  1. Walnut/lizard litter, the corn cob I have seen would be to large I was using two screen strainers before I do 200 9mm or 5.56/.223 at one time. One on top of the other but would loose some casings if they were spot on closed.
  2. After reading the comments and reviews and looking at the I saw in person. I was looking for one of those salad spinners but only found news ones @ $25.00 + I found these heavy duty colanders, they were on sale and they fit together like it was made for media separating. Here is the tag with brand name inside Here are the two one on top etc. in working order, I was thinking of putting some type of clamp or screws and wing nut. But in use so far The tops being flat hold together nicely and the rubber grips on the handles don't let them slide. I do 200 hundred 5.56/.223 or 9mm casing at a time so it isn't much of a problem. It works really well and is very heavy duty plastic no give at all! For $13.89 for both on sale I am pleased with my work around flimsy stuff.
  3. Tool box, keeps everything together The working end with their version of the primer pocket cleaner, a cross hatched hardened bit. It seems to remove a lot of brass. Here is a wire brush version that I bought, but can't remember which brand it is. cleans, but doesn't remove brass. Here is a wire brush version that I bought, but can't remember which brand it is. cleans, but doesn't remove brass. This is their new version of the outside chamfer tool it does work well and no chatter. I haven't set up the trimmer yet theirs doesn't come with a pilot, and with the ring and collect the instructions claim one isn't needed. I have ordered one and the same brand cutter from Hornaday. I will try it both ways.
  4. Well it came yesterday afternoon all 10 pounds of it! opened it up put the in and out chamfer bits in and fired it up only did 5 cases but so far it looks to be a winner. A couple of things they have changed the style of outer chamfer bit. Secondly Any of the tool ends like from the Lyman hand case prep tool that stores the heads in the handle. Work in the drive heads of this tool. the screw threads are 8-32 I believe. The trimmer one is a standard 3/8-24 and is standard on any number of aftermarket cutters. I ordered one of the Hornaday ones with pilots. I think this one will make a difference in the fatige level of doing a large number of cases. It comes with a sheet explaining the different cutter head than on the box. Heavy duty case is die cast, motor and gear train are quite. Will post more later.
  5. Well that's good to know, just taking a break from processing mil crimps 5.56/.223, half way thru 200 using battery drills and bits to speed it up. But having one unit on the bench, seems like a good deal. thanks
  6. Does anybody have one and use it, what caught my attention is it made of die cast for the housing.
  7. Here is the reload section at the local range/gun store in Macomb county Mich, Brown Bear. The primers are in a case opposite and they have a good number of each and assorted sizes and brands. This was taken on Wednesday afternoon.
  8. part 2 of the saga, I ran 600 more yesterday and had the lid come loose once more. I packed it in for the night, I reloaded it this morning about 6:00am this morning. Went down to change it around, as I came off the stairs I watched as the lid was flung off the threaded shaft at a high rate of spinning speed and bounced of the band saw! I emptied it and cleaned it up reboxed it. Took it back with receipt to the HF store, (3 miles one way) and exchanged it for another one. Since the hole in the lid now was 1/2" dia and the threads were worn off on the shaft. Only had it since June 27 If you keep the receipt you can exchange or refund with in 90 days. They exchanged it no problem, Will check and see if they put out the return out in the "as is" and buy it for the part I need for my old one. The one I took back must have had something work with it as this one is as quite as my old one was.
  9. I have had the small one since they came out years ago, it fell off the bench and broke the the disk. I just bought a new one, till I can get around to making a new plate. New one is a little more noisy the the old one. The wing nit loosened up and wore off some threads. I drop a nut over the shaft and another fender washer to tighten it up. The bowl lid is a little finicky when you put it on as the new gasket aren't as thick as the old ones. Even with the lid off filled 3/4's full of media and 200 5.56/.223 or 500 9mm with the nufinish car polish not much media gets out of the bowl. A lot of the problems with the vibrator tumblers is people tend to fill them up with to many items and media. The point of having a vibrator type is the material and items need to have room to move around to effect the cleaning action. The material comes cleaner faster, with less in the bowl. Secondly I found that if your unit no matter what brand is moving. It is due to the screws holding everything together becoming loose. Locite them up, Go to the horrible fright's tumbler page and download the instructions and parts list. I will also say that there are no parts available other than the bowl gasket sometimes. Buying the warranty is a good deal as you take it back and get a new one before it expires. 10. I use a multi fluted countersink in the drill press and just hold the casing and touch it lightly. Have to find the rest of my assorted countersinks and the one that the point hits the flashhole and will give the same cut on most casings. I think that somebody said that a 1/4-5/16" drill bit also gives a good job of crimp removal.
