  1. This is an interesting idea... I keep track of all match performance, and usually it's not the penalties that get me, it's losing focus or other mistakes that trip me up, costing time and points. I've actually won stages with penalties because I was a bit faster than somebody else, but thinking as to how the same speed with no penalty would hit factor out is worth looking at. Will start studying that this week...
  2. Are you removing the front strap checkering before applying the grip tape?
  3. Has anybody had any dealings with Nighthawk Custom? I understand some of Wilson's guys formed it up in Berryville. I wonder if they wanted to get out of his shadow or if there were other reasons. Everything on their products has been positive, and slightly more reasonable in price than a W.C. pistol.
  4. We've seen that too. A few of the less action oriented folks are even ashamed of the practical style shooters. They seem to think we give shooters a bad name because of what we do. Their whole emphasis is on the "humanoid" aspect. What they generally don't realize is that the anti-gunners want to take away bench-rest rifles and sporting clay guns as well as a "hot rod" combat pistol.
  5. Don't forget to look at your guide rod. Some prefer tungsten some plain stainless. It all makes a difference.
  6. Sitting at Hooters, piles of wings, empty beer bottles and smelling like gunpowder while reliving your stage tragedies... The end to a good weekend.
  7. Here's one more suggestion... Bring what you have to ANY club or match, and just ask around. Shooters are more than happy to show off their toys, answering questions and letting you play with and shoot/borrow most anything we have. My first practice session involved me having mags stuffed into every spare pocket, and was told to keep them 'till I got my own. That's how most of these folks are. Welcome.
  8. Man that came out really nice. How does a finish like that stand up? I've tried a can and didn't have good success. Maybe I didn't have it degreased enough, and if so, what did you use...
  9. I've loaded .40's in my 9/super mags accidently and they ran fine. I wouldn't trust it in a match, but they seem to work...
  10. I actually witnessed a Mickey D's manager refuse to give a customer a small drink when he was willing to pay for a large. When he asked her to give him a small cup or only fill the big cup halfway, she replied "I don't have a button on the dispensing machine for that." It's a sad world....
  11. I'm relatively new to the forum, but I'm a teacher so it seemed appropriate...

    What Powder?

I use Unique almost exclusively. With a 180 gr lead for 2011's it takes about 5.0 grains for me to make major with a 1.175 oal. I would guess about 5.4 gr would be close with any jacketed rounds. Work up slow and see what happens. I've had good results with it. Playing with the length for Glock's/CZ's would obviously reduce the powder charge.(maybe around 4.5 grains or so for 1.150 oal.)
  13. I couldn't agree more. If you can make it fun, humorous, silly or even un-PC it seems to be more palatable to the folks who really don't understand what we do. Geared up, planning shots, and acting scary can intimidate others. We won't change the anti-gunners minds, but we can introduce ourselves as fun friendly people and hopefully recruit others. If it takes toilet seats, cupie dolls, or action figures, enjoy yourself and laugh a bit...
  14. Yeah I watch it too, Im off today with a sick little girl to tend to. The original 80's ones are on today on sci-fi channel. The ones where they make it to Earth. I wonder if the new series will get there?
  15. The coolest thing I have ever found was to use a safe backstop and align the gun, either on nothing or on a large steel gong at about 8- 10 yards. Close your eyes and smoothly break the sear until the mag is empty, feel the sensations and open up. Do that a few times, the fear and blinking subsides, and see what you see with your eyes open. It is really "an eye opener." Speed up as possible.
  16. I'm really not sure about that swelling issue. It maybe possible that those mags are out of spec in the external dimensions. It sounds like the easiest thing would be to send them off for tuning to somebody, or buy a few more from somebody else already tuned up and ready to roll. I know that costs a few nickels, but it may be worth it in the long run... Good luck
  17. Then that should be a good place to get one. Will try to call tomorrow...
  18. The gauges are available, I forget who has them, but I've seen them in use. The worst I've heard is to just slightly remove a bit from the bottom of a pad with sandpaper and they fit fine.
  19. STI mags, 4mm pad, totally legal, easy to reload with, and will lock back depending on your slide stop. I could not be happier, you get what you pay for...
  20. Hi there, This is my first post, because I actually feel I have a legitimate reply. Call Beven Grams, period. He built 8 STI .40 mags for me and they are perfect. Granted he is a busy man, but when you do reach him, he will gladly talk you through anything and spend time with you. He supports the sport, builds great products, and helps his clients. Top-notch guy, just give him a call at 949/548-3745. Leave a message, and be patient, he will respond.
