Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I switch from 180 to 200gr bullets about half way through this years season and i wont ever go back to 180. 200gr black bullets is where its at. Very soft and very manageable recoil. Im loading them over WST and it makes for a mean combo and makes major easily.
  2. A Buddy of mine just bought the Elite Stock II pistol in 38 super. This gun is a limited gun not an open gun. Has anyone put together some loads for the 38 super limited set up? Or do any of you have suggestions on powder? My buddy has 125 gr hornady bullets we are going to load. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  3. Do you have the stock STI poly trigger in your gun? If so, I had the same problem and I noticed it while dry firing. I tried a bunch of different things and couldn't figure it out. What i did and it worked for me and i haven't had the problem since, was adjusted the over travel screw in the trigger OUT about a half a turn and i haven't had the problem since. Hopefully this helps you.
  4. 1.190 Black Bullets International 180gr.
  5. Pat, the trigger resets every time. I wonder if some how the trigger bow got bent. I bought the gun brand new in February and its ran like a champ right out of the box. This is the first issue I've encountered. The gun still fires but when your pulling extremely hard shots start flying where you don't want them to. With area 1 next week I'm hoping for a quick fix!!
  6. While at the range the other day I began to notice that my trigger every once in a while was extremely hard to pull (I shoot a STI Edge 40S&W with a stock trigger no after market parts). That night I went home and cleaned my gun and started doing dry fire drills and noticed that two of my magazines (empty of course) are causing the heavy pull of the trigger. When I say heavy I mean I have to squeeze really hard like it has a 15 pound trigger. My other 3 mags feel fine. Does anyone have any kind of solution for fixing this problem or know why the magazine would make the trigger pull really heavy? Thanks.
  7. zzt, they still smell over n340. I load 5.3 gr n340, 180gr BBI at 1.1850, gives me 170 PF and they shoot awesome. They do smell but not bad enough to bother me. I'm a fan of BBI !
  8. My CRP came with just one of Dawson's basic guide rods. I bought their tool less and am using and it works great especially for breaking down the gun.
  9. Went to the range today to test the springs I put in my gun, 12# recoil and 17# main spring. Gun shot and felt the exact same. So I'm guessing Dawson precision put these springs in the gun when I ordered it. I'm going to call on Monday and ask just to be sure. If they did it would have been nice to know before I bought a new guide rod and springs.
  10. Just got back from the range shooting both BBI and Xtreme. I chronod the Xtremes and am coming up with much less velocity with the same powder charge as my BBI 180's. Xtremes 180 over 5.5 gr n340 is averaging 866fps where as my BBI average 949fps. Not sure why that is, I expected a little difference but not that much. With that being said I really like my BBI load. Shot about 200 rounds and they all felt great.
  11. zzt, I didn't think there would be much of a difference either. I'll be testing more tomorrow and hopefully these will be more constant.
  12. Thanks for the input. I'm just going to leave them how they are. I'm starting to get use to it and building up some callouses. As long as the hammer is down it feels good to grap them and rack the slide. If the hammer is up is when I leave skin in the serrations. It's tough to rack the slide if hammer is up. I'm sure it just needs broken in.
  13. I've shot a lot of Xtremes bullets and really like them. I had good luck with their 9mm hp, fn, & rn bullets. I've just recently started shooting their 40 S&W 180 gr flat nose and like them so far. I've also been loading BBI and like them as well. I'll probably lean towards BBI just based off price. They do smoke a little but not bad. Both seem to be accurate. You'll like which ever you go with.
  14. I absolutely love my STI Edge 40 S&W hard chromed CRP package from Dawson Precision. I've had it for a little more than a month and have about 700 rounds through it so far. It being my first 2011 exceeds all my expectations and more. It shoots like a dream. When I got the gun I also ordered a Dawson tool less guide rod to swap out the recoil master, when I got the gun home i took it apart and noticed there was no recoil master but just a basic guide rod. The recoil master was in a bag along with other parts. Is it part of their package to replace the recoil master? I didn't see it anywhere on their website. No idea what pound recoil spring was installed by them but I decided to run it during the break in period. I bought a wolf 12# recoil spring as well as a 17# main spring, I installed them and the gun feels the exact same from just racking the slide and cocking the hammer. I really wanted a lighter main spring because it is somewhat difficult to rack the slide when the hammer is up. Will a lighter main spring help with this? I'm going to the range tomorrow to test and see if it shoots any different with the recoil spring I added. Would Dawson have put a 12# recoil spring in the gun as well as the 17# main spring? Have any of you bought one of their CRP packages and had the same experience? Did they hook me up or is this standard from them? Thanks.
  15. So far i'm really liking the n340. Its really clean and seems to shoot fairly soft, meters well (that says a lot coming from an RCBS pro 2000). I've tested 3-4 different loads and am settling for 5.3 gr n340, 180 gr BBI, OAL 1.850, PF 171. I might try and drop it into the 169 PF range but for now that will be my load. I also loaded some 180 gr xtreme FN and my velocities were a lot slower than the BBI. 5.3 gr with xtreme 180 was averaging around 875. I've made some more test loads with xtreme 180 but haven't shot them yet. Ill post the load data and results when I do.
