Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Shooting my 2nd sanctioned match here. Looking forward to it. Who else is going? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Thinking a Glock 19 would work well. I started in IDPA with this gun before getting a G34. Assume with ESP rules, we could add magwell.
  3. I shoot a 1911 style gun (Kimber Pro Carry HD) in CDP.
  4. Definitely a personal preference. Also I have a friend who swears by a rear adjustable (Dawson Precision). Myself, I like the fixed rear and fiber optic front. I installed Warren Tactical Sevingny Competition sights (Black serrated rear fixed and a red fiber optic front) on my G34 and it are great. Installed the same set on my G19 for carry as well. Hope that helps.
  5. Hello fellow shooters. Just joined this group yesterday. Looking forward to engaging in conversation with y'all. Have a very Merry Christmas!
  6. I shoot IDPA with my G34 and it loves 147 grain copper plated bullets best. I generally use Berry or Rainier bullets. 3.3 grains of TiteGroup powder and COAL of 1.155 Soft and accurate. Minor power factor for IDPA. This load workup gives me a 130 PF (bullet weight x velocity (fps) / 1000). Hope that helps. Candidly, though, I shoot 115 and 124 grain bullets fine as well in this gun. I will also use SNS Casting 147 grain FN coated lead bullets for practice. Less expensive and good performance.
  7. A lot of great tips and drills on this post. I find that during a reload, I will slow down ever so slightly to "look the mag into the magwell." Specifically, I grab the mag from the pouch where I have the tip of my index finger over the top bullet in the mag and like jkrispies said above, I focus on that notch on my G34 and once the mag is inserted past the magwell, I will speed back up and slam it home. Weak hand slides nicely into proper position and I engage slide catch as I am presenting firearm to target. Another very critical aspect of a consistent reload for me is I anchor the elblow of my strong hand/arm into my side and present my gun where the magwell is angled toward my mag pouches located on my left hip. This anchoring of my elbow helps me develop a consistent spot I expect mag to meet gun. I hope that makes sense.
  8. A shirt is acceptable to use as a cover garment as long as it covers the gun - IWB or OWB - and the mag pouches. I like the vest as the rigidity of the vest I wear (Armadillo Concealment) allows me to easily get to the gun quickly as well as the mag pouches.
  9. I focus on front sight but do not lose sight of the rear sight. I work on my draw and presentation to give me time to acquire the sight as quick as possible. I hear what your are saying though. Shooting plates beyonf 10 yards can start to be problematic as your sight picture can completely cover an 8" plate at distance. As I train more, I find palces where I can speed up so that the times I need to slow down a little, it doesn't hurt me too much. I try and be real quick to get hand on gun and slow down just a bit to establish a good weak hand grip-, then speed up a little bit during presentation, take up the trigger so that when I am fully extended, I am ready to break the shoot. Agree with comments about, "slow IS fast" as priority 1 is to hit target (either 0 or 1) and priority 2 is to do so as fast as possible. without violating priority 1. :-)
  10. Short answer: Yes. Great question! When I started shooting IDPA, I started with a Glock 19 (one of my carry guns). I shot SSP with it. Once I decided that this (IDPA) was something I was going to invest more time and commitment to, I upgraded to a Glock 34 and I now shoot SSP with that. I also shoot CDP division with a Kimber Pro Carry HD. I am hoping IDPA will approve the proposed division of CCP (Conceal Carry Pistol) as the G19 would fall within its requirements and limitations. I have been carrying concealed for over 15 years and I carry EVERYWHERE I can legally. If you don't carry all the time, what's the point? :-) I would challenge others to do the same. I don't compete with the G19 all the time, but I try and shoot at least 3-4 matches a year with it. Fun gun to shoot. I have made a few modifications to it (to still stay in SSP) - sights and trigger, but that's it.
  11. I just joined IDPA November 2013 (last year). I shot in 3 local matches before shooting a classifier (which I made MM in SSP class with a Glock 19). I have been an avid hunter/shooter since 10 years old - come from bench shooting, long range rifle and shotgun. I am addicted to competitive pistol shooting. This year I hope to classify as Sharpshooter or higher in SSP and at least MM in CDP. Just trying to find more time to practice. Look forward to connecting with other competitive shooters out there. I would love to connect with others on IDPA. I shoot in North Carolina (Charlotte), South Carolina (Greenville and Spartanburg, SC) pretty regularly at local matches. Hoping this year I can dedicate more time to the sport. All the Best, Robert Alexander A335784
  12. I use the Mini-IDPA targets from Ben Stoeger online. They are $9.95 in a kit and have to scale high-quality cardboard IDPA targets, plates and poppers. I would post a link but apparently I am "too new" and do not have the priviledge. Kinda stupid. :-) Enjoy.
