  1. Hope its OK to add info here.... I got my Caldwell in on tuesday, and crappy weather allowed me to take wed off to test some load development I've been working on. I'm new to all this in the reloading world, but have been working up some loads on 9mm and 45 so far... I'm sure you'll all tell me that Its OK to add a little more powder to my loads, shooting lead right now, and the book gave me a very conservative gr amounts low and high, 2.5 - 2.8, plus I want to run suppressed alot. Well obviously I needed a Chrono to test, so I figured with the new release of this app based unit I would give it a try.... I bought the simple kit, as I didn't need any more tripods, I have a few. Took my Nexus 7 tablet and Galaxy S4. kept getting errors with the tablet with connection, I'll have to figure out what the deal is on that. Switched to my S4 and it was up and running. I'm very happy with the results, It would be nice if they could add a couple more features in the app, but I'm sure those will come. Like the ability to make a new group, or a bunch of groups prior to shooting and then open a saved group and begin using them to collect data. Therefore one doesn't have to sit and type in info out in the field which becomes cumbersome. When you first open the app, the "0 FPS" is Red in color, upon your device being connected to the Chrono - it will turn black so you know your connected and ready to go..... RED means NO GO... Perhaps they could make the connected color GREEN ! The little picture of the mic up top is to disconnect from the Chrono. I like that they have a page with the multiple saved strings you shot as an overview, then you can select one of them to get the results individually. And also you can choose to show more or less info, basically "Description" or with "Notes" also. When you select show more, you cannot fit the whole page in a screen shot, if you have too many shots recorded. Sharing you can send an email or txt message, which results in a very basic bare info layout. All in all, my first Chrono, and first time ever using a Chrono and it went pretty darn well and was easy to use. I'm sure someone with come forward with a comparison of other units before I can with my friends unit. Not sure if he has a Pro Chrono - or it was a Chrony.... Hope this helps.... Saved Groups Overview TXT Message to myself, looks the same as email. http://s34.photobucket.com/user/Warpdrv/library/Reloading/Caldwell%20Cronograph
  2. Hahhahah def the best way to go - small and large... Now you have to spend more on small and large RF100's....
  3. Well I have loaded up almost 1000 primers on each and the vibrapime is pretty good..... not without its hiccups..... For those on a budget it'll serve one pretty well..... I figured while I'm fresh into it I'll suck it up and try to work my engineering magic if possible.... That being said, having spent some time with loading with dual RF100's I'm pretty much sold. THAT IS THE SOUND OF INEVITABILITY !
  4. Ordered one of these, I like the new Android connectivity to help me log and develop loads. Looking forward to testing it out. Thanks for the review. Any further info would be welcome THAT IS THE SOUND OF INEVITABILITY !
  5. I saw a video of a guy that modded his Vibra Prime, thought I'd give it a try, so I bought two of them, one for large and one for small, couldn't really beat the price on sale. Made some changes to the mods for mine. Here's the link... http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=192866&p=2150632 Here's the video
  6. Agreed..... call the factory... HKParts is convienient and all, but they have like a 200% mark up, and huge money for shipping charges... They are making it hand over fist over there.... HECKLER & KOCH 5675 Transport Boulevard Columbus, Georgia 31907 USA Tel: (706) 568-1906 Fax: (706) 568-9151 E-mail: cs@heckler-koch-us.com Give them a call, they have always taken great care of me over the phone. If something is out of stock they will let ya know... What exactly are you looking for ?!?!
  7. Take a look at ACME Bullet They have brass & lead cast at very good prices, shipping in boxes they make to P.O. Flat Rate shipping sizes... http://www.acmebullet.com/bullets 92% lead, 2% tin, 6% antimony - Brinell Hardness 16 They are close to me, so I just drive over there no shipping....
  8. Yeah it was the set screw, which in fact the threads were locked up tight inside there. In had to pour some penetrating oil, let it sit for a while, then use a pliers on the Allen wrench to break it loose. Now it's totally adjustable and set properly. I hate how neglected this machine was but she's running smooth now. THAT IS THE SOUND OF INEVITABILITY !
  9. I meant 1 for each size.... Plural Hey my time is worth plenty, this took me 20 mins to mod for both I can easily afford and maybe someday I'll get the RF100. Guess you can't make everyone happy.....
