  1. I learned this bullshit the other day. Sighted my dot at 20 real quick, ran off to a match. Shot fast/clean A's all match, then stitched a no-shoot 3 TIMES at 7 yards trying to make a couple pairs of headshots. Got home, shot at 5-7 yards to find that my gun shoots 3-4" low up close. I'm new to this open stuff. At least irons don't lie...sight at 50, dead on all the way out +/-1.5".
  2. I built an Open 34 similar to USNRET's rig above, only with the big SJC magwell and an upright C-more. I built and tuned it one step at a time, getting the comp/springs tuned, then the ejection pattern and mount. I did all machining myself as I have a mill. Lowering the ejection port by .100" and adding the extended/tunable ejector got it running 100%. I lightened the slide by taking a ton of metal out of the sides/top, run a 9lb spring and titanium rod, 3 port Carver comp, etc. It runs like a top with minor loads, haven't played with major yet. Honestly I'm terrified of major in this gun...the slide is downright sloppy after tens of thousands of rounds and I feel like it'll self-destruct. lol
  3. I started using an old PDP3, which worked fine, but switched to an Aimpoint a while ago. I've got a PRO and a CompC3, both are 2MOA, both are fantastic. The only thing I noticed going from the old Tasco to an Aimpoint was the Aimpoint was more forgiving with parallax at 50.
  4. I have two STI 9mm single-stacks built for accuracy matches, a 6" bushing gun, and a 6" bull barrel. Both have the deep chamber you're referring to, both shoot iron-sighted groups as small as 1.2" at 50 yards from bags for 6 shots (when lighting, eyes, etc are perfect). I load 1.14-1.15" with a 115 XTP or Zero and Titegroup. You undoubtably have the same chamber cut. I used to think STI's were loosely built speed rigs only (and some are), but they've made me a believer and will shoot with a Baer any day of the week. For a 130PF target load, try 3.9gr of TG, a good 115gr jacketed conical (XTP, HAP, Sierra, Zero) seated 1.14", a moderate but consistent crimp (no bullet deformation, only a faint shiny ring at case mouth), a Federal primer, and matched brass (Lapua, Federal, Speer, etc). This is the load of loads...it always shoots in any gun I've tried.
  5. Bingo. I zero dead at 50, never and issue keep them in the X all the way back. I played with the 3-position and never move it from the 50 setting.
  6. Emailed Ron. Hopefully he'll see it. This thread can be deleted.
  7. Quick favor to ask: can somebody affiliated with Pioneer send the Show-Me Cup scores into NRA-HQ? They just need a top down of all the competitors with division and total score. There's a couple of us that have distinguished points and whatnot hanging out there, and I didn't have anybody's contact number. Thanks guys. Kyle
  8. I suppose it warrants adding that I clean my USPSA/Steel/other guns only as necessary to keep functioning reliable. I'm certain I've gone many many thousands of rounds without cleaning many of them. However, on my Bianchi/Bullseye guns I'm like benchrest shooter with getting fairly meticulous into the lug recesses, rails, chamber, etc. As Brian Enos says in his book, you need only be as accurate as you need to be. It doesn't take a perfectly clean pistol to put two in an A-zone at 15 yards, but it may need to be to put 6-12 shots into an inch or two at 50 yards consistently.
  9. I almost exclusively shoot a 115 Zero, XTP, or HAP with 3.9gr of Titegroup (I've played with 3.6-4.3, all shot well), with matched cases (Speer, Starline, Lapua, etc), and a Federal primer. I crimp consistently and just enough to remove the bell, plus a tiny bit (.378ish IIRC). The real accuracy stems from OAL tuning though. I started approaching pistol reloading in the way I would reload for a match rifle. You wouldn't believe the difference in accuracy from tuning seating length. I've also started developing an AA7 load that is much hotter, and it doesn't start grouping until you get into the upper 7's (gr). I'll have to check my notes, but it was a stout load.
  10. Bingo. I wonder if we're arguing the wrong stuff here... If that's the question, they shoot similar but the RangeMaster has more frills.
  11. I've been doing a LOT of factory 9mm 1911 shooting lately (probably 2000 rounds last 2 weeks). Lots of load tuning, bench shooting at 25/50 yards, Ransom rest, etc. I have the following 9mm's I've been playing with. -Springfield Loaded Target (slightly older one) -STI Trojan 6.0 -STI TargetMaster -Kimber Target II -Kimber USA Shooting Team Match II -Les Baer Monolith (plus some Glocks with fitted barrels, an M&P Performance Center CORE, and a full-size Sig P320, that I can think of) Additionally, I have handled the RO pretty extensively, though not this week. Unless STI has changed something real recently, they will outshoot the Springers any day of the week and twice on sunday. The Springers are nice entry pistols and no doubt a great value and foundation from which to build, but the bench accuracy (and general reliability) of the STI single-stacks has made me a believer. They will shoot with the Baers with the right load. The Springers best 25yd groups were around 1.5-2" and averaging closer to 3". That's pretty decent for most people, although I consider it very average. To put in perspective, a semi-fit Bar-Sto in a G19 was having no issues doing 1.75" at 25. The STI's on the other hand are doing sub-1" at 25, and both of them have put 5 or 6 shot groups into 1.2" at 50, which is insane. Today with the 6.0 Trojan and some OAL load tweaking yielded a 5-shot group at 25 of .6", with the first shot as a "flyer" and the other 4 going into a quarter inch (center to center). That was backed up with a 1.2" 5-shot 50 yard group. A poorly fitted pistol won't do this, it simply can't. As far as the Baer, it shoots like a Baer. The Kimbers seemed to have an edge on the RO for raw accuracy, but had a real short chambers which is a pain in the ass for load tuning.
  12. I chrono'd my load today (been dropping 3.9gr of TG, I stated 3.7 before) with a 115 Zero in my 6" STI. Was running right at 1100 consistently. Funny thing is, in the warmer weather I was doing 1170fps consistently. Seems like a big jump for 20 degrees. Who cares, I shot 1890 today .
  13. Go on Amazon and order 1000 of the 6" wooden Q-tips for like $15. Thank me later. I can't live without them. I clean/lube all my guns and reloading presses with them. The are strong enough to "dig in" and thin enough to get into lug recesses and frame rails. I will say that I clean/lube my 1911's very often, and I pretty much never clean my polymer guns. I once threw a Glock 34 angrily into a muddy field, left it there a few days, then pretty much hosed it off and shot another 2000 rounds. It was plate rack induced.

