  1. Great match, the "boys" at Pala really know how to put on a match. Big round count and fast to reset the stages. Thanks, Jeff, Craig, Dan, Ray and the rest of the Pala crew. Thanks
  2. I don't think a JP upper will go up in price it's not a gun.
  3. You might be able to find the video on youtube of Iggy (DOJ firearms expert at the time) being interviewed where he confirmed the bullet button is legal. Just because Iggy cooked a round off into his desk at the office doesn't mean he's not an expert. Or so the story goes.
  4. What a great match. Fun and challenging stages, 30 plus round stages buck, slugs and bird shot. Thanks Wayde. For those of you that stayed away because of the rain too bad no rain t shirt weather perfect shooting conditions.
  5. I'm looking forward to the match Wayde and was planning on camping at the range Saturday night.
  6. I'd post this on www.calguns.net. If you are going to score paper at distance that is really slow. What might help you is if you put up enough targets for 4 or 5 shooters to shoot before you have to score them. Paint them different colors put the color on the shooter score sheet and they shoot the same color target. Make one trip down and tape and score the red, orange, blue, yellow, green targets. Or not.
  7. I'll bite what is special about these receivers?
  8. Good for you!!! I'd consider driving up from LA for this match, and bring some friends. Keep us posted with the dates.
  9. Correct me if I'm wrong. But isn't it possible to win the match and not be the fastest? You can't compare this sport to NASCAR, football, tennis etc. They play to one winner. If you want to compare this sport to something LeMans would be closer they run one race with different classes in the same race. The difference they have is the fastest guy wins not the guy with the highest percentage. The premier class gets a higher payout than the lower classes. I'm no danger to walk the prize table anywhere near the top. By the time I get there I need a flashlight because everybody else has gone home. I'm for the fastest guy wins, not random drawing. The best way to work the prize table is the way the people putting on the match want to do it. They're the ones with a nut to crack.
  10. I shot the National in Reno. USPSA 3 gun National does not have a good FPD factor for me. Fun Per Dollar. This match has too many negatives for me. Distance, cost, low fun factor.
  11. Benelli Chick and LChico pretty much summed up what's wrong with the scoreing. There were some others that had some good input but most everything else is just rehashed getting nowhere noise. I like to know how I did on a stage. I'm not going to win anything but my friends and I compete against each other. You cannot do that with USPSA scoring. Not adding a bunch of time with USPSA scoreing the stage means you can have a few more shots and still get the stage done in good time. At Reno I watched a couple of shooters maybe top 20 guys with a calculator before shooting the stage trying to figure out if they dropped a point here and there would it be faster. While much better shooters than I they fell into the goober catagory in my book. We're there to shoot not be CPA's. At non USPSA matches no major/minor and I have more fun there than at the National. I guess if you want my money change the scoring and you'll have a better chance of getting mine.
  12. JJ and Whiskey have some great ideas. Pretty much the rest of this could have been cut and pasted from the National at Reno. It doesn't seem USPSA has picked up clues that have been left. After reading this post the one constant is USPSA has forgotten the first two rules they should be following. 1. Have fun be safe. Lots of complaints on stage design and unsafe barrels 1. FPD Fun Per Dollar. USPSA must figure out the ratio of FPD to get people to attend. If it is location, time of year, location, stage design, prize table etc. It looks like USPSA is missing it. Could we call it a National there isn't any National(s) for 3 gun. I'm with Reg Shooter changing locations every year does place alot of burden on the club putting the match on. If the club has to spend a bunch of money getting the range ready and buying props, steel etc. let them have it 2 years and maybe they recoup some of their investment. The second year they should also have a better idea of how to do it also.
  13. All the stages don't need to be multigun but I do prefer that. More importantly is all the stages should be challenging and fun. Don't throw in a few targets just to add a gun to the stage. If it's fun I'll go.
  14. Yes a fixed pistol grip stock on a semi auto shotgun is legal in California law. The law everyone in all 50 states must conform with is 922r. To be compliant with a Benelli (any imported shotgun) you need to change 3 parts from their list to American made parts. The mag tube, not the extension is one part, the follower is another part. There is a list of other parts to choose from. The problem is finding them. One of the parts is a muzzle device. I am not a lawyer but.......... it sounds like a Briley choke tube would be a muzzle device. Or if you are shooting open there's all kinds of junk you can put on your gun, I dont know if any of them work. Yes the ffl is supposed to charge you tax. They can also charge you extra for receiving the firearm. Dealers can set their own fee for this. Some ffl's won't charge extra others will charge 150 bucks the rest somewhere in between. I'm not an open shooter but I agree with others I don't think the 18.5" ghetto blaster model would make a good open gun. 24" sounds better. In July the CA DOJ implemented a law that a transaction # must be obtained between the two ffls before a gun can be shipped. I'm told it's not a big deal but it's another hurdle and some ffls won't want to do this. This also applys to in state ffl transfer. If you are a wholesaler or ffl in California you are doing this. If you are a out of state dealer that might sell a gun to CA or not they might not want to bother. Buy your gear from www.speedshooters.com, www.davesmetalworks.com
  15. My experience has been there's JP and then everything else. You might think about getting a new trigger.
  16. Hey Jack you designed another great match. How was the bowling?
  17. I've had a DMW tube on my M1 for a number of years now it hasn't given me a bit of trouble. I put one on my M2 and no problems either. Color, fit, strong, and light enough. I'd buy another.
