  1. I've been having problems with primers upside down or 1/4 turned in my SDB since a change over from 45 ACP to 40 S&W. I've been losing about 10%. Dillon has worked with me on the primer feed and sent me a new complete primer feed for small primers. The new primer feed reduced my fail rate but I still failed too many. Today I borrowed a shell holder plate from a friend who also loads 40 S&W. PROBLEM SOLVED! I had ONE failed load in 300. I'm happy. It appears the primer cup was catching on the rough edge on the shell holder plate. I'll be visiting Dillon on my next trip to PHX to get it replaced.
  2. Just scored an older sealed 8# 4756 from a shot shell loader. I load mostly .40 & .45. Suggestions??
  3. I built my bench for standing so it is fairly tall. Now I have to sit so I use an adjustable bar stool. I do not use a strong mount.
  4. When I load 40 S&W from purchased range brass on my SDB, I usually single size them with my RCBS single stage to get rid of the Glock bulge.
  5. I get a few rocks and it does "dump" on occasion. This old fat guy likes it!
  6. I change fairly often. I do have a dedicated primer feed for large and small primers and an extra tool head so I don't need to move the dies. Not a big deal
  7. DWR461 My primer failure rate is 2-3 per hundred. Can you expand your comments on how you improved your rate? I just installed a new primer feed sent to my by Dillon. It did help, but I'm still getting a flipped or sideways on occasion.
  8. I bought range brass to load my 40 S&W. Using a SDB I had about 30% fail to pass the gauge. I single sized a couple hundred rounds with my RCBS carbide die, then loaded with the SDB. My fail rate dropped to about 5%. My caliper indicates about .002" larger. The "no go" rounds seem to go thru my M&P hand cycling. I'll get to the range in a few days to try the "no go" rounds.
  9. I have 2 separate primer feeds, 1 set up for large, 1 for small. Takes about 3 minutes to swap out. Quick and simple. YMMV! PJ
  10. Hello from New Mexico. I'm an old guy with a lot of reloading experience who got out of shooting and reloading 10+ years ago due to some health issues. Now that I'm feeling better, I've started shooting again and uncovered the old Dillon SDB and my single stage press. I'm working back into reloading slowly. Fortunately I had a good supply of components! I'm trying to use up the powders that I have in stock which has required me to develop some new loads. Glad to find this group! Paul James
