  1. I hate that not only are my kids too sick to come visit me for the third weekend in a row, but now I am too sick to shoot a match tomorrow (and my first classifier)...
  2. Today I am sick, but I did a bit of practicing with draws and realized what good grip practice they can be. Loves2shoot showed me a proper grip last weekend, and although I had read this thread I did not realize how much the left hand needs to rotate forward. I have been redrawing the marks he put on my hands every day. Until today I had not really cared about draw practice since you only do it once a stage if that, but getting gripped on the gun the same every time will surely make you more consistent no matter how you do it. (a newbie perspective) -Shawn
  3. Well, I just got some really good instruction this weekend from Scott out in Bend. I have only been really shooting a pistol since January, and he showed me some things I was doing terribly wrong. This was what I really needed to make it so I will practice. I had gotten to the point where I didn't really want to do much repetition of things like draws or mag changes since I knew I was doing them with no solid technique. The thing that suprised me is how much my grip needed to change. I could not even get my hands into that position and also see the proper sight picture on Friday, but when I got up this morning, I still had the marks on my hands and for some reason I could do it. Anyway I had a lot of fun at the match in Bend (they had the Nationals there a few years ago, so there are some neat props and whatnot to shoot at), and the practice afterward. I would really recommend Scott as an instructor; he really knew what he wanted to teach me, and was good at seeing where I was at. Besides the stance, grip, and mechanical stuff, he also really stressed seeing each shot, and also prepping the trigger, which I never would have thought about doing at speed before, but it really helps transition speed. I am rambling... I had a great time and am still pumped about it. -Shawn
  4. I took the slide off and checked it, and I didn't see any interference with the round nose stuff that I am using.
  5. Okay, I'll watch for marks. I could drop the thing off next week Run n Gun if I can't figure it out. I want to shoot pins this weekend and I can use my old stop for that. Thanks for the help, -Shawn
  6. So, where should I start grinding? 45 degree angle on the part that sticks down the farthest seems like the thing to do, but I don't know that for sure... Trying not too seem any dumber than I actually am, but not any smarter either, -Shawn
  7. A programmer once explained to me that real time meant that a program that was absolutely critical (like a heart monitor for example) needed to do things in such a way that it was guaranteed not to be off in la-la land for an unspecified amount of time like a lot of normal programs can do without any real consequences. It had to be able to respond within a certain amount of time (milliseconds or whatever was needed) every time.
  8. I just bought an Ed Brown Hardcore slide stop, and it says that with my 45 acp that I may need to remove a small amount of metal to prevent bullet interference. What does that mean? As much as I like my 1911, I always seem to need to gouge on the thing to get it to work...
  9. I hate to be the guy in the thread that says he can't see the video, but I cant see it...
  10. I get a page not found error from that link. -Shawn
  11. I like pretty much any target that clanks, breaks or falls over...
  12. Me too, he reminds me of this guy's writing style: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/simmons/index
  13. Thanks nbright, I would like to be able to shoot something pretty much any weekend. I don't always know when I will be free, so it's good to have several different places where I could shoot some kind of match. -Shawn
  14. I got it, thanks Scott. -Shawn
  15. I could sure use some of that I live in Beaverton, OR and would like to get some training at some point before I get too far along (had my first match Saturday at Four Corners in Salem). Can you give some info on the course? -Shawn
  16. On the first stage I slidelocked twice on an open array. I did better when the targets were clumped together for me. I was so wrapped up in shooting, I didn't stop till my gun stopped... I recovered on the next stage and only dropped three points, made no mistakes except being slow. On the last two I made the ones I mentioned above. The adrenaline from the time pressure, and watching other people shooting so fast really changed my ability to keep track of anything except my muzzle. I definitely couldn't count shots. Soooo fun, I am so hooked
  17. I just did my first match this weekend, and I had a few pretty stupid ones. At one point during a stage, I was transitioning and put one very deliberate shot into a lone no shoot target before I realized what I had done. Positioned myself so I couldn't see a popper that should have activated the swinger that I shot twice, ending the stage without shooting the popper. Shot a string of four paper targets, and knew I needed to reload (Limited 10), but hesitated when a string of three that I needed to charge came into view and put one into the far right one. I 'came to my senses' and dropped the mag, reloaded and charged the remaining two without shooting the first target again. Had fun anyway. -Shawn
  18. I wonder how many megs a normal evil spirit takes up on disc... I guess my Commodore 64 was clean then. There is no doubt that people behave worse when they are anonymous than when people know who they are, but all of that stuff was in their heart to start with. Hopefully SP3 will take care of it
  19. 845, five or six tries. I think I'll go shoot or something...
  20. Did you use the Egret?
  21. I went to a fun shoot a couple weeks ago at Four Corners in Salem, OR where we shot at pins set up like they would be in a bowling match at 25 yards (among other things). I don't think that is exactly the type of pin shooting you all are talking about, but it was fun to shoot something that fell over. Anyway, someone had a 500 Smith and took nine of the pins off the table with two shots, pretty amazing gun. I just had my little stock 1991 Colt with 230gr Winchester white box. I can't wait to do it again. -Shawn
