  1. yell at me if there is a match!!! I will work up a load tonight and get it tested before the weekend!

    Sunday, Feb 1

    Registration opens at 8:30

Shooting starts at 9:00 following a shooters brief.

    Hillside Shooting Sports

    Indoor Range and Store

    7870 N Mayne Rd

  2. what has two thumbs and has actually dryfired like 3 nights in a row? This guy!

Last night I was slower, felt like I had to really push for the pars, but my index seemed better and I felt I was getting the sight on the A zone better on the draws and transitions. This grip material on the gun doesn't let you do a lot of re-adjusting. Not worried about it, but it's time to get to work after a few months off...

Last night I also put the TTI connector kit and a grip plug in the G35 and loaded some .40s.

  3. that's a sweet shooter you have. I was feeling pretty jealous having to go back to my glock. :)

If I'd change anything on it, it might be a little lighter recoil spring once you get your load straightened out. A steel/grippy grip would be a sweet cherry on top.

For a first outting with a new gun, you couldn't ask for more. It ran 100% w/ a couple of different loads and at 7 or 8 yrds I simply made an oblong hole w/ 3 rounds on a gun I hadn't shot before.

My load you shot was a 180gr Zero JHP, 4.3gr TG, 1.138" oal, mixed range brass, Win SPP primers, loaded on a dillon die setup, checked in a dillon gauge. I think when we chrono'd that load through your gun in came right in at 165PF, so you'd probably need another tenth or two of TG.

  4. That big jump in velocity between 4.5 and 4.6 gets your attention. It's interesting how 1 grain of powder can make that big of a difference.

Definitely. I Wonder if maybe the 4.3 and 4.5 readings were low for some reason. I had extra loaded up at each step, so when it warms up a bit ill re-run it and see how it looks. Before that 4.6 reading I was starting to wonder if I was going to get a comfortable major load out of the TG....

  5. An experiment in better traction.....

    This. Worked. Awesome.

Even with a looser grip when shooting groups the gun never budged in my hand. I shot a 3-shot 1/2" group at about 8yds ( all inside the top half of a paster.). Emptying a mag as fast as I could work the trigger revealed some awesome sight tracking improvement and I went through a whole mag w.o the first hint of the gun moving in my hand.

Pretty sure I'll be doing this to the G35.

I'm assuming some of the non-linearity in the middle is from the low sample size (5).

I want to try some more a little closer to 1.135" oal. I didn't do a great job getting these where I wanted. I tried some at 4.3 with the oal a little shorter and gained a few FPS and a little better std dev.

  7. I got it!!!

The finish is perfect, the tolerances seem very tight, I have my holster set up fairly well, now I just need to shoot it!!!

The trigger is not what I hoped for, but I think that I will start to break it in first and then take it to a smith to have him look at everything. I am still waiting on Mag tubes, and my base pads and springs to come in from TTI. So all I have it the stock 126mm mag that it came with. I will order some bullets and brass this weekend and start the process of working up a load. I think I might ask around and see if someone has any .40 major loads that I could buy off of them to get the break in process started. I was thinking of running some stock ammo through it but I think I will ask about that before I do.... I don't know if it would be a good idea to break the gun in with ammo that I will not be using in a match.

I am glad that I made the choice to go with the Dawson gun. It looks beautiful, and the fit and finish seems to be fantastic as well. I can't wait to get it to a smith and have him make sure that everything on the inside is a purdy as the outside. Does anyone know of a good smith that is used to working on competition guns? I would also like him to look at the mags when I get them as well.

Well now the journey really begins!

1st. I'm going to FWRR this weekend to do some chrono work. if you want to come along to give it a run and try a handful (I don't have very many loaded myself) of my .40 loads you can.

This was a new gun from Dawson? Why do you feel the need to take a new gun from one of the best smiths to some local dude to look over? If I bought a gun from some local dude, I'd rather send it to Dawson to check out! :)

I can bring trigger pull guage if you'd like, also. we can look at what you don't like about it and what the weights are at different stages and see if it's just a spring tweak.

Don't over think the break-in. Shoot that tool! Nothing wrong w/ running factory ammo till you get the reloader set up....

  8. I've got a JP LMOS carrier in it, although mine is black. Swapped the one from my old rifle into it already.

steel or al?? the new ones I linked are aluminum (like the ones they made several yrs ago). even lighter. I can't justify $300+ for an upgrade from my steel lmos carrier, but I'd be all over it if I was building a new gun. but since you are swapping, NEVERMIND! :)

  9. I don't personally care for the gels and stuff, and grip tape always comes loose on me, doesn't matter how much prep I do to the surface, etc (something w/ the way I slide my WH onto the gun when I grip it, I think).

In some cases, like on my 2011, stippling has been enough. On the glock I've stuggled... something w/ the shape/size of the gun even stippling wasn't enough.

back when I shot beretta, I LOVED my Burner grips, so I decided to duplicate that on my glock.... some epoxy and blasting media or sand and now my grip is rock solid on the gun and it'll take a lot to make it come off.....

