  1. Guys, I have loaded over 150,000 rounds of federal small pistol primers with no detonations.....If you have the swage set up you should not have any detonations at all. It is a learning curve but most of the issues are from the unswaged primer pockets and and the primer tab not being adjusted properly including not cleaning the primer slide area, etc......

  2. Rowdy,

Good to talk to again. Sorry you had a boom. It happens if you load long enough. You found out the bane of 9mm reloading. 9mm mixed brass has all kinds of different primer pocket dimensions.

The best way to alleviate this is to have your brass processed, ie. have the primer pocket reamed.

Since you have a 1050 you can swage the primer pocket and alleviate most of your issues. Make sure once you have it set up swaging correctly to adjust the plastic tab on the priming station. Put a case in the station, put a business card between the case and tab and tighten it down. That should take care of most problems.

Next issues is when for whatever reason you mangle a primer (primer pocket issue or just act of god loading 9mm....) and it stays in the primer slide. It will sometimes push up the primer slide arm so the toolhead won't go all the way down. Just pull the primer station tab off and then dig out the mangled primer from the primer slide. Use some air and blow the area out and then reinstall the primer station tab.

If you have priming problems after a mangled primer then pull the inner primer tube and look at the blue tip. It probably needs to be replaced due to the mangled primer .....wait for it....mangling the tip..... :goof: .

Just don't force anything while loading on the 1050. It is a simple machine. When you force stuff it will break or possibly go boom. The more you use it the more you will know what the problem is.

    Good luck,

Ok, here was the first groups from the test ammo. They prompted me to load up some test ammo. I increased the crimp and here are groups from the next bath with more crimp.

    I would love some input.

I will call and claim the high and low shots, and I remember doing them...ARGH!

As my groups were better with less crimp on the first two groups I am thinking to go back on the crimp and increase the powder a little bit....

    Thanks as always....

  4. Bingo, I want the company that made it to make sure it is 100%. It is a defensive handgun, nothing more, nothing less. It should go bang only when I make it go bang. For those that defiantly have decided since the gun shoots ok now they will refuse to send it in....That is called willful disregard. I hope it never discharges when you don't want it to, and then someone finds the post. It will be hard to defend that in court. When a "BIG" company does a recall it costs them a lot of money....they have to eat it to make things right, and to keep their reputation solid. Springfield has handled this recall in a much better manner than, in my experience, Beretta, SigSauer, and S&W. I like those companies, but this recall was done in the public eye in a immediate matter. My next purchase will be a Springfield, period.

Mine is back no problem . I think some of the negative replies are from people who have never had a company to run .

  5. Update. I made it to the range to chrono yesterday. It was overcast, but I got it done.
The two loads I ended up with were the 5.2 WST, and the 6.5 VV 340. Both loads shot under 1.5 inches in the clusters.

I loaded up a 100 of each load and will go shoot groups and see which one is more consistent. I am of the opinion that VV 340 is the ultimate accuracy powder....It shoots really well in every caliber I have tried.

I will post some photos of groups when I can.

  6. Matt is an accomplished Ruger Rimfire competitior, has placed high at the World matches and at the Regional matches. He is usually high Junior and kicks a lot of old guy asses as well. If Tim is offering a comp that is an improvement then I for one will try it. I am really happy with my Allchin comp but am always willing to try something better.

We all need new toys, right....

  7. I haven't been able to get anything loaded, too busy on other calibers. I am going to bump up the TG load up to 1050FPS and group that. I am also going to work up a load with 320 and 340. 340 shoots the best in 9 and 38 super that I can't imagine it won't shoot well in the 38 special as well......I will update when time allows......

  8. Hi Dave.....if you are loading you will either tray the ammo at some point, or just count the primer boxes.....As far as a bigger container, putting a 3 gallon bucket on a chair or some shelf you can build will work fine. You really don't want to carry more than a 3 gallon bucket full of any ammo....

If you need counts, I would suggest getting a counting scale, got mine off ebay for about $120 bucks. weigh up about 30 pieces of whatever, hit the tare button, pull a couple out to confirm it is counting the individual ones correctly, and then dump it in the tray and count that way. Dillon used to make a counter that stuck through the hole on the crimp die, and some are still out there. A search on the forum yielded someone using a pedometer or something to measure strokes on the machine as well....Lots of options out there.

    Good luck!

  9. Lets see.......when they figured out they had a problem they asked for them all to be turned in so no one had issues with the gun further. What ever the problem was they were able to duplicate it at the factory, and at that point were liable.

This is much more preferable than having a "product Upgrade" to a duty pistol that you would not know about until you asked the factory. From what other factories have "done" or "not done" in regards to recalls I can say that they were up front with the problem and will stand behind the gun and get the fix before they send them out. It all boils down to perspective, and I would much rather them fix my gun than it not work when I need it too.....Something to ponder.

  10. Plated bullets produce iffy groups in Glock barrels particularly, and usually not much better in conventional barrels, coupled with a fast powder that is not recommended for that caliber at all, coupled with most likely too much crimp will give you horrible accuracy....

Yes, I know....the xtremes are some of the best plated out there. I would say your biggest problem is the powder. You load that bullet under some W231, Titegroup, or Solo 1000 and your group will be circular instead of a shotgun pattern. Crimp no more than .376 and you will be ok loading the plated bullets....

    Hope that helps.

    Well, here she is.....

This gun started as a Bianchi metallic gun when I bought it 15 years ago. I then made it into an ICORE gun, and then a pin gun.

It is a 7 shot l frame moon clipped L frame. I went down to have my friend Warren Moore supervise and advise my build. He provided the Walter blank barrel and aluminum comp. We went through the gun and when we were done the trigger was down to 6lbs with the hammer mounted firing pin and smooth!

After the Region X match at Bates City on Saturday we sighted it in out to 50 yards with the help of a few friends.

With the ammo I have loaded now....5.2gr Tightgroup with a Zero 125JHP .357 it has no problem putting 6 rounds in the 4 in x ring at 50 yards, period, even with me shooting it. I got three rounds to touch but got in a hurry and blew the group out to 3 inches....Rookie...LOL

I am going to experiment with a little more powder to see if that helps, and work up loads with 320 and 340 and see if that helps as well. I have a load with WST to try but I am waiting on 16 lbs right now....none around. The gun is more accurate than I, and I look forward to putting it through it's paces....

I would like to thank Warren for his assistance, guidance, and most importantly his friendship in this endeavor. His machine work is second to none, and his advice saved me a lot of time and money!

    Next year will be fun.
