  1. It is sad. I know I have done about all I can to push and beg people to vote in the past two elections. I would almost like to know the voting by section and thus the associated participation rates. I know Rob Boudrie mentioned something about this in a completely separate post - but has USPSA put forth any real effort to look at online voting? I know if corporations can do Proxy Votes online, there has to be an acceptable level of assurance available to us for our voting......assuming the costs for such a service isn't beyond ridiculous that is.
  2. It is possible, as I have approved and pushed through downgrades of classifications before, recently in my section in fact. The key item is to clearly show that your current classification is not indicative of current skill sets and abilities. In the couple of cases I have approved, there was a legitimate reason for the 'lower' skill set - age in one and injury in the other. While having a reason for diminished skills/abilities is definitely not a requirement, it just helps in the request as it explains in part why the request is being made (other than lower classifier scores). Even though the requests I had were specific to a single division, I reviewed scores in all divisions to the ensure historical performance in those divisions also supported the downgrade request. I certainly didn't want to approve someone to go from B to C-class in Limited only to have them go up to B-class in another division in the following months. And because of that type of review, I have not supported one request made to me. So with the documentation of data from the classification system and a reasonable supporting story, the requests I supported and submitted were also supported by the AD and Dave Thomas without a lot of question and thus downgrade occurred shortly after submission.
  3. That is a good question.....not sure when he will shoot at this time. In the past, he shot on Saturday. As for me, I am sure I will create a few comical moments too. Yeah, that "Is it 5 o'clock" question from Gary was definitely a classic line. When I shot the match on Sunday, I intentionally threw a shot at that darn steel plate for revenge.
  4. Glad you are coming, especially if you are willing to drive that far. Up to 27 as of right now, with five GM, including Jerry M, Matt Griffin and Johnny Brister just to name a few. Don't forget Rich Wolfe! Right now that is all of the "Big Guns" that have told Sam that they plan to attend. We are planning to have live entertainment again this year......Rodney May will be shooting revolver again.
  5. I have not seen the stages yet (which reminds that I need to get them from Sam so I can get them signed off).....but for those that have shot this match before, I think you will agree that Sam does put together some fun stages - even when shooting guns with more than 6 rounds. So again, not only can you shoot the revolver portion but come back the next day with the rest of us and shoot with a gun that won't make you stop and reload just as things get rolling!
  6. Bill, that reminds me.........may be we should charge to use the porto-potties?
  7. Just confirmed - use SKS in the "Group Code" section to obtain the match rate at the hotel. MEMPHIS/GERMANTOWN 7784 WOLF TRAIL COVE, GERMANTOWN,TENNESSEE 901-309-6700 www.hiexpress.com This particular hotel was recently built and if this Holiday Inn Express is similar to the new one I recently stayed in - YOU WILL LIKE IT!!!
  8. And to add a little incentive to the equation......not only are we raffling off a M1A rifle (for which ANYBODY can participate), there will be a "surprise" raffle that will be lucrative as well. And ONLY competitors and staff can participate in this particular raffle. So if you have been thinking about coming to this match, quit thinking and send me your app!!!!
  9. Is there a match rate for the match hotel? I'm coming up $127 per. Just confirmed with Holiday Inn, the match hotel is priced at the same level as last year (should be about $89). Also, they stated that the group code to use if booking online was "SKS." However, when I tried using that code, I got an error. So not sure if that is a timing issue or a real problem. I will call back in a day or two to check again as I think they may have just set up the code. Regardless - those rates and "SKS" code are ONLY good for a Nov 4 check-in and a Nov 6 check-out. If you need the room an additional night (3rd or the 7th), you will need to make a 2nd reservation for that specific night and then when you actually do check-in inform the desk of your double-reservation. As a side note - Sam is somewhat computerless at the moment and thus could be tough to get for a while. If you have any questions or concerns, relay them to me and if I cannot answer, I will chase down Sam for you. My contact info is: brad.griffin@gmail.com 615-415-0099 or 901-619-1125
  10. Sorry Cheryl, I clicked on the wrong "Michael" when I was doing his registration. He should have had the confirmation by now as I corrected it last week.
  11. The flipping of bullets out of gun doesn't isn't always an accurate description of what folks do. If one simply yanks back on the slide and immediately lets go of the slide, then yes that is dangerous. I have seen where the ejector hit the primer and caused the round to go off.....not a pretty sight. However, if one simply pulls back on the slide real hard, sees the bullet leave the gun, and then drops the slide.....nothing wrong with that. So just because you see a bullet fly out of the gun, that doesn't necessarily mean someone is "flipping" a bullet out of a gun in a dangerous manner.
  12. I agree. Some of you might be surprised to hear I voted to allow the 7- and 8-shot minor option. I think it would be very interesting to give it a try, and it might be just the thing to help re-invigorate the division. The other thing that would make a real difference is a stand-alone USPSA Revolver Nationals with a real prize table. What a coincidence.....we have a match with a range, a match director, and the overall desire to become just that type of match. And if you want, you may shoot it in Memphis November 4-5 - the Memphis Charity Challenge.
  13. Is this when you got stuck in the armless chair? No, this is when I got stuck on a picnic bench with no back That takes talent when you can use a picnic bench as butt floss.
  14. Barry, was this the Holiday Inn? I am asking because we had a second hotel, Comfort Inn, that provided some rooms at a discounted rate.
  15. .....just give Bryant a call and he can fix that problem for you. Or you can temporarily move to TN and I will handle it.
  16. I have found that whenever 3 GM's shoot in a division, the overall match results will count as a classifier - regardless of how the GM's do in the match. And with the 3 GM's shooting at or above M level (I rounded up), I am quite sure this match will count as classifier score. Why do you ask - do you need me to lower your score?
  17. ......or just "F"unny to watch. Last year Sam put up steel plates just in front of targets that were out about 35 - 40 yards. I knew the revolver I was using shot a little right for me, I just didn't know how far right at that distance. Well, out of my six shots, I hit the steel plates with 5 shots in good rhythm. Within seconds after I got done, Gary Stevens walked over to the stage and asked if it was 5 o'clock. ......so get ready for humor. :-)
  18. I can say with almost certainty that there will be tickets available at the match for a rifle. So bring your money, bring your revolver, and bring your cameras......so you can video me if you ever need a good laugh later.
  19. Welcome to the club of Revolver M's that shoot like I should be in G class (D-class would be a major promotion for me). This is a Level II match, so you will shoot your classification - that is how I have scored all of the previous matches. The good news is that after this match, you will have two classifier scores.
  20. Thank you for fixing the self-squadding. Now I have been able to squad myself after about 2 months of trying. You had better hurry up, all of the good spots are almost taken.
  21. Ah, you are another shooter that did well in their class.....only to have it changed the following day.
  22. Sorry, just now starting to wake up after playing with the TN Section match......please note "starting" is the key word. The self-squadding data and labels have been fixed. Something had been going on behind the server scene that was changing up the dates and times - I had this exact same problem with the TN match. But all should be corrected as a couple of minutes ago. The match announcement on USPSA has been updated with the address for the new website.
  23. .....I lost count. How many Peltors were left at the range? 8 or 12?
