Took mine apart and took the brass plate off from the rear. I’m pretty sure @Lastcat is correct that the brass plate is what secures the elevation adjustment. With it off the elevation spins with very little effort.

The little threaded protrustion in the back center is the elevation adjustment screw. You can see a little nub sticking out of it. That goes through a small hole in the brass plate,  and the bend in the plate adds tension to the elevation screw when the plate is screwed down. As far as I can tell that is the only mechanism for keeping the elevation adjustment secure.

I added a little extra bend to the plate and it did make the elevation adjustment noticeable more stiff, though it still doesn’t have clicks.

Be very careful with the brass plate’s screws as well as the screws for the optic baseplate; they are very soft and very likely to strip if you try to tighten them too much, which is unfortunate because it really limits how much extra bend you can put in the brass plate.

Interesting. Thanks for the post. So far my Elevation has been solid and the windage as well, since the adjustment. Hope you get it to work for ya.

  2. Can't say I built my own. Someday I might get the shortblock, slide, barrel, etc....

But I did upgrade things a bit. Having a Bead Blaster helps. Took this CK Arms Hardcore added a Binary Comp, Everglades Mount, Romeo3 XL, Cheely E2 grip, PT Safety. Took the Thumb Rest and cut the front off (that part that had the 5 holes), then rotated it CCW. I drilled and tapped the GP and attached this to the Everglades mount from the back. Made an extended mag release.

Then used KG GunKote. Satin Black and Black Chrome. The Black Chrome actually looks grey, as in the pic. Gunkote is really easy to do, if you have a blaster. It holds well up to most chemicals, even lacquer thinner. Just air brush the parts and bake at 325* for an hour. It's actually quite durable, harder than paint. I have done this twice now and for a year it really has held up well. Since adding the E2 Grip I decided to Gunkote everything. Then after a year I can do it again if need, or even change colors.

I’m looking for advice on reloading equipment that won’t empty my bank account.

    Where's the info?

    How many rounds a month?

    What's your $$$ limit?

    How many calibers?

Do you own any equipment now?

  4. I had an Aftec for a year, ran great. Spring broke, replaced. 6 months later, the spring case broke (at a Match). Got a EGW 10350. Works great 4 Matches later. Got it bent just right, where the brass ejects horizontal (3 O'clock looking from the top) and 7' away. Done.

Where did you find an Allen wrench that small??

Just had a draw full and got lucky and found just 1.

I shot another Match today, about 98 rounds. Dot is still on the mark. I used the day before a Match, go to the Range and adjust a few clicks. Working great now!

Is this issue related just to the XL? My Romeo3Max have kept zero perfectly.

There is a small set screw that puts tension on the Windage Ajustment Screw. Remove the bottom plate and it's there. I turned mine in a 1/2 turn, worked great. The video posted shows how it's done.

I was lucky enough to get some from PV 2 weeks ago but I haven't seen any since. I have 5 different websites up on my phone and refresh them all day long hoping to see an in stock update. I do see plenty of powder out there, it's the primers that are gone and the bullets with a huge wait.

Still doesn't seem as bad as factory ammo. There is none around me and 9mm is selling on Armslist for 50-60 cents per round.

You da man. I have 3 websites I check often and daily. 50-60 a round? Gougers...argh!

As expected, this deteriorated into "you're letting shooters get away with safety violations" instead of "how certain can you be that a safety violation has occurred when you suspect it did..."

As always. zzt was just trying to bring up certain scenarios that we might run into and how would "you" handle them. Let's not toss anyone in the firey pits. We are better than that.

I'm in the same boat. Windage clicks are faint as well and I have to adjust it to the right about 6 clicks at 10 yards before a Match. Getting old. Would be nice to get it tightened. I did mark the screw to body with a paint pen. Just shot a 125 round Match last night and nothing moved. But, will get out Friday and test it again to see if it is still on point. Following this topic, see who else has the same issue.

Just found this on the tube. Hope this help.

I was usually going to the Range to check if my dot on my XL was still on the mark before a Match. Had to usually make minor adjustments, maybe 4-6 clicks. The windage adjustment screw really didn't have a solid positive feel. Since finding this post (thanks vgdvc) I was able to follow this video above. So far it has worked great. 3 Matches and 1 practice session, dot is solid and on the mark.

I'm an experienced RO.  I know the rules.  I'm going to ask about gray areas.  I've noticed new ROs DQ people at the drop of a hat.  I've taken a different approach, based on Management saying don't be a dick.

Here is an example scenario:  newish shooter has a problem during the COF and has to clear a jam.  His finger  may or may not be completely outside the trigger guard, but is clearly not near the trigger.  Your call?  New ROs say DQ.  I issue a private warning. If it happens again I will tell the shooter that you finger must be completely outside the trigger guard, and that it is a DQ offense.  Last match this happened twice to the same shooter.  I counselled him and he swore it would never happen again.  It didn't.  His finger was so far outside of the trigger guard you could have seen it from space.  What say you all?

