As it turned out I started off in that bay with my stage and was also first to shoot. After having done the new shooter orientation and rushing around to get everything going to try and beat the rain, I was not exactly in my usual mindset. I totally messed up the stage with misses and a lot of dropped points. It also didn't help that I hadn't done any dry fire for a while since I'd been feeling kinda crappy last week. It was a good learning experience and I know I'll do better on my next cold start. Part way through the match it did start pouring down. While everyone else was doing their best to stay dry during the downpour, I continued to stay out and SO as many shooters as possible. I wanted to get myself totally drenched to see how things changed. How my equipment held up, how my clothing felt, how slippery everything got, what the targets looked like with bags and everything else that shooting in the rain brings. I'm hoping to shoot the state match in September and who knows what the weather might bring, so I wanted to get that experience now and have a chance to adjust equipment if necessary. The one thing that kinda stood out was that my 511 vest got really heavy. I don't usually have anything in the pockets except some brass and maybe a pen. But I guess it must be made of cotton because it felt like it weighed about 10lbs when I took it off. So after my disastrous cold start I think I shot the other stages quite well. The rain really didn't bother me at all and I didn't have any equipment problems.
  6. +1 So many able people make lame excuses why they can't turn up and shoot.
  7. A guy walks into a bar carrying an inflatable giraffe, sits down and puts it on the floor by his feet. The barman says, "hey, you ain't leavin' that lyin' there are ya?" The guy says: "What are you talking about? It's a giraffe!"
  8. This is so ridiculous I had to put it in humor "The first “anti-stab” knife is to go on sale in Britain, designed to work as normal in the kitchen but to be ineffective as a weapon. The knife has a rounded edge instead of a point and will snag on clothing and skin to make it more difficult to stab someone." 9. Two highways walk into a bar. A few moments later they watch a thin grey line walk in and sit right next to them. One highway turns to the other and says: "hey, you'd better watch him, he's a cyclepath"
  10. Flex: When I was measuring the powder throws I just kept adding them to the dish and weighing the lot. The numbers in brackets are calculated by subtracting the previous total from the current total, so the total of all 10 charges in the dish was 35.3gr. Is that what you meant? Thanks for the offer on the chrono, that'd be a big help.
  11. Here's a special pun just for today: Why was six afraid of seven? Because seven ate nine!
  12. Thanks for the info guys. I try to be fairly consistent when actually operating the press. I try to get into a rhythm so that I can hear what's going on as well as feel and see. If something doesn't sound right, that's also a signal to stop and investigate. I've found that with so many moving parts, my ears will sometimes pick up problems before I can see them. I'll try experimenting with different speeds to see if the powder drops change. Thanks for the info.
  13. That also remind me of another incident where I chewed out one of my coworkers. When going to lunch she would ask to borrow another coworker's disabled tag so she could get in and out of the store quick during lunch. She really didn't get why I was mad at her, she thought it was perfectly acceptable because the girl who had the tag wasn't using it, since she brought her lunch to the office.
  14. Many years ago I was walking to the movies with some friends and some young guy with his gf in a convertible merc decides to park spanning 2 disabled spots. As his gf steps out to run to the counter to buy tickets, I say out loud "wow, nice parking". A bunch of people turn around to look at me and see what I was commenting on. The guy starts yelling and ranting at me, but I just shake my head and walk on. His gf comes up to me, obviously embarassed and apologises for him and his behavior. This make him madder and he starts yelling even louder drawing more and more attention to himself, while all the passers by just look and laugh at him.
  15. I don't yet have a chrono, perhaps santa will be kind to me this year.

3.5gr, I'm guessing it might fall below if I do that, since there's not a lot of powder in the case. FYI there's some more info here about it: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=88001
  17. ben: I'll throw another 10 charges tonight when I get back home. Storm: I remember it was actually part way through a mag, round 5 or 6, definitely not the last round. I'll recheck the crimp tonight.
  18. Here are the results of tonight's work: Measurements before chambering / after chambering / calculated set back: 1. 1.257 / 1.254 / .003 2. 1.257 / 1.251 / .006 3. 1.259 / 1.257 / .002 4. 1.260 / 1.259 / .001 5. 1.257 / 1.256 / .001 6. 1.255 / 1.253 / .002 7. 1.257 / 1.253 / .004 8. 1.257 / 1.251 / .006 9. 1.257 / 1.257 / 0 10. 1.259 / 1.242 / .017 (Aguila headstamp) 11. 1.257 / 1.256 / .001 12. 1.260 / 1.258 / .002 13. 1.259 / 1.254 / .005 14. 1.259 / 1.257 / .002 15. 1.258 / 1.258 / 0 16. 1.256 / 1.253 / .003 17. 1.257 / 1.252 / .005 18. 1.258 / 1.256 / .002 19. 1.257 / 1.253 / .004 20. 1.259 / 1.258 / .001 21. 1.256 / 1.252 / .004 22. 1.258 / 1.254 / .004 23. 1.257 / 1.256 / .001 24. 1.257 / 1.252 / .005 25. 1.260 / 1.259 / .001 Average setback is .0035, but the .017 is the wildcard, so if I remove that, the average works out to: .0027 Then I dropped 10 measures of powder. I recorded the reading on the scale after each drop. The number in brackets is the calculated drop to make that current total weight from the last drop. 3.6 - (0) 7.0 - (3.4) 10.6 - (3.6) 14.1 - (3.5) 17.7 - (3.6) 21.1 - (3.4) 24.7 - (3.6) 28.2 - (3.5) 31.8 - (3.6) 35.3 - (3.5) edit: spelling
  19. This is how I apply the one shot. I have all my prepared cases in a large cardboard box, spray them, mix/work them around by hand, then spray again and work again. Most of them will then sit for minimum 15 mins before they're put into the case feeder. Most of them will sit for days before being loaded. Oneshot makes a huge difference when sizing, I won't reload without it. I'll try dropping 10 charges and weighing that, great idea. I do spot check the powder dispenser every now and then, perhaps every five hundred rounds or so. I usually throw about 5 or 6 charges and weigh them individually. The most variation I usually see is 0.1gr. I'll also check for setback, thanks. What I'll do is chamber each one from slidelock, to minimize the variation. edit: spelling
  20. Here's the load I'm using, thanks to harmon: 3.5gr clays 230gr rn Montana gold cci primer mixed headstamp brass oal: 1.255 Some loads feel a little different than others. Some have more muzzle flip and flexmoney also commented that some sounded different. The only major variance in the components is the case, since they're all range pickup cases. The only things I'm aware of that have changed recently in the reloading process are using hornady one shot on the cases prior to loading and installing the needle roller bearing on the shell plate. The powder and primers are all from the same batch and unfortunately I don't have access to a chrono. Any ideas on what I can test/look for? thanks
  21. Also to add... another key person in the org has called in sick today.... monday sickness after a holiday... don't buy it.
  22. We have a hugely important update to one of our websites that's being deployed this afternoon. The update is not so big from the user facing side, but there are massive changes to the DB structure and some political/business issues which will enable us to take the company to the next level. This is the most significant update we've ever done on any project in the history of the company. The head of my department emailed this morning and is taking the day off (this in of itself is annoying, because he's always harping on about giving everyone plenty of notice about time off, and yet he always emails on the day he's off). The next person down the ladder is leaving early because she has to go to a tennis match. I'd already made arrangements with my wife so that I'm able to stay late tonight to do a ton of testing and have already been talking to the development crew about various issues. The program manager, who's leaving for the tennis match, is standing around jibber jabbering. I think I'm going to need a beer tonight.