  10. A little update, ordered up a couple of these but took it a bit further then the guy in the video.... Thought I'd share.... I have 2 - 650's one setup for large primers and one for small so I figured, rather then mess with switching over for loading tubes for small and large, may as well get two and have a dedicated for each... they were on sale at midway for relatively cheap compared to the RF100's The needed a bit of gentle massaging to get the couple of burrs out of the raceway, but a small file and an undersized drill bit they were working fine with the tubes they came with.... I cut the tubes short and taped the hose on the end, so you can just push the dillon tubes right up in there. Just file the end smooth to take off the hanging chads, and run a drill smaller then the tube on the inside to smooth that out as well.... Blocked off the opposite primer hole with tape so when you shake the primers they don't fall out that side, I might drop some hot glue but this seems to work just fine. Problem with the Vibra Prime is that you have to take the tube off and pull the tray out to get the cover off every time you want to load primers. Thats stupid IMO....Below you can see the photo on the right if you just file this section down on a taper like I did, you can twist the top and slide it off easily without removing the whole tray. Like so Tops are not very tight, a small clamp keeps things together so there are no spillages. Since I don't plan on removing the tubes, I wrapped some electrical tape around the plastic locking nut, so it won't accidentally come loose. Right off the bat, just like in the video, slide the dillon tubes up under and away you go - I loaded up 4 small and 4 large primer tubes in a few minutes... worked great, I'm thrilled not to have to pay $600+ for the RF100's. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have them but I think this works great for cheap.... Hope this helps Patrick
  11. Nevermind, got it now THAT IS THE SOUND OF INEVITABILITY !
  12. OK - I have another question for you guys..... on my "13242 Primer Station Locator Tab" (page 55 of the manual) when I remove the shell plate - the tab flys open and the spring wants to go flying if I'm not careful. it seems that I am missing something to "keep it together here" hahahha I have the instruction manual, but i'm not clear on what retains the arm from flying open..... Is it the set screw needs to be unscrewed from the hole to stop the movement..... !?!?!!? thanks for your help with "the new guy" Patrick
  13. I ordered a couple, I'm going to mod mine like this guy did. Frankford Arsenal Vibra prime upgraded: I thought Id use one for small primers and one for large. That way you can just epoxy the extra un used open primer hole closed. So no spillage while shaking the tray. THAT IS THE SOUND OF INEVITABILITY !
  14. Thanks for that tip..... still learning, love all the tips and tricks...
  15. Thank you for this thread, New reloading bench for me, def need to add a couple more extinguishers in the loading room as well. THAT IS THE SOUND OF INEVITABILITY !
  16. Yeah - when exactly is that going to happen, and how many are going to be avail when they do ? I'm honestly curious.... I have a feeling they will be snatched up quite quickly from people wanting something new in their collection. Agree with Steven - have you run an LEM trigger or thought about a LEM / Match Hybrid trigger.....
  17. I honestly had no clue that was an option, but I really don't mind taking care of it myself. I love getting to know the mechanics of it. THAT IS THE SOUND OF INEVITABILITY !
  18. Ok I bought a used Dillon 650 for a decent price, it was pretty beat up, and we massaged it a bit to get it working pretty well but not perfect. When we got it, the indexing ring was broken, we replaced it.... Should platform and tool head be re-aligned with the replacement of the index ring ?
  19. Thank you THAT IS THE SOUND OF INEVITABILITY !
  20. Thanks, still getting things together. On the down side, my 9mm shell plate is broken. Dispatched and email to Dillon but I don't know how long the wait is for replacement parts and as everyone knows the phone line there is like a state farm commercial.... 15th caller Jimmy If anyone knows where I can pick up an extra I'm interested. THAT IS THE SOUND OF INEVITABILITY !
  21. Hello, this site has been a huge help, pretty much instrumental for me to get started in reloading. I've been reading, researching here and much the interwebs for years and known down the line that id be reloading with as much as as my shooting/weapons accumulation has increased. Pulled the trigger on a used semi beat up 650, got some help from someone recently befriended that knows these machines inside and out, helped me get her going. Soon I was convinced from the mass setup they have with their plethora of 650's and 1050's for testing products (Don't ask), that it'd be easier for me get up and running on a small primer/large primer setup, so i picked a second. Been getting the reloading room ready for a while now.... Figured Id post up some pics (to say thanks) still have a lot of work to do. Any suggestions welcome. Edit, guess I have to wait to post pics. If Brian is reading this, "Elephant Talk" Huge fan. Thanks for all the great knowledge and help here, always appreciate it. Patrick