  10. --YouTube--

Thanks, but no real change. I'm not sure how much play would be normal in the top 20th round. Once the slide hits that little "ramp" on the bottom side against the top round the resistance seems excessive...

  11. Hi Roy merry Christmas. I read the rules more than many. As in, the rule book. What page of the rule book says 357 sig is legal as MAJ. PF in limited? All I can find is minimum .40 cal

Its in the meeting minutes somewhere.

tes it is. And as I have always believed range officers should be sent any and all changes instead of having to track them down through forums etc

BoD approved it's use, but it's not legal yet, right? I mean it has to show up in the rulebook first, right? Or at least an NROI interpretation at a minumum(currently off line it seems). Surely we aren't using meeting minutes as rules now.......

I'm of the crazy opinion every rule should be in the on-line pdf rulebook and available for download before they can be in effect. There should never be a rule that exists outside of that. The last book nearly going into effect before it was available for download was bad enough.

  12. Congratulations Sporky! I plan on getting a membership to FWRRC by the months end so we can actually practice this game instead of standing and shooting at static targets, or shooting at a range that doesn't allow fast draws or rapid firing. Can't wait to see that in action.

Let me know if you need a sponsor for FWRR. Probably too late for the cut-off for the Feb meeting, but we could try to get you in at the April mtg. April starts the membership year anyway so that would be a good time to get in.

  13. I tried the Taran connector kit ... I measured it at about 4lb

Thanks to Taran for getting my dumbass straightened out.http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=196643&p=2310292

It's now measuring about 3lb, maybe a smidge under.

    - I can get 20 rounds in the mag with the taran basepads, but it's HARD. Like slice my thumb on the cartridge rim and end up using a table to push the round in, and break the glock mag loader tool level of hard. Even after leaving them loaded and locked into a gun for 48 hrs. Looks like 19+1 is what I'll run.

I loaded another 100 rounds tonight and on a whim I tried stuffing them in my 140s. For some reason, I can get 20 in w. My loads fairly easily. I would call them reloadable, but it's aweful tight in the gun, so I'll be curious if it cycles well enough when loaded 20+1.

Have you tried the dawson follower mod yet?

No, what is that? Just switching to Dawson followers? I'm new to tinkering with glocks.....

    Thanks,

  15. Hey Matt,

The plan is still to focus on Production. I'll just dable in Lim at the club level. I just broke out the open gun for a little change of pace/fun at the end of last year, not planning on open right now.

I plan to mostly have my Limited gun set up like my production gun so it won't be any real learning curve between them, just a major/minor and mag capacity difference.

Congrats on the new gun! Coming from Dawson it should be awesome! And going major should definitely help.

    See you soon!

  16. Snuck out to the range just before the sun set. Didn't have enough time to do chrono work, but I had loaded up about 60 rounds of 180s over 4.3 TG since it's near the bottom of the book loads. Just wanted to make sure the setup ran well through the gun, and they did. I really liked the way they shot, hope they were somewhere close to major. A little disappointed in the accuracy. Best 5 round group was 1.25" and a 10 round group was right at 2" (all at 10 yds). Other attempts were worse. but I think most of that was me.... I can pull about every excuse in the book... Setting sun meant hard time seeing the crappy Glock sights, couldn't feel my fingers it was so cold, snow spotting my glasses, wind blowing me all around.....

Brass didn't kick out as far as with the factory loads, but seemed to eject relatively consistently (for a glock)

  17. I don't enjoy reloading, and I especially hate developing new loads. I hope these TG loads work out in the G35 so I can be done and only have to stock the one powder between my 9mm and 40s. Have 4.1-4.7 TG under 180s ready to chrono and shoot groups with.

Thanks to the fam though for the .40 setup for the Dillon for Christmas!

  18. 45 rounds through the new bone-stock G35 limited gun today w. Some factory S&B.

    Some things I noticed.....

    - I've shot .40 before, but not through a plastic gun. I expected to notice more recoil than I did.

    - glock grips are slick as snot from the factory. Between that and the cold air, I couldn't go more than 6rounds without re-adjusting my grip. Planning to epoxy on some grit.

    - stock Glock adjustable sights SUCK! once I figured out a somewhat consistent sight picture I managed a 1.5" group at 10yds. Not great, but not wonderful.

    - I like the gen4 beavertail backstrap, wish I could put that on my production gun. It Let me seat the web of my SH higher and more solidly into the gun w.o cutting up my hand by the slide.

    - the gen4 mag release isn't near as easy to hit as the extended gen3 release. Need to research better mag releases. Surprised they don't have an extended factory one for the 35?

    - surprised to notice it didn't come w. The extended slide release. I already purchased a std one to put in it but don't need it.

    - glock ejection is always weak. This gun ran ok for these first few rounds, but 10% of the empties were too far back and not grouped with the others. No brass hit me or otherwise distracted me, so that's good. We'll see what some break in and tuning can do.
