  1. I have an all black sti open 9mm ( Dawson Precision ) Runs both 9mm major and minor. Used, but functions great. still has great bullet velocity. PM me if interested. Also have a Trubor in 38 super, like new, reasonable.
  2. I have both, the 9mm open SVI and the Sti Steel Master. the Steel master was built for minor loads, and really functions well. So smooth, its like shooting a 22. I have run 124 gn Precision Delta jacketed bullet with 3.8 gn of IMR red dot and even my 11 yr old Daughter has an easy time controlling..
  3. I think your crazy to cut up a SVI!! Is your a Sight Tracker? If so don't do it. buy an open gun. the amount of work to turn your limited gun into a functional open gun is too much. If you really like your trigger, a competent gunsmith can get your trigger pull to feel however you want. That SVI limited gun has two much value to chop up, don't do it.
  4. Lots of great comments. Agree with most. If you are a guy that may switch to Limited occasionally ( like me ) the slide mount sight is a truer point and shoot. I did struggle when I was a new shooter in open with the long range offset!!! do you aim high or Low??? with the slide mount, off set is small enough that you will at least hit if you just aim center. 5. thank you for that feedback, I did not like the fact that there was no room for a buffer. On the next practice session, I will play with springs and buffers, I'll report back.
  6. thank you , I will research the thunderBeast, seems to get the most positive reviews. Weight is a big concern, thanks had not though a lot about that.
  7. I have wanted to purchase a Suppressor for a 300 black-out, but can never seems to get my mind wrapped around what is most important. Materials from S.S. to Titanium. Lengths , DB drops. there is so much. any simple advice, and of course costs? biggest ( or smallest ) bang for the bucks.
  8. I was giving the same "dead blow " speech for the aluma-buffs, so I have run them, but agree that anything that can protect the potential frame damage when shooting Major cannot be a bad thing? I did have one issue with a new SVI 9mm major gun. When I put the buffer in the gun would no longer lock-back. It would hit the spring at full compression, and with the buffer would not come back far enough to lock? Would any-one cut there spring to make room for the buffer, or just not run one?
  9. I sold an un-touched, low round count, Steel Master for $2,000
  10. I have 3-SVI's with J.Point slide mounted dots, and I have several with side frame mounts ( i'm a Lefty ) I was told the small glass on the JPoint was a dis-advantage, but I have finally run a match with the Slide mount and found the small glass, forced me to focus more, and dot just 1/4" above the barrel, made re-acquiring the dot quick. if I could see the barrel at the bottom of the glass, I could find the dot. I like the side mount for the c-more for the same reason, it gets the dot within 1/2" off the top of the barrel. Seems easier to pick-up having the top of the barrel as your reference.
  11. I am a fan of the Winchester Auto-comp. I have a new svi 9mm barrel and can make major power with 6.6 gr with a 124 Jacketed round PD bullet. Does not seem to make sense to me to use a powder that you have to get up over 9 gn. to make Power, am I missing something?
  12. three suggestions: 1) Trigger bow could be opening with mag. inserted, pulling trigger into mag. release bar. Loosen set screw in SVI trigger. This set screw adjust after-travel, if hitting mag release will be real hard to drop hammer. 2) If the screws to your grip are loss, grip can move and allow the trigger bow to move into beaver tail safety. tighten Screws. 3) with frame disassembled check fit at the rear of the trigger bow. If bow opened by mag, could be sticking where trigger bow moves into corners of the frame. SVI trigger bows are slightly wider than STI trigger bow. If any drag at all will typically cause hard pull and inconsistent reset. Kris
