  1. As pointed out most get too close to cover and move back further behind cover to reload. You can improve your time, especially as a newer shooter, by moving faster rather than shooting any faster. As opposed to one poster, on a walk through I pick the exact spots I need to stop at and when I enter that position I already have my gun at the point it needs to be before I can see around the cover so I am ready to shoot as soon as I get there. If you get there and then raise your gun you wasted time. Also, on short moves don't break your grip and keep your gun at ready height. You need to weigh out correctly the risk reward on shooting an activator, static, mover. When it is advantageous to shoot activator, static, then mover don't rush the static. Most people decide they can do it then rush on the static and drop points. Sometimes when you decide you can't make it, you can shoot the activator twice to get the mover started quicker.
  2. I noticed the $10 shipping and was wondering the same thing. There wasn't any option to ship USPS
  3. So I'm out shooting my Edge yesterday testing some loads and I've run a few mags when I draw and on about the fourth shot I see my fiber optic kind of falling over to the right. The back end of the sight has broken off and the strip of fiber optic is holding the pieces of the sight together. Finally the fiber optic broke and I lost the rear piece of my sight because of course I kept shooting. So, I need a new sight and the question is Dawson (which is what I had) or a Brazos Micro Dot? Anybody out there tried both? Opinions please.
  4. Thanks for that bowenbuilt. I expect I'll find that it takes another tenth or two to get me there at 1.18 OAL.
  5. I'm getting better at keeping the rules straight but when I first started shooting USPSA I picked up a bunch of procedurals at IDPA as well.
  6. Newer shooters tend to gravitate to IDPA as it is a better game for new shooters IMHO. The better shooters will often begin to shoot USPSA as well. Some of the sillier new rules have kept the better shooters from shooting both and they have moved exclusively to USPSA. Even so, there seem to be more new shooters coming out to the range which is a good thing for all of our sports. I prefer to shoot USPSA but I continue to shoot IDPA at my club's local matches to support the club, convenience to my house, and to shoot with my friends who still shoot IDPA. But, I have not been willing to travel to IDPA major matches anymore as I will for USPSA matches.
  7. I shoot a M&P pro 9 with an Apex CEAK and an aluminum trigger - wish at this point that I had gotten the FSS aluminum- but it is about 2.5 pounds. A little more pre travel than the FSS I think but pretty nice. Breaking at 5.5 pounds should I go lighter? Absolutley
  8. Does anybody have this EGW magwell? If so, can you measure the width and report back?
  9. For my area there has been a lot of growth and new shooters for IDPA. As others have noted we too have lost a lot of shooters who don't like the new rules. I am still shooting even though I don't like most of the new rules. I stay anyway and shoot the club matches due to convenient location and friends. All the new shooters are exactly that and are for the most part oblivious. IDPA being a good place for new shooters to start will in the long run be what keeps it viable apparently no matter how much they screw it up.
  10. The 175's-178's are much better for long range but my gas gun didn't like them as well as the 168's- especially 168 Amax. You are definitely running them too hot with 46 Gr of Varget. I would stay under 45 grains. I am getting my best groups at anywhere from 43.5- 44.0 grains. About 2,650 fps
  11. The 55 grain Hornady FMJ's are great, but for the same price if you find them available try the Hornady 55 grain soft points. I thought they would be about the same but my 3 gun rifle shoots those soft points tighter than the FMJ's.
  12. Just found out I'll be missing the match. My wife tells me we have to move my daughter off to College on the 22nd. Not sure why she can't move in a week early...
  13. I just used a file on the follower. Just a little off the front left corner. Not need to do anything to the slide stop. Just take a little off and try it. As someone said you may try a lighter spring than 12# for minor loads. Does anybody do this and what weight spring for minor? Or just stay with 12-13# for everything?
  14. For my M&P Pro I am loading at 1.16 and with 4.7 grains of WST I can make 169 PF as well as with 4.5 grains of Solo. BTW- the 5 grains of WST in the Edge today came out a little hotter than it has in the past. Not sure why as it was hot today and WST is reverse temp sensitive- although the rounds came out of an air conditioned truck and promptly fired through the chrono
  15. Interesting to see the differences in how many grains to make PF with different COL's. I just tested some BBI 180's today with WST and CFE but out of an Edge at 1.180. Here's what I got: 5.6 Gr CFE 5.0 Gr WST Av 960 AV 970 ES 38 ES 26 SD 10 SD 8 172 PF 174 PF
  16. I was getting a little smoke with WST in the old BBI molys, but less with the new coating. I've tried some CFE with them and they were good. Just wasn't sure about the Titegroup. I'm going to load some up based on your experience. Are you shooting the BBI 180's and what COL and how much powder?
  17. I am going to try some CFE in 9mm to compare it to Solo. I have recently been working with CFE in 40 where I normally load WST. I have tried both powders with Xtreme plated 180's, 200', and BBI 180's all loaded to about 170 PF. Shooting them through as STI Edge I can hardly tell the difference.
  18. If you want to try the Xtreme plated 135's with TG I'm running them in a M&P pro at 1.14" with 3.5 grains. Makes about 131 PF.
  19. Go with the Apex FSS kit. I used the CAEK with an aluminum trigger and wish I had used the FSS trigger. My 9 and my 40 both break at 2.5 pounds but with a little pre travel. The Bladetech should be gtg. TTI base pads are the best as are SSS magwells IMHO. I have the brass magwell with a tungsten guide rod on my 40 for limited. You could try the SSS limited magwell or the SJC which is twice the weight of the brass.
  20. Mostly what I do, but maybe a little more often. As others have said a little oil on the barrel and on the rails. Not too much. The gun just runs anyway.
  21. I have not tried any Titegroup with the newer BBI coating. How is the smoke?
  22. I just tried some Xtreme plated 180's and 200's with CFE and to me there was not really enough difference to matter. Loading 1.18 with 5.6 grains in the 180's and 5.0 grains in the 200's. Both just at 165 pf. Ran out of WST and was testing the CFE- looks like both loads need to be increased a little. I have to say that WST feels a little softer to me than CFE, btw.
  23. Even if you cut the lips it will be a little tougher to seat the mags. I think you will be just fighting up hill without breaking down and buying new base pads.
  24. I have both a 9 and 40 in the 5" pro. I have both because I shoot IDPA ESP and 3 gun with the 9. I shoot Limited with the 40. I run a tungsten guide rod and a heavier magwell on the 40. If I didn't have 2 guns I would have to change those out to shoot IDPA. If you don't shoot IDPA you could just go with the 40. It is much better to shoot major in Limited and you can download your rounds for 3 gun. The 40 will shoot as soft or softer than the 9 does. You would lose 3 rounds of mag capacity between the 9 and 40. Even though my 40 has shot well for me in Limited I recently bought a used Edge and will be shooting Limited with it now. Not really a good comparison between the two to me. And, btw, you will need a 40 to 9 conversion barrel if you want to shoot 9 and 40 from the same gun- not a factory 9mm barrel.
