  1. That is my concern that their blanket recommendation is .230 for a .250 rear. No matter what the slide length? When I spoke to them they said to start with the .230" for the G34 and if that didn't work they'd give me a taller sight, as I said it shot dead on for me. On my 17L which has an even longer sight radius I needed a .01" taller front sight than their standard recommended height to shoot to the correct POI. Update: I spoke to Dawson as well and they do recommend their .230" front with a .250" rear, so I ordered one to test out. The .230 front shoots high for me at 25 yards with AAA ammo. The Sevigny .245 is POA/POI.
  2. How can you tell when a recoil spring is worn and should be replaced?

    KKM Barrels

Are KKM barrels worth the money? Supposedly they lock up tighter and are more accurate. Does this create any issues with reliability?
  4. Exactly my point. Say the first part of the CoF says: "Take out T1-T3, then advance to P2 and take out T4-T5". T4-T5 may be closer / easier to shoot, but if you advance to P2 then you expose yourself to T1-T3 and earn a penalty. USPSA doesn't have all the PEs that IDPA does. I think many IDPA stages are written to prevent unnecessary PEs, which would just piss people off - especially new shooters.
  5. Not all stage designers tell shooters what to do. Some just say things like "Take out the bad guys" and you have to figure out how to best shoot the stage. I think a lot of the diretion in IDPA stages is to help prevent shooters from getting PEs.
  6. Nice video. What ammo were you using? Were you using a sight picture like this:

  8. Something interesting I found: Dawson recommends a .300" front sight for the 17L. The 17L has a sight radius of 8.07". The 34 has a sight radius of 7.32". The 17 has a sight radius of 6.49".
  9. My guess is not everyone is testing the same way, not using the same ammo (power factor and weight). Sevigny's website says: "Point of Aim/Point of Impact (POA/POI) for G34 and G35, with most subsonic ammo, will be at or slightly above the front post (approx. 2”) with the .215″ tall front at 25 yards.
  10. I just did some testing with my Gen4 34 and Atlanta Arms & Ammo 147gr 9mm (880fps / 130 power factor from a G17). Sevigny .245" was POA/POI at 25 yards with the AAA 9mm. It shot 1 inch low at 7 yards. I also have a Gen4 G17 also with Sevigny sights (.215" front). It shot POA/POI at 7 yards and 2-3" high at 25 yards, with the same ammo.
  11. How does the Gen4 RSA compare to a 13# ISMI setup on a G17 or G34? What is the spring weight of a Gen4 G17 RSA? Thanks.
  12. Lets say for example, someone classified as CDP Marksman. Then they win a sanctioned match and get bumped to CDP Sharpshooter. Later on in the same year, they shoot another Classifier and can only achieve a CDP Marksman score. Are they now a Marksman again? Or once you achieve a classification, you can't classify lower in the same division?
  13. Will a 13# spring work well for shooting 147gr 9mm that is 130pf?
  14. Thanks. I have been shooting a Glock 17 Gen4 with Atlanta Arms 147gr which is supposed to be 130pf. I haven't had any issues with the stock Gen4 RSA, but if a Gen3 setup with light spring will reduce my recoil - I'm all for that.
  15. Lighter weight recoil springs = less perceived recoil?
  16. I have a few newbie questions on RSAs: 1. Glock says the Gen4 "dual recoil spring assembly noticeably reduces the felt recoil while simultaneously increasing the life span of the assembly." - is this true over the Gen3? 2. I have read that a lot of shooters are replacing their Gen4 RSAs with Jager guide rods and ISMI springs. What benefits does this have over the Gen4 RSA? 3. Are Jager Gen4 stainless steel guide rods legal for IDPA SSP under the new rulebook? 4. What spring weights are good for which power factor (9mm)? 5. What else do I need to know about RSAs and springs etc. Thanks for your time.
  17. I will have to try this next time I'm at the range. Thanks.
  18. No. The G17 and G34 can be set up identically. Barrel length has nothing to do with their accuracy. You are only looking at about 3/4 of an inch in sight radius difference. And, in IDPA, you won't be shoot at over 20y hardly at all, anyway. How is your accuracy with the G17? Decent, but it can always get better. I was hoping a longer sight radius could help on stages like this: http://www.idpa.com/blog/post/2013/10/01/California-State-Championship-13-Stage-11-Accuracy-Speaks.aspx
  19. Anyone that has used both extensively - do you find the 34 to be more accurate at 20+ yards?
  20. I currently shoot a Glock 17 Gen4. I plan on shooting IDPA at least twice a month and going to sanctioned regional & state matches. Is it worth upgrading to the Glock 34 Gen4? I would need to buy the G34 first ($850 with fees, tax & SSE), upgrade my Comp-Tac holster and switch over the sights. If I like the G34 better - I would sell the G17 and holster to get most of my money back. Is it worth upgrading?
