  1. which is why all my pets have been named, "1234!"
  2. good idea! I'll head to the local hardware store tomorrow! Thanks guys!
  3. Nice! I'm a lucky one, I guess....I work outdoors around the Pensacola Beach area. The Blues are stationed here and fly almost every Wednesday. Like you, my father was also a pilot. He ran a squadron of E2C's on the USS Enterprise while we were in San Diego. Went to every air show from the time I was around 5 until he retired. I still take my family every year for the Blues Homecoming show here. I was also lucky enough to be stationed in Germany and get to watch the air shows over there. Seems the Red Arrows are allowed to fly a little tighter in their formation. I swear you can see the wings tapping the canopies of the other jets because they're overlapping so much!!!! Thankfully, we came back stateside a few months before the crash there in '88.
  4. You don't HAVE to put a moisture trap on it.....If you don't plan on doing any extended spraying and can keep up with a little maintenance, you can get away without the moisture trap. I drain my tank to get the water out about twice a month and I do NOT have a moisture trap on my setup and haven't had any issues.
  5. I've read through the site after searching a few times and still have a few questions. If I decide to make a dummy round for dry firing, should I leave an old, spent primer in the case for the firing pin to contact? I plan on drilling a hole through the brass to be able to visually check that there's nothing but air behind the bullet, but I don't know about the primer. I read that an old eraser off a pencil will do the trick. I'm shooting a stock XDM40 so do I need something for the firing pin to strike? I could make this dummy round in a few seconds on my press so if it's something this simple, I figure I'll try it! Thanks for any help.
  6. I've been using a Pasche VL for the past 18 years. From models to mass producing R/C car bodies. I've never had a problem with it. You DON'T need a special compressor for an airbrush. If you already have a shop compressor, you can put together an adapter with an inline moisture trap/filter from your local Home Depot/Lowes. You can even find an adapter that lets you run the airbrush off a spare tire! I think I paid around $140 for my VL back in the day. After that, get some paint and get started!
  7. Heck yeah! Think the next one is next Sunday the 21st? I'll be there missing targets left and low!!!
  8. That's awesome, Tommy! Good luck! I know my cousin went through hell trying to get the UF paintball team underway. Glad to see the school has come around a bit on their gun views.

Well after the first small batch to make sure everything was in working order, I loaded up another 150 and headed to the range. I bumped the powder up from 6.1 to 6.3-6.4 due to the slide not locking back after the last bullet fired. The new load worked flawlessly through all 150 rounds! Slide locked back on every depleted mag! Only thing is the front tip of my gun looks like it was used to clean the soot out of a chimney! The cool part was my son was more than happy to track down all my brass and pick it up after it cooled off enough! Left with 148 lightly used .40 cases! Still don't know where those other 2 went.....
  10. After coming home from a long night of r/c racing, I find my garage door is wedged in the tracks with one side about 2 feet higher than the other. Tired after an hour of driving and it's already pushing 3a.m. so my attention is not very sound. Can't get the garage door to budge so I decide to remove the bolts that hold the cable that is putting tension on the door. I get three of the five bolts off on one side and right when I break the hold of the fourth bolt, the entire carrier plate shears off bolts 4 and 5 and that plate goes skyward with all the tension of the garage door springs. It caught enough of my head to lift me off my feet and stand me straight up! Roommate was still sleeping and I didn't want to drive myself to the ER so I went to bed. Woke up the next morning with the side of my face stuck to the pillowcase! Speaking of r/c car racing.....back before the newer lipo batteries, everything was hard-soldered into place. We used high powered soldering irons for every battery change and motor cleaning/swap. Sitting in a small desk chair, soldering away at a motor wire and a big ol' glob of solder drops off the motor tab. Instincts tell me an expensive and hard to find small part is falling off my workbench, so I slam my legs closed to "catch" it! Instead got burns on the inside of both thighs! Don't play racquetball in loose boxers and even looser umbro soccer shorts.....your playing partner might not have the best aim when trying to return your serve that ended up right behind you while you're still facing the front wall..... Never again jump a friends moped. Front forks separated and I landed on the stanchion tubes which stuck into the ground like spikes sending me over the bars and depleting my lungs of any usable air.... When I was around 8 I was watching my neighbor work on his motorcycle. It was running and I wanted to touch the "rainbow" colors on the exhaust..... I could go on but it's getting late and all the knocks to my noggin over the years and catching up....
  11. I've been playing battlefield since the original BF1942 came out. Love it, but I only play on PC. Feel free to add me if you guys ever convert over to the PC.... _SROL_jogan.

roger that. HPJack, the only reason I opted for the hornady's is because out of the entire wall of reloading bullets, it was the ONLY box for .40/10mm. I HATE having to shoot expensive hollow points for paper killin! Now that I'm no longer terrified of reloading, I'll be placing an order for bulk primers and bulk bullets. Thanks again for all the help, guys!

Cool. The gentleman I bought the reloader from has a chono as well as another shooting buddy who also reloads. Both have offered the use of it. According to Hodgdon's site, I should be just over 880fps with around 26,000 psi. Is there a "sweet spot" that my gun is looking for? XDM40 w/4.5" barrel.

Thanks to everyone on this site, I was able to reload for the first time and everything worked out! Got a good deal on a used Square Deal. Drove 35mins to the local Bass Pro Shops and loaded up my basket with everything I'd need to start reloading. Spent about 2 weeks reading as much information on this site as I could as well as researching load data for my caliber. Plus the gentleman that sold me his loader was very helpful in getting me started on the right foot. I was a little hesitant since I was limited to only a few powders to choose from and only one bullet and no one seemed to use this powder (Hodgdon's HS-6). When I finally make an order online, I'll switch to the VV320 as that seems to be the favorite. As of now, I've got this setup: Hornady XTP 180 HS-6 6.2grs cci small primer O.A.L. is 1.125 This is going through a box stock XDM40 with the 4.5" barrel. I'm trying to find out the pros and cons of a heavier bullet compared to a lighter one. Seems the lighter bullets require MORE powder than the heavier ones. I would have thought it the other way. As of now, I'm not reloading to make a certain power factor. I'm just trying to save some $$$ and have some fun at the same time!
  17. You didn't mention a price cap!lol Any of the small pancake compressors from your favorite local hardware store should do the trick. No need to bolt it down, it's not going anywhere. If you want to move up from just topping off tires, look for some of the larger upright units. The size of the tank isn't the only "spec" you're looking at. You want a higher CFM as well. I have a small pancake compressor I bought at a yard sale for $20 that stays in the back of my truck for tires and when I install base trim or crown in houses and a $800 Rol-Air that's bolted to the work trailer that runs my construction crew. They're ALL gonna need to "catch up" at one point or another, just some do so quicker.
  18. It appears the old Escambia River Muzzleloader's range is up and running again under the new name of Escambia River Gun Club. They run IDPA matches the 3rd Sunday and 4th Saturday of the month. I think this Saturday is a classifier round and will start a little earlier than regular matches. I'm a bit new to this so I apologize in advance if I can't answer any questions. They have a forum though it's not very active. escambiarivergunclub.org is their site. I've done a search here before about shooting events close to Pensacola and don't want to drive to Mobile or Dothan for matches.
