.38 spl Wadcutter seating on Square Deal
pjames32 replied to Phoenix1977's topic in Dillon Precision Reloading Equipment
Glad you have a seating stem coming. In the future you can modify a seating stem with epoxy or JB Weld. For wadcutters I usually just file or grind a seating stem flat. I use an SDB for nearly 30 years before my wife bought me a 650. Good little loader! -
Caliber Changes on Dillon 650
pjames32 replied to JohnnyD's topic in Dillon Precision Reloading Equipment
5-10 minutes after you do it a few times. With the same size primers, it's a breeze. -
Update on my post. Problem 1 was solved with Loctite blue after a conversation with Dillon. Problem 2 was partially solved by belling the cases 0.015". I had fewer rejects, but still too many. I tried epoxy in the bullet seater...…….it did not set up so I cleaned the seater and tried JB weld. It is partially set up now and the bullet I placed in it did release. Once it hardens 24 hours I'll give it a try. If the bullet fits a little off center I'll chuck it in the lathe and modify it to center. FWIW I am NOT a machinist, but can do simple stuff. It looks like I may have a similar problem when I set up for 40 S&W. At least I now know what to look for. Thanks for all the input! Paul

I moved up to a 650 from a SDB a few months ago. Loaded 45ACP first with no major issues (1200 rounds). I've recently changed it to small primers and set up a tool head for 9mm with Dillon dies. I did use the primer alignment tool. First problem is the priming stage. The tab that holds the case in position will not stay tight against the case. I align it and tighten it up and 15-20 rounds later I'm having to tap SOME of the cases to get the primer to seat. I load slow so that is not a big issue, just nagging. Should I use Loctite? Second problem is more troublesome. I just ran 250 rounds. Mixed cases (none military or with the step inside) 4.6gr AA #5 and my own cast 128gr bullets (sized .356). They are a TC design with a bevel base lubed with Carnauba Red. Out of 250 I have 17 that fail to go in the case gauge. Of those 17 only one passed the plunk test in my Shield barrel and none passed in my 9mm 3" EMP. I've tried to vary the COAL with no improvement. The failed rounds were not all 1 brand of case. I need some help please. I did not have this problem with my 9mm loads in my SDB. Thanks!! Paul

Snowshooze gone from ebay?
pjames32 replied to quietmike's topic in Dillon Precision Reloading Equipment
He has posted on the Dillon Users Group on Facebook the last couple days. He said he has to "make up" with Amazon to get his stuff relisted. He has been re-tooling and solving some problems. He will be back! -
650 toolhead questions + some other ?
pjames32 replied to pjames32's topic in Dillon Precision Reloading Equipment
Tom...........Thanks for that reminder! Having a case feeder is a new thing for me switching from an SDB. I've been decapping with my Harvey while watching TV. I can do a few hundred an hour during commercials. -

I do use a "Harvey" decapper before cleaning my brass-works great if you have time. I stopped at Dillon's world HQ yesterday. Bought a casefeeder and some caliber changes to get me started. Still need to buy 3 toolheads. After I sell my SDB's I'll buy the rest of the goodies. Thanks for all the input and advise. -
Wife bought me a 650 for Christmas. It has everything in the base package for 45ACP except dies. I have RCBS dies at home so I'm ready for 45ACP. Are the aftermarket toolheads of good quality? I see them on E Bay and on the Dillon Exchange on Facebook. I want to set up 3 other set-ups for 9mm, 40S&W and 38Special. We are in Phx so I'll pay Dillon a visit tomorrow for a casefeed, 9mm die set, small parts kit and toolheads/changeover kits for the calibers I need. I have 7/8 X 14 dies for everything else and have 2 Dillon powder measures. I'm changing over from 2 SDB's and plan to sell them when we get home. Thx in advance for your input.

Santa wife gave me the 650 invoice for Christmas. Machine was sent to my neighbor at home. I'll visit Dillon tomorrow since we are in PHX. I'm starting another post with some questions. -

Thanks for the replies. Sorry if I confused people with the RCBS dies. I've had them since my single stage days purchased in the 60's and 70's. Looks like a casefeeder will be high on the list.
