I turn 50 this year. Have been shooting for 3 years now the 47 years prior to that no gun handling at all didn't own one. I have learned alot over the last 3 years that I wish i'de learned when I was much younger. Goal setting, how to practice, and quality of practice. Matter of fact I wish I'de learned about this sport 20 years ago.
Lanny Basham says if you practice once a week your likely to get worse not better, I believe him. You need to do good quality practice a minimun of 3 times a week 5 is best with at least 1 live fire practice with set things you are going to practice, groups, transitions, bill drills etc. Don't just sling 200 rounds at a target 30 ft. away. If cost is a factor you can practice everything except actually putting holes in the target through dry fire.
During the shooting season I shoot approx. 1000 rounds a month (practice and matches) and dryfire alot. I am a C class shooter with 3 plaques for 2006 even won a slot to nationals this year. And I plan on bringing home a trophy from Tulsa. Did I mention I'm 50 5'11" 268 lbs (50 lbs overweight) If I can do it you can do it. It just takes practice and dedication
