I looked around on various forums, & it seemed this place had the most relevant info on the "elite" series guns, so here I am!
I am looking at picking up a Witness Elite Stock in 10mm, but was hoping to get some "insider info" on them first.
I had a basic witness steel 10mm about 6 years ago, & the slide cracked after firing mostly CCI weak-sauce factory loads. No hot handloads, DT, Underwood or Buffalo Bore. EAA fixed it by installing the heavier “square” slide, & installed an ambi safety as an apology. That was nice & all, but the gun never ran right after that, so I sold it off & EAA left a bad taste in my mouth.
I understand that the “elite” series guns come from the Tanfoglio custom shop, & are a whole different ball game compared to the base models. I like the look of the Stock; it seems to maintain the size & function of the original gun that fit my hand perfectly, & shot where I pointed it. However, it looks like the slide is of the rounded style. My primary question is about that. Is the Elite Stock slide beefier than the standard witness slides, or not? Will it still have issues with cracking, or have they dealt with that?
My intended use is as a back-up while bow hunting & hiking, but maybe shoot local USPSA with it. The Elite Match, while cheaper is SAO, & has the long slide. I want something that can do double duty as a range/competition gun, but also be practical to carry (though not as a primary EDC gun).
I realize the Glock 20/29 is an option, but they just don’t fit me well, & I’ve never been able to be as accurate with them as I am with other weapons (my M&P shield included…).
I currently have one of the Rock Island 10mm 1911’s, & it’s on its way back to the factory for the second time. Once fixed, it will be up for sale too, once I figure out what I want to replace it with.
So I guess bottom line, do the Elite Stock 10mm’s have the durability problems that the basic Witness 10mm’s had?
Thanks for your insight!