I agree. It's hard to see everything 100% of the time. Specially finger on or near the trigger while they are running away and changing mags. I RO'ed a friend, when he changed mags I could see a bent finger, couldn't tell from my angle if it was inside the trigger guard or not. He didn't take it well when I advised him. I told him one day someone else might see a bent finger as an infraction.

New shooters, be on full alert. Coach them when needed. Take them aside and warn them, their day could be over if they don't ...etc. Warn them during the COF is good. "Finger, finger." But a blatant breaking of the Rules is an automatic DQ. As RO's we need to make sure everyone goes home safe. We can't be perfect. Before anyone starts the first stage, "Anyone here new and here for the first time?"

People who have been at it while, seem to do well. But, I had to DQ a Limited A shooter one day for clearly breaking the 180. Don't be a dick is good, but also let's keep them mindful of rules and watch with full intent so we all go home safe.

Age takes away - short term memory - whatever you want to call mental information...

Ha, have you ever finished a stage and forgot a few targets? I have, a few times. Now on a 32 round stage, for some reason, I always blurt out, "did I get everything"?

Ha! thats what I usually tell myself. My girlfriend observes "you're competitive." I guess she's right.

midatlantic, that's it. Just be competitive and enjoy as much as you can. Like some have said, ask the M's and G's that you know as friends and ask questions. Here in Ore and Wa, some are willing to help and some are people to avoid. 😆

Do the Dawson Ice inserts ever pop out during competition?

It looks like they just snap into the main part of the magwell.  I figure anything that just snaps in can also snap out unexpectedly.  Or are they held in place?

    Thanks.

Nope, never did in my case for 357 Sig Open and G17 Open. There is a very small slot on the side of the insert where you insert a small screw driver to pry it out, when you install a new one. It snaps in.

At 60+ I try to visualize exploding out of position without either passing gas or losing bowel control entirely or just getting dizzy like you do when you stand up fast.

    🤣

    No kidding.

  15. Yep, people buying guns are getting reloads from family and friends. I bought 1,000 Everglades 124 jhp last week, arrived in 3 days. Was lucky to find them in stock. I search the online stores for primers, powder and bullets, often and daily. I've walked into stores to find primers on the shelf. Timing I guess.

Yeah, your shooting speed is good, and you are shooting early coming into positions, but you have some time to gain in leaving earlier. I find it helpful to put leaving the position into my visualization, and as I imagine the sights settling on the last target, I'm also imagining my weight starting to shift and getting ready to push off when the sights lift. One of the fun things about this sport is there are so many little things to always improve on and you can keep getting better for a long long time.

Thanks moto, yea, I need to explode out of position, soon. I used to video my Matches, but quit. Think I'll video all 7 Stages this weekend at Dundee, see where I can gain. Peace.

  17. I'm 64 and have been at it 3 yrs. It's not easy and there is lots to learn. I wish I had started earlier. I think it's best to video your stages, see where you could gain in time. Just 2-3 seconds can gain you in overall finishes. I've had good stages and them dumpster fire stages. There are so many tricks and tips to learn along the way. Take a Training Class if you can. 1 thing I notice for some is that they get to a position with their gun down. If you could get there with the gun up and ready to fire, you can gain in time. Just like Mike B posted about Ryan firing around a wall, just in time to hit a Popper.

I got a video, nothing super spectacular. I see my mistakes (and I am sure you will see many more). Right after target 7, I paused for a bit, I was going to shoot the far target, but remembered I had taken it already. Then at the end, I took 2 shots to the last 2 targets, when I transition over, I noticed I had 2 Charlies, went back and put an Alpha on the final shot 😲. I still have much to learn, most the better Open Shooters are way ahead of where I am at a B. But it's fun, being retired, it's my favorite hobby. Ask too, you could always find a friend that can give ya tips. Hope you do well, get that B Class.

one of the best examples of shooting sooner I have seen is on the stage at 1:30 in this video, he was nice enough to make it low motion, he moves into the third location and breaks a shot on a popper that clears the wall creating the shooting location by about 2"

Yep, Ryan is really good. He has put in the time.

Did you happen to take note if there was any similar fix for elevation?

I'll check, still have my plate off. But my Elev. Adj. is fine. I think that brass plate is what could hold the Elev. Adj. screw down. My 2 small phillips head screw were good. Other than that, it's hard to tell.

  20. vgdvc, just did mine.

Yep it worked. You'll need a .0325 allen wrench. I turned mine in a 1/2 turn, worked great. No more slop. See how it holds up. Resetting windage Fri. And.. to get that plate off, I pushed from the top of the mounting holes with a very small screw driver and was able to push the plate off. Didn't want to try prying the plate off from the bottom, hth.
