  1. On the USPSA Area 5 website, registered users can upload photos to their own to the Photo Gallery. There's roughly 500MB of space allocated for photos and I'd be thrilled to see everyone uploading their digital pics to the site. If someone doesn't want to upload them all theirselves, ZIP or RAR them up and email to webmaster@uspsa-area5.org and I can batch add them. Wouldn't it be nice to show how great the Ohio sectional was by having a bunch of wheelgunners on the front of the Area 5 site?
  2. While it may be alright for people coming 5 or 6 hours away, ones that are 2 or 3 hours it hurts in my opinion. Two or three hour driving is just past the verge whether to stay the night before or not. The one day format saves those who cannot afford the trip the option of not spending an extra $75 on a room. People coming from long distances to matches, some may not be able to afford two nights in a hotel. I'd rather not lose my rhythm of stopping halfway through the match. It seems the faster I get through the stages, the better. Solution: Get motels that don't have moldy walls or cockroaches to lower their prices so that the average Joe can afford them. Dumping $75 + 13% tax is getting rediculous.
  3. Could you please be more specific? I've not found any broken links nor had any reports since the initial launch a few days ago with URLs having two frontslashes in them. Thanks
  4. I've had a few PMs about not being able to get to the site. If you get errors such as "Page can not be displayed" or "http://www.uspsa-area5.org can not be found, please check the name and try again" then the error isn't on your end. The DNS records for the old site haven't been updated yet. Normally it takes 24-48 hours after a change before everyone can see the site. Please do not be alarmed, just try again tomorrow. The majority of ISPs have uppdated their records already. Tech lesson for the day: Networks don't understand domain names (eh: www.yahoo.com), they only understand numerical addresses. The DNS translates a .com address into a numerical address that your ISP uses to find where the website is stored.
  5. http://www.uspsa-area5.org I would like to welcome everyone to the new area 5 website! It has undergone some major changes, all of which is for the better! The only hitch from transferring the old site to the new one is that the user database and forums were lost because of software incompatibility. You will need to re-register if you wish to post in the forums. Other things down the road may require that users to be registered in order to view or participate in them. If anyone has any questions, comments, concerns, or find something on the site broken, I do ask that you email me at webmaster@uspsa-area5.org! Thanks Note: In case you are unable to visit the site (getting site not found/DNS errors), your ISP's records have not updated yet. Please try again later in the day or tomorrow.
  6. http://www.blade-tech.com/frontend?command...ProductId=53865 Blade-Tech has an awesome little deal going for $39 Injection molded holster (RH only) and mag pouch both of which have Tek-Lok attachments. An optional paddle is included for the holster. You cannot beat the Blade-Tech injection molded mag pouches for the money. Unlike the Uncle Mike's or Fobus ones I've used, these will retain the mags while being held upside down, yet you are still able to take the mags out with little-to-no effort at all.
  7. I wouldn't call it the most challenging. After doing 20 or 30 seconds on that Save My Baby then heading over to what looks to be Radarish 2, thinking, "hey I need to makeup some of these points" and you blow through it with a pair of mikes, its like you're ready to pack up and go home Back to the old "drawing" board, Mr. Stevens, I need more coaching
  8. This one one of my poorest stages, the entire stage could be shot from two positions except for one target...which I just happened to get. Two mikes + a FTE hurts...I wanted to throw that carseat up in the air and shoot it down like skeet after that.
  9. While that's all well and good, some ranges are out in the middle of nowhere with little or no cellular reception...thus rendering them only as an expensive calculator. Looks like one could buy an older generation Palm/Handspring device for as little as $35-50, add a free piece of software and you've got a nice little tool for the match. No pencil to break or ink pen to leak all over your new Shooter's Connection range bag
  10. Does anyone pack their Palm devices around with them to matches? A lot more convenient than having to wait until you're home to check the classification. I was sitting here brainstorming to put one together for all classes, similar as the one I currently have for production. Since I only shoot Production right now, there's not a huge motivation to create it for the other four classes. This one written currently is for the older Palm OS (my PDA is a Handspring Visor, yes the origional one) using the Appforge Crossfire VB.NET addon. If anyone wants the production one, PM me, you will need to install the Appforge Crossfire library onto your PDA but it should still deploy to the newer ones without issue. ...Now if I can just find a way around this trial version crap without throwing enough $ out the window in license fees to buy one of the Braznos blasters!
  11. EV1 isn't known for high quality stuff, if you're wanting that, Verio or The Planet is more of a place to host. Good enough though...ever given thought to colo rather than leasing a server? (If not already colo) On a side note, RAID 5 would be the best way to go, at least 3 disks on say a 3Ware (ifd were using SATA 150) card. That way that if any physical hardware issues arise with any of the discs, it could easily be swapped for a replacement and you can rebuild the array without much hassle. ---- On a side note since the acronym "RAID" is being thrown around, it stands for Redunant Array of Independent Disks. Basically instead of all of a file being stored on one disk, only parts of it are put on each disk. How the data is stored depends on the type of RAID Used. Some are RAIDs fault taulerant, while others are not. One version of RAID, RAID 0, just splits the data between two drives, if one drive fails you lose all data. Take that against say RAID 5, the parity bits are distributed over the drive array so if one were to fail, you can rebuild the data on that drive using the parity bits contained on the other drives.
  12. www.pistol-gear.com Magwell, slam pads, "real" guide rods, amongst a ton of other XD things.
  13. The mag catch is on the front of the XD mags, Beretta mags are on the side. Nothing a few minutes with a dremel cannot fix though.
  14. You simply can not go wrong with Rich's work. His turnaround time being less than a week makes it very easy to have the work done and the pistol returned during the week between matches. I believe his specs are 1/8" travel until the break, then 1/8" more until the overtravel stop hits. My shooting improved...well I don't know how to describe it...maybe ask Gary Stevens how horrible my shooting was before sending it off to Rich.
  15. You won't have any issues buying parts from xd-hs2000 nor pistol-gear, superb service from both. Usually they ship the same/next day. I've ordered several things from them
  16. The problem lies within SA's faulty first generation extractors. I know myself, soon as I got my pistol home I was having FTE issues. The old extractor was made from a softer metal, the newer one is made from a harder metal and designed just a wee bit different. (Disassembly link with photos] It may have a hiccup but at the rate SA is producing these things right now, give them a bit of leeway. Look at it this way, you won't find another gun that can perform like the XD to run in Production (when you've got an extractor that works! lol) for $400 cash and carry.
