  1. Yep, inferred that in a previous post, but didn't directly state it. Rounds are not touching the slide stop, or anywhere near it. Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk
  2. Ok, after bending the spring, 180 gr and above seem reliable, but 155 gr still lock early occasionally. I couldn't run a bunch through it, so we'll have to see. Maybe bend the spring a bit more. Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk
  3. I think banzaicroc just misspoke, but the tool steel slide stop doesn't remove magazine release functionality, it eliminates slide lock and last shot hold open functionality. Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk
  4. You could practice your skip shooting... Or tannerite fishing. Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk
  5. Well the new slide stop spring came in so I decided to mod the old one. I put it in a vise and bent it a bit too increase the tension when installed. Saturday I'll be able to shoot it again, and see if it made a bit of difference. Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk
  6. well, I cycled over 100 rounds through the gun by hand with no malfunctions. all 3 mags, fast, slow, short stroke, full cycle. I even assembled the gun without the guide rod or recoil spring so I could really over control it. no issues whatsoever. at least I know it will feed every time no matter how much I ride the slide home. If the slide stop doesn't engage, it's 100% when firing. I have never had any other type of malfunction. Nothing looks out of place in the gun, all springs are present and in one piece. I guess I'll have to wait until the slide stop spring gets here and try it out again. if that doesn't work, I'll try a new slide stop. then it's off to EAA if those don't solve it. This was supposed to be my woods carry & occasional open carry gun, but I can't trust it to get more than 2 shots sequentially...
  7. Don't think so, but l I've got a spring coming, jic. I actually had a good experience with EAA cs. Had a wonder finish Steel in 10mm that crashed the slide (the scalloped ones). EAA replaced the slide with one from a Match, and gave me an ambi safety and extra mag for my trouble... But that was 8 years ago or so. Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk
  8. Not that I can remember. I'll try running several mags through by hand. Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk
  9. Good thought, but no, the slide lock is engaging the slide. I can drop the slide by using the release lever, or by racking it. Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk
  10. Not yet, they're $45, and before I just start throwing money at it, I was hoping there was an easy, cheap fix. worse comes to worse, I could just go to the EGW tool steel pin that eliminates the slide-lock function, but I'd rather not. http://www.egwguns.com/index.php?p=product&id=436
  11. I shot it righty, I shot it lefty, 2 hand, one hand, same results, so it is not me bumping the slide stop. the followers are nowhere near the slide stop when there are rounds in the mags. it's not an issue only on the last round or something, it's throughout, full mag, partial mag, or nearly empty, and the same with all 3 mags. With my grinding on the ejector and slide stop, I can't even send it back to EAA, can I?
  12. ok, I did file the slide stop pin detent a bit deeper, and that solved the problem of the slide stop walking out. I verified that the issue is NOT me. I tried going back to a lighter recoil spring, I tried different bullet weights, still getting multiple premature slide locks in a magazine. I'm waiting for the new slide stop spring, but it's gonna have to be significantly stiffer to exert enough force. the entire down-force on the slide stop comes from pushing on a small flat on the detent groove, so there is almost no leverage, or mechanical advantage. is this just an issue with the 10mm witness line, or did I just get the perfect storm?
  13. Ok, that could work. Any idea what height front that is designed to work with? Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk
  14. just wondering if anyone has the Henning fixed Target rear sight on their Match or Stock 1. I'd like to know the height from the top of the slide to the top of the rear sight. I have the Dawson .110 tall FO front, and want to know if I can modify the Henning rear sight to work with it. I'd rather not spend $40 on another front sight if I can just modify the rear. thanks!
  15. For once, EAA actually had the better price, $3... Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk
  16. Yes, occasionally the stop will work it's way out. Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk
  17. Another, unrelated problem is that the elevation adjustment on the lpa rest sight walks a good bit. The detent seems solid, but clearly isn't doing the job. Can I blue locktite the screw once it's just right? Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk
  18. Bullets are definitely not touching the slide lock. Is it possible that the recoil is sharp enough to move the slide lock on its own, meaning the retention/actuation spring is weak? Sent from my MotoG3 using Tapatalk
  19. Yeah, tried that. Seems like it did it slightly less, but still did it repeatedly shooting lefty.
  20. Been shooting my Stock 1 for about a year now, and at first had the occasional premature slide lock, and chalked it up to bumping the slide lock with my left hand. Now it's doing it every 3-4 rounds, and it definitely isn't just me. I don't think that the nose of the top round is pushing up one the slide lock. Only mods are a Henning cone fit guide rod, 20lb spring, and FO front sight. Any ideas?
  21. So I noticed that with any of the 3 mags i got with the gun that if I load them to the full 14 rds, they swell & the sides drag inside the mag well. I can getthe mags to slide past the point where they bind, but I have to consciously pull them out if they are full. with 2 of them, downloading to 13 rds prevents this, but on I have to downlaod to 11 rds before the mag stops dragging. is this a common problem, or is my mag well a bit tight? I noticed scratches where the paint is being scraped off on both sides of the mag just behind the vertical rib on the mag. if i leave the mags all loaded for a few weeks, will the mag springs take a new set & not cause the mags to swell? they are the black follower K10 mags.
  22. yeah, was planning on 20 lb spring & cone-fit guide rod. most of the ammo i shoot will be standard target loads, but I do intend to build up some 200 gr hardcast loads around 1200fps for woods defense, & some 155gr Gold dots around 1400 fps for social work, for the occasional times that i'll carry this gun. I am an airplane mechanic, so I've got the tools. the best way to pay for a gun is with a tax return, just don't tell our current administration that that's how we're using it!
  23. definitely like the Nills grips. you said they were for the CZ 97 originally. how much fitting did it take to get them right? how much girth does it add to the grip?
  24. just placed my order for a Stock 1 in 10mm! can't wait to get it out to the range & put it thru its paces. $815 out the door ain't too bad! Sorry, got excited as this is my first foray into the higher end Witness line. had a 10mm steel whith the scalloped slide that cracked on me. hopefully this will be a sight better.
