Nordic Comp. has has a nicely priced 16": Wilson-Nordic AR Rifle Barrel, Stainless 16" Here is a link to the White Oak Arms barrels Sean is referring to: WOA 16" You can get the 18" with a mid or rifle length gas system - WOA 18" I have the 18" WOA barrel with the rifle length gas. Still breaking it in, but I really like the weight. I really prefer the recoil impulse of the rifle gas vs. the mid gas.

Does cutting off the prongs cause any problems with reliability?

If the round are stopping as they hit the feed ramp, they wouldn't have gotten to the extractor yet. Do you have a shock buff in the gun? I was just having this problem as well. I was experimenting with loading my rounds at a OAL of 1.21. They would just stop on the feed ramp. I took out the shock buff and the gun ran fine. I also tried another shock buff that I had that was thinner and the gun ran with that one too.

Second the Wilson gauge, very tight.
