  1. I am about to order 6 of the Mec-Gar 17rd mags. I can't seem to find information on the base pads that come on them. I am assuming that the ones that come on the Mec-Gars are just fine. Anyone that uses the Mec-Gar 17s, did you replace the basepads, or use them as-is? All of my other guns, I have replaced the factory base pads with something better. I will probably run the Mec-Gars how they come to see if I like them with the stock base pads. This will be my first gun that I will be running after market mags in. I had a chance to shoot it this past week, and it is a sweet shooting gun. This is my first all steel pistol that has iron sights. It shoots so much smoother than my M&P and Glock that I have been shooting for the past year. I love the sights that came on it. They are very crisp and easy to pick up the front sight. I am a right handed, left eye dominant shooter still working on keeping both eyes open with iron sights. I can't wait to get to a range and shoot it fast. I have to travel about 1 hour to get to a range that lets you shoot faster than 1 shot a second . And that has to be on a match day and stay for practice after the match. Thanks, -Wayne
  2. Sorry for the empty post. Would you believe it if I said my dog was licking the phone screen on the floor after I set it down from reading another post in the tap a talk app. I had to edit this post because I don't know how to delete it. If someone knows how, please delete this response. Thanks.
  3. I have seen :Ammoload, FM, IMT. I had the same thing happen to me a few months back. I ended up throwing about a third of my collected brass out. I finally used up all my factory ammo, and only have my own loads, but I still check each case before polishing, just to make sure one doesn't sneak in from other shooters.
  4. It came in today. What a beauty! I love the almost flat black finish with just a touch of gloss. The trigger is 8 pounds DA, and 3 pounds SA. The DA trigger pull sure feels lighter than that though. I measured it with my trigger pull scale. It is very smooth. I plan on 6 of the Mec-gar mags. I will order those in the next week or so. the 3 stock mags it came with should be fine for the local range while I get used to the trigger and sights before shooting it in a match. Thanks for all the recommendations on the holster and mags. I will post a few picture later. -Wayne
  5. Awesome. I will probably order the same. I hate not being able to have fun over a 50 cent part.
  6. Hi. I just bought a new CZ SP01 Shadow Custom from Speed Shooters Connection. Hopefully I will get it by this weekend. I am going to start using my regular 9mm minor loads of 124 xtreme bullet with 4gr of HS6 that I currently shoot in my M&P and Glock. I will have to chrono to make sure it makes PF, but I am not too worried that it won't because of some other users reports on this forum. I also have some Montana Gold 124gr JHP's that I use in my major loads. Would these be better, or are they probably not going to give me much advantage in accuracy at the minor PF velocity? Other than what is listed on the website and what I have read on the fourms, is there anything I need to know about it? This is my first CZ, and my first non-plastic minor load gun (I have a STI open gun that is almost all metal). I was searching for this gun for a month or so now, and several local dealers could not locate one. By chance I happened to click on the Speed Shooters Connection website under completed firearms yesterday and found it. To other SP01 Shadow owners, what holsters are you using? Is there any brand/model of holster that stands above the rest. Right now I will probably get a comp-tac holster because I have 2 for my other production guns, and they work great so far. Thanks.
  7. HI. I have 3 140 and 1 170 mag with Grams springs and followers. I had issues with the stock mags. I had a lot of nosedives, and the follower flipped over 1 time. I spoke on the phone with Gram and he gave me some tips. Since then all my mags have been trouble free. My mags are using the Dawson Tool-less base pads. He told me to glue the spacer in place in the mag, and to use a very light oil on the inside of the tube (run a rag through it with a little oil on it). For me, the Grams springs and followers, and gluing the spacer in place is what helped the most.
  8. Freedom munitions is what I was shooting/ collecting brass from until I started loading my own. That is where all of mine came from.
  9. I remember reading that on their website now...
  10. Hmm... Good point. I am using the regular RN not the hpcp. I should try those and see.
  11. No, my M&P is getting worn out a bit I think. All of my stats were shooting standing unsupported so my accuracy is not as good as using a bench rest
  12. I have been loading the 124 gr RN xtreme bullets and this is my results with 2 different guns and 2 different loads (a major PF load and a minor PF load): at 125 powerfactor out of my M&P accuracy is 14" groups at 50 yards at 125 powerfactor out of my M&P accuracy is 2" groups at 20 yards at 173 powerfactor out of my open gun, I get 2" groups at 20 yards. the same minor PF loads in my open gun accuracy at 50 yards is about the same as with the M&P at 173 powerfactor out of my open gun, accuracy at 50 yards is terrible. I cant even hit the 12 inch circle. The shots miss by several feet sometimes left right up and down in a random pattern. My dot is in the same place every shot. I think the speed of major power factor with these degrades accuracy severely. I have about 2500 of them left and will use them up. I bought a bunch because of the price point. I plan to try something else when my stock runs out. My crimp seems to be correct after a few adjustments and tests. The current load I am using works for me at the moment as most of the targets I shoot at in matches are < 25 yards. Thanks.
  13. Mine seems to be pretty tight. I can't really ice it side to side very much when the slide is forward. It is really smooth too. If I don't put grease on the rails, it is very difficult to move the slide. So far I have been using the slide glide lube from Brian Enos that came with my reloading press.
