  1. So I'm still learning about what it takes to make a good round for my 9mm comp (major). I'm finding factory rounds won't even cycle with (FTE) but 115 gr rounds over 1300 fps work fine in 9mm and 1250fps with 124 grain rounds. Any thoughts? I'm not competitive just looking for a good load for the gun set up with the comp. 9mm compensator (muzzle break)
  2. I'm still experimenting with this using a Glock17 gen4 lone wold distributors barrel and compensator (major). I'm trying to find a good load that does just what you describe using titegroup. My findings so far show a 115 gr 9mm over 1200 fps works and so does a 124 over 1150 fps. A factory load fails every time. Here's some video. 9mm compensator (muzzle break)
  3. I have two progressive 1000 presses and the powder discs are guess-estimates. The rate will change for each powder since the disc measures by volume and powders vary in weight/volume. The discs also allow flake powders to build up on their sides but a quick "tap" on the disc can ensure even amounts. Honestly I've heard lots of RCB owners cursing Unique because they have loads varying up to + .2 gr.
  4. Well, I made up 6 rounds with longshot powder (9 grains), Berry's hollow base FMJ RN 185grain bullets with a COL of 1.270 and CCI 550 mag primers. Avg velocity was 950fps. Finally a load that will work for SPP brass. :-)
  5. Glad I found this, now I know I'm not crazy. LOL Tried the same loads and bullets in LPP and SPP using CCI 550 magnum primers in the SPP and results were much slower for the SPP than they were for the same load in a case with LP Remington primers.
  6. I was at 1.275 + .005in OAL. Thanks for the link to the older load data. I really wonder how much time and effort some of these load data groups really put into developing these charts. Some of the manuals I have seen have less than 5 powders listed for any one caliber let alone much variety in the bullets used.
  7. I guess that is something that comes with experience. For us newb's we are taking the printed data and treating it as "the word". On a happier note I found a pound of longshot and made up two batches of rounds that I just tested. First batch came in at 800fps second at 870fps. So at least now I have a second powder to use for reloading 45's.
  8. Lyman manual and Hogdon web site shows PB as applicable. So it should work, but moreover PB is a powder I can actually find so I'd like to use it where I can. If it doesn't make a good 45 powder so be it but then I really want to find one that does that I can buy locally. Stocking up now before the next politician creates a perfect storm and we're all begging for supplies.
  9. Interesting, I retested my 5.8 grain reloads using both large pistol primer cases and small pp using magnum pistol primers. As before the large pp loaded with PB fired a little weak at 750fps. However the small pp cases fired much lower at 650 and two even failed to completely eject. I want to try this again with my unique load that chronoed at 850+ fps and see if the result is the same using small cci 500 and 550 pistol primers.
  10. Well maybe I'll try one disc up although I'm sure I'll be over the 6gr max. I mean it functions fine as is but I like to try and meet specs. It's the QA engineer in me I think. LOL
  11. Yeah, Nut sound so much better.
  12. I am trying to come up with a recipe for a 45ACP load using IMR PB powder and Berrys 185 grain hollow base JRN bullet. Hogdon load charts show 5.2 to 5.8 grains PB but at 5.6 grains my chrono only shows 730fps. If PB too fast a powder for 45acp to meet an 850fps speed?
  13. I bought an M3000 earlier this year. It's been a great gun so far with NO FTF's or FTE's. Mine has the 28 inch barrel as I bought it for trap and skeet in general. Not sure if I have enough posts but I have a video review of the gun and several clay shooting videos with me using the gun. Just google "ADVfilmer".
  14. Thank you gents. I'm down near Columbus so hopefully I can add some Central flavor to the Ohio information.
  15. I researched this a bit and the issue seems to be based on the gen 3 and earlier glocks that had unsupported bases. Bulges were worse than the gen 4's and there were several reports of cases breaching when refired in the same gun because (supposedly) the bulged area fell into the same unsupported area in the chamber. I have used a S&W SD40VE, Baretta PX4 storm in 40 and an XDm 5.25 in barrel in 40 and have yet to see bulging in the base as bad as some of the gen 3 or earlier glocks. I use the stock resizing die for the Lee Progressive 1000 and have yet to experience issues. But then again I get so much free brass on my range I can afford to reload once and then scrap the cases.
  16. I just started making batches of 45acp with Herters once fired brass, lg pistol rem 2 1/2 primers, Berrys 185 grain hollow base jacketd RN bullets, unique powder at 5.6 gr, 6.2 gr and 6.5 gr at 1.275 + 0.005 inches. Chrono results using a SIG 5 inch barrel 1911 were in order avg 737 fps SD16 avg 829 fps SD 16 avg 841fps SD 10 The rounds with 6.5 grains were also tested with my long time reloading friends chrono averaging 862fps and a SD of 13. Hope this helps for comparison.
  17. New from Ohio. Friend turned me on to this site as I have only been reloading for a while. Like most hobbies I've jumped in head first and am already reloading for 9mm, 40 S&W and 45ACP. Soon I'll start rifles with the addition of 45-70 reloading. Have my own range and even bought a chronograph to test my rounds. Look forward to continuing to learn and expand my abilities.
