  1. Short colt is fun, think of it as a rimmed 9mm. You can use the low end 9mm data to start. Once you get sticky extraction you are done. Faster powders like 310 are good up to a 125PF with heavy bullets (150+). Medium powder like 320 is good for 135ish PF loads with Heavy bullets. The heavier bullets with longer bearing surfaces shoot more accurately.

Go slow and work your load up.

Buy the Starline brass and Hearthco clips. It only hurts once....

    Good luck,

  2. 9mm cases usually in 9 Major loosen up the primer pocket and won't hold a primer before the case is really bad.

9mm cases running minor loads usually get lost before they go bad or blow out. I have seen cases that have been fired countless times and roll sized finally let go at the rear of the case. The end of the case comes off whole. Other than that, if you bell the case mouth more than you need to you may get a split in the case. The nickel cases are a little more brittle and are more prone to that too.

  3. Then I guess the Winchester rep standing next to him telling me that they are loading 700,000 round of rifle and 1 million pistol rounds a day was lying as well. I guess all the other factory people that I know that are telling me that they are making more product than ever before and it is flying out of the plants must be lying as well. I imagine the info last week about Hornady adding more production capability is BS as well....

All I can tell you is that they are making as much as they can, and we are buying it as fast as we can.....

  4. I have over `150K on backorder. I had 50K ordered through one large retailer and I got a call last week. I ended up with 25K of Fed small pistol and was grateful.

I spoke to one of the Federal reps at Bianchi and he told me that as of then (MAY) they had between 100-120 semis leaving the factory everyday loaded to the gills.

We are still buying everything they make right now......The end is not in sight either.....

  5. Just depends on where they set up the low ready point. A good example is Accelerator. The 18x24 is right there from low ready, and you can get your first shot off around .60 on it, or do around 1.00-1.10 on the 8 in plate next to it....just what you are comfortable doing. Play with it, write down times, figure out what is better for you!

  6. Spencer, what do you load on? It may have been a primed case and no powder as well. If it put the bullet down the chamber and it took the bolt released to close the chamber then you definitely would have had a bullet in the barrel, and it took the full throw of the bolt to chamber, most likely pushing the live round bullet back in the case, and creating well over 60K of PSI, most likely closer to 100K.....

Glad you and she are Ok.....It will make you shake your head if it was on a progressive press....if it was on a 550 then I understand.....

  7. For best results you MUST run processed brass in this or any processed machine.

If you are loading 9mm you MUST hand sort the brass to get the .380 out of the brass. If you re using a bullet feeder the .380 case will tip in the powder station and then go sideways into the bullet feeder die.

You need to set the slip clutch as light as you can.

After all this you also need to keep you eyes on it at all times.

    Good luck!

  8. I was one of the guys at the Briley match that "shooshed" shooters when I was RO ing.....

Nothing personal....It was just some Older shooters and a lot of excited new shooters that were plugged or muffed having conversations. No big deal, they just needed to step back away from the line to have their conversation.

It really wasn't a problem, and no different than any other match I have attended in the last 18 years.

It boils down to common courtesy....which was in abundance at the match.

When you have a lot of newer shooters as this match did you don't always know the expectations and how things run.

That is how I learned as well.....

  9. Stick with a 95 JHP, or 115 JHP/FMJ.

95 grain RN bullets suck in the accuracy department, and honestly, if you can afford an akai, (wonderful machine that it is!) then use the JHPs.

You can only load out to 1.050 OAL with the 95Jhp, and it will feed fine in the double stack gun.

For 115s start at an OAL of 1.120-30 and start at 4.0grains of 320. I don't know what recoil spring you will have but I had an 8lb in my limited 6in gun.

You want the load to lock back the slide. Put one round in the mag and shoot it. If it reliably locks back then you are ok. Add .02 grains to the load for a dirty gun and to make sure it is reliable in a match situation. Then load up a couple hundred rounds and shoot a dirty gun and see how many rounds it goes until it pukes.

Reliability is the number one thing, period. It doesn't matter how soft the load is unless the gun runs every string......

    Have fun!

  10. I have been a match director of some large matches, and yes, I have had one or two RO's that were asked not to come back and they quite frankly made my life difficult during the match.

It happens. You deal with it, you go on.

I have had so many other wonderful RO's that worked for me, I have worked with them, and I have enjoyed many more wonderful RO's as a shooter.

Most of the time it is a personality thing, but it boils down to customer service. You are there to serve the shooter and the match itself.

Most of us are Alpha Males and can rub each other wrong some times. You just have to realize it is a game, we are there to have fun and be safe. You can do both, and having a cold brew with them later never hurts either.....

Communication is a two way street. Unless you have been an RO and involved in the running of the matches you may not understand what is going on.

    Oh Yeah.....Stuff happens too.... :goof:

  11. um....Hell no.....

You can comfortably load up to a 125 PF with VV310, but not Clays with a 147 or higher grain bullet.

Use Titegroup, SOLO 1000, or 320 for anything over 130 with the heavier bullet, and use a heavy taper crimp, or a roll crimp.

Many people have blown up cylinders with fast powder and heavy bullets....<not me... :roflol: >

  12. Tighten down the nut that holds the shellplate down. You will have to figure out how much to do. This will make the shellplate advance slower and smoother. You can also clip a coil off the ball detent spring and that will keep it from "slapping" . The biggest factor is your rhythm on the up stroke. It needs to be smooth. You can also take a piece of cardboard from bullet boxes and superglue them between the locator buttons and the shellplate so the case doesn't slosh out and then pop back into the shellplate recess when it stops at the station.

    Something to try anyway.....

    Good luck,

    DougC

  13. ******UPDATE********

DC AMMO is sponsoring a social gathering at the match hotel Saturday night. I don't know if we will get a room or the hotel lobby, but when I asked if I could bring a keg in the desk lady said...."Yea, no problem...."

Needless to day, I will update here and put up information at the range as well.

......before Cliff asks, I will get Coors light....

Stop by and have a cold one, and talk some old school Single Stack/Wheelgun fun with us there!

  14. You know, I read these threads and just shake my head. We have people having statements of fact and maligning people, the organization, and making blanket statements about stuff in which we don't have all the information and facts, relying on "some" information relayed on the internet.

I just have to wonder when it will be my turn to be the "Person of Interest" who is tried and convicted based on hearsay and conjecture. It may be me being a cop for the last 20 years, but I learned a long time ago not to open my mouth until I had all the facts and had spoken to all the parties involved, and even then you don't get the whole truth.

The person in question may have done something wrong, or just made a mistake based on what they were told. He may be a jerk that cheated. I don't know, and pretty much no one else here does either. If mistakes were made, then fix them and move on. I think people here need to get to the range more and enjoy life than pick at scabs here.....

I kept my mouth shut on the FNS thread, but this is ridiculous....calling the integrity of the NROI into question.....really?

Come on guys, we have to be better than this......