  16. I should add that I wouldn't feel out of place shooting coated in a match, and I have, but when you pay hundreds or thousands to shoot Bianchi, you're not gonna fret over paying $40 for proper jacketed bullets for the accuracy edge. I should've added above, the coated 115's shot around 4" at 50 from a factory Glock, and around 3" from my TargetMaster.
  17. I was shooting coated 147 conicals for practice in my 38SC open gun, in lieu of the 147 XTP's I usually shoot in it for matches. Although the XTP's would shoot sub-1" at 50, the coated would still shoot 2" or so without any new load development, good enough for practice fodder. For Production and Metallic 9mm, I did the same thing with roundnose coated 115's, even if I shot Zeros for a match.
  18. Approaching Bianchi I shoot at least one event, 4-6 times a week for 2-3 months. I have a range at home, which helps a LOT, as I shoot nearly every day. Once I have achieved near-mastery of an event, I go back and focus predominately on where I'm dropping points. For me lately it's been left side barricade at the long-line (POI shift), tossing an 8 or two at 10 yards weak hand, and for some reason I keep tossing an 8 or two at 25 on Practical. So I'll then shoot that COF over and over until I figure out a technique that consistently works. It's not just shooting. Practicing drawstroke, dry firing, etc is a constant process, every day nearly.

    VP9 Experience

Different strokes I guess. I love the HK mag release and much prefer the Walther PPQ M1 version with similar mag release.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I understand if a person does like it, but for me I can't go back and forth when so many of my other pistols are a button. They outta offer both styles like Walther.
  21. I'm telling ya, try 147 minor loads, you'll be surprised. My 38SC Open gun with 147 minor loads is super quiet and docile.

    VP9 Experience

I fondled a VP9 the other day at the gun store. I have never liked any pistol HK has released aside from the brilliant P7, but I liked this. Oh, except the mag release, it's horrible and cost them a sale from me. What the hell are they thinking with that thing? I'm now looking at the comparable Walther model with a traditional release. Why screw up something just to be different?
  23. Did some El Pres's today. 4.30-4.60 traditional reload, very erratic with my new style, although I did muster a 4.03 all-Alpha. That was somewhat of a fluke, as I also had many fumbles that were the same or slower than my normal El Pres. I still think I can touch 3.80 on a clean run using my method. One thing is for sure though, this is useless if you're shooting past 10 yards, and on about anything but an El Pres.
  24. 1170 from a 6" tube. I think they did 1090 from a 5" as I recall.