  18. At a large match, what about a junior division kids between the ages of 12 to 16? They must have a valid hunting license. 22's and a 410 or 20 gauge one stage per gun. They pick up a coupon with any purchase of $xx or more from their local match contributing gun store and they get to shoot for free. At the end of the match return the coupons for some kind of reimbursment. I know this is going to add more work and I'm not doing it. It's just an idea that may or may not be any good. That will be up to the promoter.
  19. Hey I'm not married to the mag limit idea I have everything I need. Somebody said stage design can negate the advantage of a large mag or put in a mandatory mag change ok. If you put in a mag change then you don't need a over 30 so why have it. If the regular match you attend doesn't design a stage to negate the advantage of the mag....... then I guess it is your advantage to have one. It is the limited class limit on pistol mag limit on shotgun rounds no limit on rifle rounds. I guess it the sort of limited class. I agree this is off topic and won't do a thing to bring new shooters to a match. After you get them there it's keeping them that matters most.
  20. Being competitive means different things to different people. For most of the shooters out there you want to be competitive against your friends and people in your squad. You squad up with somebody you don't know and see he or she is at your ability level then he or she stuffs in a beta or 45 round mag and runs the stage with no reload. You being a new shooter see you are at a disadvantage. Being an old guy I have all the "stuff" and I see the looks and get ribbed for using big mags when they have to do a reload. Practice is more important for a good finish I'll grant you but when you are first getting into the sport after you get past the Garand, Mossberg start you see how much it is going to cost. Have you seen the price of gas lots of shooters new and shooters that have been shooting for years won't have the disposable income to buy the extras that they feel they need to be competitive. If the mags larger than 30 rounds don't help as much then why allow them? Perception is reality. Are big mags going to stop somebody from shooting. the scoring system, the match rules, equipment rules, costs, locations going to stop people from shooting not by themselves but start stacking them together and they might. When I started shooting I had to travel over 300 miles round trip to a monthly match. That got old for my friends real quick and they wouldn't go. Now there is a match 40 miles away and they go.
  21. Keeping the startup costs in line would help. Limited and Scope Tac classes should have a 30 round mag limit. You can buy 30 round mags for 12 bucks or spend close to a hundred for a 45 round mag. You've just spent a bunch of money on your gear to come to a match and find out you need to spend some more to be competitive. 40 + rounds rifle hoser stages at a local match are over the top in my book. Ammo cost for that and what you get out of it just aren't worth it to me. If it's a bigger match that's different but not for club matches. I know some people live for those stages just my opinion. I paid $450 for 1k of 223 ammo. A 40 round hoser stage runs close to 20 bucks. My local 3 gun match costs right at $100.00 in just ammo. Throw in entry $35.00 something to drink, eat, gas to get there and you have zero'd in on a 200 dollar bill. Just the facts no complaints. I live in California and I don't see anybody promoting a 10 round class. Right now I think there is a small growth in 3 gun in California but it isn't going to keep growing and when I look at the age of the shooters (am I that old) you can see it dwindleing. Young people aren't going to shoot 3 gun in California for 2 reasons $$$ and being unable to get competitive equipment. There's not much you can do about the $$$ but give them a class where they can compete. Improve the invironment. Look at the Steel Challenge it's like shooting on the moon. Plant trees put up more shade make it more appealing so you can bring a spectator. The more your club has to offer the better the turnout. This might sound stupid but put the Andy Gumps in the shade. They are bathrooms not saunas. I don't think shooter classifications are keeping shooters away from this sport. I never gave that a thought when I started shooting it, and I haven't talked to anybody away from this forum that cared about it. I hear more about the different scoring methods. The scoring systems will never make everybody happy and what one person likes the other doesn't so you are going to have to live with the scoring system at the match you are shooting. Scoring systems don't keep the new shooter away either. Lack of promotion and so little exposure doesn't help grow the sport. Not being very exciting to watch doesn't help either. When a big match comes to town give the retailers something to advertise. Give them something to help get potiential customers in the store. Give them Team Springfield, Team JP, Team Benelli, Team Bushmaster, Team Remington, Team GG&G, Team Sports Drink, Team Sunglasses. You can't because they don't truely exist. Ok some of them might. But where are they? A match is 3 days long you get there on Thursday and sign up walk the course go out to dinner and start shooting on Friday. Where's the exposure? Give the local sporting goods/ gun store something to advertise. Help them promote the sport advertise for a week or two that Team whats his nutz is going to be at their store on Thursday from 6 to 8 signing autographs and handing out posters, showing you the gear, etc. They wear their team attire and promote the products. Pretty basic but richer sports than ours have been doing this for many many years. I hope everybody has fun, doesn't spend a fortune, and can even make a buck or two. Let the flames begin
  22. I've been shooting a 930 field gun with the barrel cut down to 21", screw ins installed and a DMW mag tube. (the gun belongs to DMW). The gun runs no jams. It's heavy, and needs some work to improve the loading. DWW is working on that now.
  23. I use the DMW speed bar on my Benelli. 8 years and it's still going strong. Not bad for 12 bucks.