  11. Found this one in a bag of range fired brass. It had enough metal in the pocket for one last go round.
  12. This came in a bag of casings I had purchased. And being new to handloading I am curious as to what causes this?
  13. ok I was watching Ayoob video the other day and in passing he mumbled the name of this sight. While reading one of his con/ceal/carry books he mentioned the sight that is on a lot of his guns used in the book. I googled them and it sounds like it might be a good substitute for the big dot, Dot the i sight I put on my g4/26. which I'm not sure that it is working for me. Since I need glasses to read and close up work, but not for much more past arms length or there about's. After reading the adverbage it sounds like it may give me a better sight picture. Of course too many of the vid's they link to are by the U tube self "legends in their own minds" guys. That may or may not being truthful since it sounds like the company has sent them a couple of sample sets. So has anybody put them to use and how did they work?
  14. That is about as fast as the stock one
  15. Good to know, so you can change the spring on them? was changing the spring any more complicated than a regular guide rod.
  16. I was stumbling around the web and found this one too. Anybody on here have one installed? The on/off switch, has anyone had any problems with them?
  17. I went from the passive import muffs to the HL's with mp3 jack. I found that when I am at the range a 6 line indoor. And am the only one the higher I turn the gain up the louder the fan gets. But it does drop the level of firing noise. I have a set of the foam plugs on a hard plastic half hoop if I'm the only one and using the 22LR's as they aren't as hard on the ears as the muffs after an hour or so. I am able to here others on the line talking, seems they talk more than they shoot!
  18. Has anybody used one on their Glocks? I have read a couple of bad reviews on them. They can be sour grapes etc. As they are cheap and break apart in use etc. I would think if they are that bad the company would have done an improved model or changed the formula on the polymer. It will be on a carry, and I don't intend too get into a running gun battle with a group of thugs. As some on the net seem to think is going to be a daily happening. Any thoughts?
  19. Well I have to say that is one of the best vid's on holsters I have seen. There are a couple of others holster one that the ladies are trying to be too cutesy! They covered just about all the questions for either men or women. Thanks
  20. After a search and an old thread popped up, are there any more info or comments about these? Ok does anybody use the Remora no clip carry holsters, I'm thinking of one for my Glock26 G4. Pro's and cons? Also if you have one and use it fro other brands of guns your comments are welcome too, as I am thinking of a secondary mouse gun in 9mm as a back up?
  21. Yes I intended to lube the cases, And thank you all for the info.
  22. I have been prepping brass while I collected all the rest of the toys and components to start reloading. I have the HF small tumbler and used it for other cleaning jobs. I like the coarse walnut shell from HF can't beat the price with the 25% off coupon. I am doing only 9mm and .223/5.56mm. I deprime with the Harvey depriming tool, with a tray on my lap and a couple of meat plastic trays I can sit and watch the tube depriming. http://www.harveydeprimer.com/ Have done about 5,000 plus 9mm/5.56mm/.223 with now problems. I use a brass buffing stick coumpound that I scrape off the stick with a coarse shoe rasp, I also cut into strips the used dryer soften sheets and put them in withe casing and media. They will catch the dust, I also have used nu- shine both work well. One word of caution is do not use brasso or any ammonia based brass polish. If you are going to use and citric acid based type product use it Lemishine etc. use sparingly. It can cause the rosing pink color of the casing when the zinc is remover from the surface.
  23. Yes, I am a little skepital about not lubing them. I think that lubing every couple would work and making sure the casing are clean before placing in the die will go a long way to averting problems.
  24. New to reloading and haven't set up the 550B yet till I can get the area in the shop worked out. But in reading on some forums about problems in using .223/5.56mm rounds in Auto's and AR-15's in particuler. I have the Dillon carbide die set .223 My question is the sizing die in the Dillon set, considered a full size small base die? Or do I need to get a small base die? thanks
