  1. Yeah, if I had access to true steel challenge I wouldn't even be asking since I could shoot my P-09 in Production and be competitve. But these are run and shoot steel matchs where I am in the same division as USPSA Limited guns. Granted I could shoot my Prod gun for the practice, but I couldn't stand not being competitve. I have decided to get an Elite Match. At least the ergonomics match my Prod gun, just no DA pull and I'll have a mag well. Plus I can always put a 40SW upper on later on and shoot Limited. Now, to sell my 45 RO that is a safe queen.
  2. I'm going to do a weld on Canyon Creek magwell. I was basing the mags off $20 per mag + $35 per basepad. I'd want 3. Wilson ETM's are $40 and I'd need 4. The stages are normally 20-28 rounds. So yes, the mags would cost more for the 1911. I was thinking individually. I think I may have taken stupid pills this morning, I've been off all day. My CZ is accurate but not as much as my Range Officer in 45. I held Ben Stoeger's Tanfo (sounds dirty?!) and shot another in his clas, but it was just into the berm. I know Tanfoglio's have a reputation for accuracy, but is it comparable to a quality 1911? My RO will easily put 8 rounds in one inch at 10 yards, off hand. I own no other gun that compares.
  3. First; I decided to post this here because the 1911 board would obviously vote that way and I suspect many of you that own pasta shooters also own or have at least put time behind the 1911. Obviously they would be in different divisions, but none of my local clubs run true Steel Challenge matches, they are all outlaw with movement and barricades. The prevailing Divisions seem to be Open (guns with optics), 1911 and Stock (read: everything else). I ran my P-09 Production pistol in the Stock division a few weeks ago (see my Avatar photo) and was up against 2011's and SA CZ's and Tanfoglios. With the exception of a few GM types, everyone shooting a Production type gun finished behind those shooting Limited type guns; as it should be. So, opinion time. 1911 in 9mm (likely a Range Officer) or a Witness Elite Match in 9mm? I chose the Elite Match instead of a Witness Limited because they are similarly priced to a used RO and I want to keep the whole endeavor under 1k when all said and done. 1911 thoughts: Mags are cheaper, mag well is cheaper. I would likely have to load special ammo with a longer OAL. I am not used to a grip safety. I would need to buy an extended mag release. Classic gun. Elite Match thoughts: ergonomics similar to my P-09. Magwell is expensive. Mags are more expensive with Hennings Pads, Gun would be about $100 cheaper (used prices), so that makes up the mag well difference. Sexy lines. On paper, they seem equal, but with opposite positive and negatives. Has anyone shot both in single action Witness guns and 1911's in Steel matches?
  4. The dicey part is determining what is worst. Hard dog poo that disintegrates so you can breath it in or fresh dog poo that slings on everything (including my lip one time. )
  5. At the risk of getting this off subject slightly... I have a RO in 45 that I shot once in CDP then decided I preferred USPSA. I shoot Production so the RO sits in my safe and has seen less than 100 rounds in the last year. I have been toying with the idea of shooting Single Stack in Steel Challenge. Opinion request time... Should I run the 45 RO or sell it and pick up a 9mm RO for SC? I got a smoking deal on the 45 and have enough mags that I could probably break even, then just buy 9mm mags. I don't reload for 45 and have less than 100 rounds of it on hand, where as 9mm I have thousands loaded and components for tons more. Anyone have both to compare the accuracy? The 45 RO I own is the most accurate pistol I have ever shot. Thoughts? Thanks,

    P-09 Tuning Info

I did that when I got mine. It made a huge difference. I took mine out as far as possible.

    Carry Optic P09

Half cock with the decocker is fine.

    Carry Optic P09

I run with the decocker and have never had a problem. But after this thread, I guess I should check and see if I can make it decock in recoil.

    Carry Optic P09

On Topic. I played with a MOS but didn't shoot it. Not impressed. Seems Glock Executives thought, "if we mill a relief here and tap some holes, we can upcharge the Timmies." Off Topic - Obviously it is very personal, but I feel this way about the CZ P-0 series vs any Glock, and used to be a Glock guy. The CZ P-07 and P-09 are just, well, better. I wish (are you listening CZ) for a RAMI sized P version.

    P-09 Tuning Info

The main spring plug with the lanyard hammers the heel of your weak hand during a mag change. I cut mine off for now. I will order the P-07 plug later on. Last I checked neither CZ-USA or CZ Custom had any. But that was a few weeks ago. Oddly enough, my new style P-07 had the lanyard style plug and it's not supposed too. Guess they have plenty of stock for the old style.

    P-09 Tuning Info

Interest is piqued! Anyone know of a source for the followers beside CZ Custom? They are out of stock. If it works in live fire, I would like too run the same experiment on one mag as well, but I don't have an SP-01 to steal the follower from.

    P-09 Tuning Info

Z, I run an 11 lbs Glock 17 IMSI flat wire spring and I can 1000% echo you statement of case gauging. I now put rejects into a bucket for use in a gun with a looser chamber (i.e.: my S&W Shield).
  13. Z, I may have missed it, but what weights did you test?

    Carry Optic P09

Genius! Pure genius! Plastic Unicorn. Lol! I love my plastic unicorn! If you squint the P-09 resembles the Stock 2 on Steggers "Come and Game It" shirts. Now I may have to order another P-09 and optic it up.
  15. My P-07 is more accurate with Freedom 115 FMJ, than my 124 gr handloads using Xtreme bullets. But the difference is small, maybe 3/4" larger groups at 10 yards. My P-09 shoots better with my 124 gr handloads vs my 147 gr handloads. Never tried factory ammo in it. One thing I'm sure of; everytime I shoot them I love them more. Under-rated.
  16. Dave, that is stunning.
  17. Steel frame?! Now I want a PCR.
  18. PCR lacks the rail and the NATO Stock Number (NSN), not sure if anything else is different.
  19. My P-07 is more accurate than my P-01 was. My P-09 is equal to the P-01. I sold the P-01 two years ago and still regret it. Recoil is extremely subjective, you'd need to shoot both guns at the same time, with the same loads, doing the same drills, multiple times to have any meaningful data, even then it is subjective. Same as how some prefer 147 gr to 124. I prefer 124.
  20. Cajun Gun Works 92030 short reset kit. I put it in mine. Makes a world of difference. http://cajungunworks.com/p-07_p-09_omega_hammer_kit.html
  21. I made me SA pull crisper by shortening the hammer hooks. I used a file, a mic and lots of time and measuring. I bent my trigger bar spring down. You can go quite a bit. If you go too far, you'll know it. The trigger won't reset. You can bend it without disassembly by spinning it into the mag well and making the tweaks. It made a difference in DA. No change in SA.
  22. I just finished the trigger job in my new P-09 last night. I polished everything, tweaked the trigger bar spring to lessen the DA stacking, removed 0.008" from the hammer hooks and used the items listed below. I don't have a trigger gauge so I'll have to borrow one, but the DA is sweet and short. The reset is nice and the SA is less than my 1911 Range Officer which pulls at 3.0 lbs. I am guessing SA is 2.5 or so. It is really crisp and tight. CGW Extended Firing Pin and Spring CGW Blue Hammer Spring CGW Short Reset Kit CGW Trigger Return Spring I likely won't be able to shoot it until this weekend or maybe early next week as I am waiting for the F/O sights to come in, but dry fire has me excited about the end result.
