  1. Sweet! So i can go ahead & buy the 10mm Stock 1, but not be stuck with $300 barrels or $700 conversions!
  2. ok, so the base model barrels won't fit the Stock 1. how about a base model slide? can i run that slide in a Stock 1 or Match?
  3. So can i run a base model witness slide in a Stock 1 frame? (say 9mm slide in my originally 10mm frame) or can i run a base model .40 barrel in my Stock 1? $80 for the 40 barrel from numrich is a lot better than $309 for a new Stock 1 barrel from EAA...
  4. custom grips from this guy... http://www.czgrips.us/eaa_witness_tanfoglio.htm I plan on picking up either a Match or Stock 1 soon, & will probable get a set of the black laminate grips...
  5. Good luck with your shield. hopefully, the differences I've found are actually the root of the problem! Our local Walmart has a 3 box limit, & they actually have most everything but 22... I found some WWB 100rd packs for $24! that's almost below the "normal" price! I bought 300 rds even though I reload...
  6. looking at the 2 pics of the different feed ramps, I'd think you'd just be able to look at it on the individual gun at the store & tell if it's going to be a problem. I'm actually moving in the opposite direction as far as action system is concerned. I wtarted with an M&P, then went to the Kahr CW9, & shield, but I also have a 10mm 1911 now & am looking at the Sig p238 380 & Witness Elite Stock 10mm (CZ clone-ish). Good luck!
  7. yeah, i know. yet S&W's only caveat about +P ammo in the shield is the standard "+P ammunition will increase wear & shorten the life of the firearm..." statement. I think it's more of a QC issue at S&W as my buddy's Shield doesn't bulge using the same loads...
  8. @Gakracker: there is a 40 S&W version if you're feeling under-gunned with the 9mm...
  9. honestly, if they can get the chamber issue sorted out, I have no gripes with the gun. 100% reliable so far (300-400 rds) accurate, light recoil. I did get a chance to look at another 9mm shield chamber, & there is a visible difference in the feed ramp cut. that's my chamber & a properly cut chamber that does NOT bulge brass... S&W just sent me a shipping label, so it's heading home Monday...
  10. unfortunatley, I'm in the same position. I bought a brand new Shield 9mm in September, & it bulged my brass beyond salvation. sent it in, & when I got it back, the paperwork said they'd "modified" the barrel. not sure how you can modify an improperly machined barrel... anyway, it still bulges my brass. Can't tell any difference. light reloads, factory ammo, +p SD ammo. about 60% of the brass that goes thru the gun bulges, & 90% of the +p... I guess it's going back yet again, & I'll be specifically asking them to replace the barrel, & shoot some +p out of it... the real bummer is that the gun is far more accurate than I. this is an 8 shot (full mag) string from 7 yds. hope they can get it fixed.
  11. not sure which way you meat to indicate, if the stock has the same problem rounded slide, or if they are different than the standard witness slides (as far as the 10mm cracking problem...
  12. I looked around on various forums, & it seemed this place had the most relevant info on the "elite" series guns, so here I am! I am looking at picking up a Witness Elite Stock in 10mm, but was hoping to get some "insider info" on them first. I had a basic witness steel 10mm about 6 years ago, & the slide cracked after firing mostly CCI weak-sauce factory loads. No hot handloads, DT, Underwood or Buffalo Bore. EAA fixed it by installing the heavier “square” slide, & installed an ambi safety as an apology. That was nice & all, but the gun never ran right after that, so I sold it off & EAA left a bad taste in my mouth. I understand that the “elite” series guns come from the Tanfoglio custom shop, & are a whole different ball game compared to the base models. I like the look of the Stock; it seems to maintain the size & function of the original gun that fit my hand perfectly, & shot where I pointed it. However, it looks like the slide is of the rounded style. My primary question is about that. Is the Elite Stock slide beefier than the standard witness slides, or not? Will it still have issues with cracking, or have they dealt with that? My intended use is as a back-up while bow hunting & hiking, but maybe shoot local USPSA with it. The Elite Match, while cheaper is SAO, & has the long slide. I want something that can do double duty as a range/competition gun, but also be practical to carry (though not as a primary EDC gun). I realize the Glock 20/29 is an option, but they just don’t fit me well, & I’ve never been able to be as accurate with them as I am with other weapons (my M&P shield included…). I currently have one of the Rock Island 10mm 1911’s, & it’s on its way back to the factory for the second time. Once fixed, it will be up for sale too, once I figure out what I want to replace it with. So I guess bottom line, do the Elite Stock 10mm’s have the durability problems that the basic Witness 10mm’s had? Thanks for your insight!
