  1. Don't like an IDPA Rule? Here is your chance to suggest changes. Rule book proposed change comments are open, for 2 weeks only. Get those suckers submitted! 3.9.1, 3.9.2, are the Flat Foot Reload: http://members.idpa.com/Rules/Home
  2. Currently using a Frankford Arsenal DS-750 digital scale, which is accurate to +/- 0.1 grains. It had great reviews on Amazon and Midway, and was only $25 so I bought it. It has been working fine so far, but I would like even better accuracy. Are there any digital scales that are accurate to +/- 0.01 that are not too expensive?
  3. What does your sight picture look like? 6'oclock hold or center mass? My sight picture generally looks like this:
  4. Will be getting a CZC SP-01 Shadow Custom soon. What front sight height will get POA/POI at 25 yards with 147gr around 130 PF? Thanks!
  5. I plan on using my reloads for an upcoming major match where they will chrono the ammo. I need to make 855fps / 125 PF. I chrono'd 80 of my rounds and they are averaging 873fps when the temp is about 75-80* - and 878fps when the temp is about 81-85*. I am using TiteGroup. I'm not sure what the weather will be on match day, but the historical temperatures show 57* (8am) to 80* (2pm) during that week. If the temp is 60* that day - will I fail chrono?
  6. I think I figured out what my problem was - I was not belling the case enough. I was flaring the case about .003 Dillon recommends: "at least .010" larger than a sized, unflared case mouth measures, and no larger than .020" larger." I set my flare to about .015 and checked the OAL of about 20 rounds - all of them are within .004 of each other.

    Flare

What is a good amount of belling / flare to have on the case mouth when seating the bullet? Should the bullet be able to sit straight on top of the case on its own?
  8. What CZ models are legal for IDPA SSP? Are the 91030 and 91154 good to go for SSP?
  9. I caught myself loading a double charge of powder before I seated the bullet on my 550b. My initial handle pull didn't go down all the way, and I accidentally did a full stroke again. Thankfully I caught the mistake. This freaked me out and I wanted to make sure I didn't double-charge any of my last 100 or so rounds I had just made. I thought I could just weigh the loaded rounds and look for 3.0 grains of additional weight (loading with 3.0 grains). I weighed a few of my 9mm 147gr rounds, and found that they had a wide range of weights. I was sure this was because I was using mixed brass. The average weight seemed to be about 212 grains, but I had some that were 6-7 grains higher. I then weighed a few of each headstamp brass to see what the differences were. Most were in the 61-62 grain range, but I had some brands that were down to 57 and other brands that were up to 65. I found that my heavier rounds were from the same head-stamp, and the numbers added up. The lightweight rounds were from the same headstamp too. But in the end, I found that its not so easy to weigh for squibs or double-charges when using mixed brass. The more you know...
  10. What about a sizing die that is not set right? From the Lee Website: "There are a number of possible causes for overall length variation... A potential solution for this on progressive presses is to turn the sizing die in far enough so that the carrier is stopping on the bottom of the die. This removes clearance problems when no sizing but yet seating / crimping is occurring. Take special care not to turn the die in further than to just touch the shell plate and possibly just a tad more. About 1/4th of turn more is all you want to go, turning the sizing die in too far causes other problems." I think I have my Lee sizer die just touching the shell plate when I locked it down, which is what the instructions said to do. But this Knowledgebase article says to up to 1/4th of a turn more?
  11. So this issue is only for 9mm Major? Are the WIN cases thinner or softer than others?
  12. What are your Top 5 headstamp / brands for 9mm brass?
  13. I use Lee dies in my 550b (except for the powder/expanding die) and 99/100 of my rounds pass the EGW chamber check, which is supposedly tighter than the Dillon. The one that doesn't pass sticks out about 1/16th of an inch or less and still fires fine out of my Glock 34.
  14. I think my Lee seating die only came with one seating plug, which is for a round nose profile?
  15. I used One Shot, but maybe I didn't use enough. I sprayed for about 1/2 second into a sandwich size ziploc bag, then put in about 100 brass and rolled them around. I let them dry on a cookie sheet for about 15 minutes before I started using them. I measured all 100 rounds and about 40 of them were above 1.150 OAL. I ran those rounds back through the seating and FCD dies and now they all measure around 1.145 OAL.
  16. New reloader here... I can't seem to get my OAL very consistent. I have loaded about 600 9mm Xtreme 147gr rounds on my Dillon 550b using the Lee 4 Die set. Everything passes the chamber check on my EGW. All my dies are locked down pretty tight with Dillon rings. I'm sure I am pulling the handle all the way down & up. My last batch of 100 rounds, I am getting OALs ranging from 1.144 to 1.158 Is that wide of a range normal for mixed headstamp?
  17. Sanctioned Match needs additional SO help: Northern AZ High Country Shootout Saturday, October 25th 2014 Match Director Jeff Brown is looking for additional help. Currently, they only have enough staff to run sixty shooters, and had to cap the Match early. He would really welcome your help so they can open up again to reach their goal of 80. Staff receive a waived match fee, a high-quality staff garment, lunch, and refreshments each day all at no charge. Please contact him if you can help: IDPASHOOTER1@hotmail.com. http://www.yavapairecreationleague.org/nazhcs.php
  18. Is this a good way to separate brass? I have a bunch of 9mm and .40 that I need to sort. Any other recommendations? http://www.midwayusa.com/product/847836/shell-sorter-brass-sorter-9mm-luger-40-smith-and-wesson-45-acp-3-bowl-set
  19. New reloader here. How many times can you use a batch of crushed walnut (pet store) to clean brass? Are you supposed to add a capful of NuFinish to each brass run, or does one capful last several brass runs? Are you supposed to use new dryer sheets or used? Thanks.
  20. I don't really like the standard Dillon 500b ball handle, and was going to buy the Roller Handle. I saw that Inline Fabrication makes an Ergo Roller Handle for the Dillon 550. Has anyone tried both? Is the Ergo worth the extra $10?
  21. I'm using the Lee Deluxe 4-die set on my 550b. I set the sizing die per instructions: "Screw the full length sizer in until it touches the shell holder and tighten the lock ring"