  14. Woo Hoo! This thing is a blast. I am working on some reliability issues with the mags. I get about 2 or 3 malfunctions per match. I will be getting some Grams springs and followers tomorrow. I also got a bunch of tips on other things to try with the mags to make them run 100%. With the load I ended up with the dot stays in the glass most of the time with my grip currently. This is only the second match with this gun for me. I am still trying to figure out at what range sighting the dot works best for me. I thought about just setting it up so that it shoots the same distance below the dot as the bore at 25 yards, but I am playing with it still. Currently it is zeroed at 25 yards. I will have to come clean now.... I am addicted to shooting open now. Anyways, here is a video of 3 stages from this past weekend.
  15. Alright. I can report back success!!! After sorting all my brass and starting over with my load. I ended up with 8gr of HS-6 under my 124 xtreme bullets for a 173 powerfactor. I had the Pro-Chrono and i was getting inaccurate readings before, that is how I ended up way too didn't think without knowing it. I bought the light kit for my chrono last week and get an accurate reading now. I thought I had enough light where I was at the local range before but apparently it wasn't. The light kit made all the difference in the slightly lower light I was in. I am going to stick to this load (8gr HS-6) for now. I am shooting it in my Trubor. The dot in the c-more wiggles all over when i shoot, but the dot doesn't leave the glass. I know it will get better as I work on my grip with this gun. A warning to those like me that are new to shooting open division, learning to load ammo, and loading major powerfactor all at the same time... make sure you are getting an accurate reading from the chrono, and pay attention to your brass and throw out IMT, Ammoload, and "FM". Looking back I should have linked up with someone else to try their chrono, or have them shoot their known load/gun through my chrono.
  16. Whoops, I meant small rifle primers. My brain to keyboard double check filter wasn't working
  17. Thanks everyone. I am glad I found the issue so fast. I am going to re-sort all my brass and toss it. I have shot about 400 rounds of my mixed brass that is about 127 power factor out of my glock 17 with no issues. I will shot up the rest of my minor rounds. But I won't load any more, minor or major, of the IMT or ammo load. I am also going to back my load down some and chrono it next time. I am going to back down to 8gr and start back over. I already have a chrono. I will make sure my first shots are through the chrono. Maybe if I would have chronoed the first few, I would have known it was too hot and stopped before I ran into problems. Thanks again for all the comments. I learn something new every day!
  18. Oops, I meant to post this in the 9mm reloading section. Can someone move it to there please?
  19. I was wondering about those. I didn't know what the step was for anyways. The step didn't seem to be at the same depth as where the cases broke and I couldn't find any of the head of the cases that broke. Do you think those could be the culprit?
  20. I am working on a load for my trubor in 9mm and ran into a problem today. I ended up at 8.9gr of HS-6 under a 124gr xtreme bullet with CCI large rifle primers. I went to the range this morning and fired a few of this new load to look for pressure signs before putting it on the chrono. I fired about 20 or so shots and then rounds wouldn't chamber at all. The last round had fired just fine. The back 1/2 of the round was no where to be found. I came home to inspect and found that about 1/2 of a casing was stuck in the chamber. I finagled it out of there and cleaned everything. I headed back to the range to try it again thinking maybe it was just a fluke. The exact same thing happened again. Both times before I got to the chrono, so unfortunately I don't know the velocity and can't calculate the power factor. I have already pulled the second one out and cleaned it all again. Next time I will be sure to chrono first. Now for the inspection. everything in the pictures is from this load. The primers look a little too "punched" I am thinking. What does everyone else think about the primers. Am I exceeding pressures? I am using mixed stamp brass picked up from a local range that doesn't allow hand-loaded ammo, so I have to assume it is all once-fired factory stuff. Does anyone have any ideas on what could cause this? I didn't find anything on the search. I was searching for broken case in chamber. This trubor has about 400 rounds through it so far and I have shot 1 USPSA match with it. The lighter (less powder loads) I have tried were all fine. I thought it was a fluke the first time, but now I am worried I am doing something wrong. I want to add that the buggered-up-ness in the picture was from me pulling it out. They were perfectly formed to the inner wall of the chamber.
  21. What striker spring are you running? Are you running the full Apex competition trigger kit, or just the actual trigger. Are you running the stock striker, or the extended and lightened one? Thanks.
  22. Hey, yep, shoot straight. I normally go to tenoroc for "testing". I tried last Sunday but they said their pistol and rifle range will be closed for 3 months. I'm planning to try saddle creek this Saturday morn. I already bought a chrono.
  23. I just got back from the local range. Apparently they don't let you shoot reloaded ammo. I had a box of freedom munitions 9mm 124gr. I decided to try it and it cycled no problem. All 50 rounds. That freedom munitions stuff was a 126 power factor in my glock 17 when I shot production in the IPSC nationals in Frosproof last year. I thought this gun wasn't supposed to cycle light loads like that? Should I be worried that it does? Or did I just get lucky? Thanks.
  24. Nice. I plan to do some testing like that hopefully this weekend. Previously I could put 10 shots in a 12 inch circle at 50 yards standing, with my M&P that had a Vortex razor red dot on it. I haven't got to chrono my load yet, but 7.2gr of HS-6 under a 124gr xtreme bullet seemed to cycle the gun fine last night. I know it is low, but I will slowly work it up as I get a chance to chrono. The only range around me that will let me use my chrono is only open Saturday mornings. Some of the other ranges around me don't even let you shoot reloaded ammo By the way, my actual name is Wayne.
