  1. Update: So the paperwork EAA sent back said the only work done was the recoil spring swap... I just looked at the slide lock lever, and it's new! I had done a bit of filing on the groove where the detent/return spring contacts the cross-pin on the slide lock. What came back in my gun was definitely NOT the one that went there with it. Not sure if it just got mixed up on the bench, or if they're trying to hide the fact that the part was defective. Either way, it seems to bee good to go now, and I can start playing with the trigger more. Thinking about a new Extreme DA trigger, plus one-piece sear.
  2. I will warn you that they probably won't pay to ship it back, so be ready to pay to overnight it. They were very fast for mine though... Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk
  3. Contrary to internet legend, I have had good experiences with EAA customer service both times I've had to deal with them. I was the original owner each time, but they seem to do better than they did 5-10 years ago... Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk
  4. A word of caution on cranking down on the set screw. There isn't a bunch of material under the set screw. The one on my stock 1 actually started pushing the steel in the slide down into the barrel... Not much, but enough that you can see the deformation on the side when you pull the barrel out. I sanded it down and sanded the point off the bottom of the set screw, and no more issues. Just something to be aware of. Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk
  5. Yeah, those mag release plungers are easyt to lose. Another likely candidate for a high velocity disappearing act is a front takedown detent for an AR... Seen more than one head for low earth orbit while assembling lowers... Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk
  6. Yes, they sent back the 20 pound spring with the gun. The only possibility I can think of is that the slide lock is moving under recoil. With the 20 pound spring, maybe the slide was returning fast enough to catch the slide lock before the slide lock spring returned the lock to its open position. Maybe with the lighter spring the lock he's time to get back out of the way. That's the only scenario I could think of where they might be related. Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk
  7. Well, I completely agree and was/am sceptical, and that's why I asked for video evidence and least 3 malfunction free mags on their end before shipping it back. But so far I've not seen the malfunctions I was getting before. I can't see any evidence of other work done while there. Same slide stop, and as far as I can tell, the same slide stop spring. 8. Thanks, I'm already running the Henning guide rod. I'll look into the shock buff. How long do they usually last? Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk
  9. OK, I finally broke down and sent the gun back to EAA. they had it all of 2 days and called to send it back, supposedly fixed. I asked what they had done, and all they did was swap my Wolff 20 lbs recoil spring back to a factory weakling... I asked them to put at least 3 mags through it before sending it back. They did so and even videoed it and sent me a link to see for myself before shipping it back. I figured I'd get it back and keep having issues. For whatever reason, that actually seems to have done the trick! I put over 100 rounds through the gun this weekend malfunction free! That included light target loads through hot SD and woods loads. Previously I couldn't get through 2 mags without it locking back with rounds in the mag. We'll see if it lasts. Next question, with the light factory spring, what can I do about frame battering with the hotter loads? Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk
  10. I had something similar happen on my Ruger GP100. The best fix I found was to pull the pin out and give it a very slight bend. This effectively spring loads the pin, retaining it. Might work for your limited sight too. Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk
  11. the only thing I can think of that might cut that thin of a line would be a laser, maybe.
  12. (edited for clarity) Pics are above, on this page. Definitely not as large as the stock 2 photo, looks more like a hairline fracture, but it is on both sides in the same area. even if it is a crack, it can't grow anymore, and it's not a safety issue. interesting though that they tended to crack in that spot. 13. Ok, so back to the drawing board with reliability then. Thanks. Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk
  14. Say what? It sure doesn't look intentional to me, they aren't straight or clean. How do you make a cut that narrow? I totally get the stress relief principle, but that doesn't seem like a high stress area. I wonder why the old pistols would develop cracks there? But ok, i feel like a bit of a doofus right now. 15. I will be sending the gun back to EAA. I just disassembled the gun fully to do an action polish job, and found 2 cracks on the frame just behind the mag release. they are through & through on both sides from the rear of the mag catch on into the mag well. it's cracked in such a way that it cant get any worse, and I don't see how it could be a safety issue or cause my issues, but I'm sick of dealing with it. I'm this close to getting a glock. bleh. this is the second witness 10mm I've found cracks on. the first was a basic Witness Steel, and the slide cracked at the rear of the ejection port. I was really hoping that upgrading to the elite line would eliminate my issues. Now I have to re-install the factory parts and hope EAA doesn't fuss about the slightly filed slide stop. unfortunately, my factory spring, guide-rod, and front sight are at home, so I won't be able to deal with it for another 6 weeks, which means I won't have a gun for any more 3-gun matches once I'm home, unless I want to use my M&P Shield... Maybe I should just ask them to replace it with a 9mm version and buy the glock for the heavy 10mm. but I don't like glocks! thanks for letting me vent.
  16. well, I made a blank cross-pin out of a #8 drill bit, so it eliminates the slide-lock feature entirely. it functions great like this, it's just got a big ugly hole where the stop used to go into to frame. I would only use it like this in competition, as I can't lock it open, and there are lots of times I'd like to be able to. I had a thought about another possible remedy. when I bought the wolff 20 lb spring, it came with a heavier hammer spring. I didn't bother installing it, as I didn't want to increase the trigger pull. if I put a heavier hammer spring in, it should slow the slide more before it "bottoms out" at the rear of the travel, right? it might be just enough to solve the premature lock-back. the only thing I can figure is that the sudden stop at the rear is enough that inertia alone is moving the slide-lock rear-ward (up, while udner recoil). of course, I'm still traveling, so won't be able to test my theory till August...
  17. Well, haven't had a chance to video it at the range yet . I thought I had it fixed, but I guess not. I used it in a 3 gun match 2 weeks ago, because it's what I had. I had 4 or 5 times that it locked back on me with rounds in the mag. I only fired about 70 rounds total during the match. Definitely frustrating. I'm going to be out of town till July starting next week, so this will have to wait. Was hoping to take it with me for woods carry, but I can't trust it, so the GP-100 is getting the nod. 18. That's possible, and there aren't too many video reviews of these, so maybe two birds, one stone type of thing. Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk
  19. They look fine. I will have to see how the gun does next time to see what it looks like for reliability. Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk
  20. The groove is deep enough that I can't push the stop it with just my finger. I need something hard to push with, like the back of a mag. Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk
  21. Gun is only a year old, spring is probably 9 months, and 500 rounds. It's a Wolff 20lb. Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk
  22. yep, earlier I posted that it happens even if I shoot lefty, one-handed. I know that one, as I've done it on my smaller carry guns and had to adjust my grip. thanks though.
  23. Nope, the rounds can't move forward enough to contact the slide lock until they are at the top of the mag, where the feed lips prevent much side to side motion. I removed the slide & reinstalled the slide stop, then tested it with a loaded mag. I even stuck a pen in there to force the second round towards the slide stop while manually stripping the top round out of the mag. It could maybe just touch the side of the stop, but I had to REALLY try to make it do it. best guess so far is that the spring was too weak, and snappy recoil imparted enough energy to the slide lock lever that it rotated under its own momentum. when i bent the spring, the issues improved. I'm going to try bending it just a bit more, and run at least 100 rounds through it on the next range trip.
