  1. Never had that "mess" happen with my Benelli. The more things change...the more they remain the same.....dependability issues with a SAIGA....imagine that?

 Errm, more like an AMMO issue. At the same match I saw a different shooter have to deal with the entire rim getting ripped off a round of factory Winchester AA (gun was a Winchester SX2 Practical IIRC). For such a high-quality shotshell, I was really surprised to see two different ammo-related problems in the same day... maybe Winchester's quality department needs a kick in the posterior ?

I've been seeing those same shells with lots of loose plastic coming off the front seal. No primer blow outs though.

  2. The only feedback I had, that I already discussed with the MD was that with as detailed as the killhouse was it was more of a simulation than a stage. This would have been fine if we could have verbally interrogated the targets with "Drop the gun!" "Stop", "show me your hands!" or something. and the RO or assistant could have yelled "threat", "innocent", or (Arnold voice) "I'm a cop you idiot!"...something along those lines.

Rival gang invasion could have been made more PC with "Red Team vs Blue Team" like the Team Fortress Computer Games and still have presented the same challenge.

  3. Michigan State 3 Gun Match

    Video:

The Michigan State 3 Gun Match hosted by the Livingston Gun Club was certainly a unique experience this year. Five of the eight stages were blind. The shooter had no idea what they were getting into until they went through the door. The shooter had to think much harder during the stages and constantly scan for targets. Two stages in addition to being blind required the shooter to determine what color of targets they were supposed to shoot after the shot clock went off; in one case clues in the room you woke up in and in another an intel-document you read on the clock. The dark kill house required the shooter to determine threat/non-threat based on weapons the 3-D targets were holding, clothing, or other visual cues (police badge for example).

Trooper Division was a very tight race this year with 17 shooters total. The top 4 slots were less than 22 seconds apart, and 3rd (my place) and 4th were less than 1.5 seconds apart. We typically havent seen scores this close together in Trooper Division at other competitions. People are definitely upping their game.

Saiga-12s have caught on in both Trooper and Open divisions. I spotted probably around a dozen total. Four of the eight shooters on my squad were using them. MD Arms 20 round drums were also common. No two of the guns were the same, many sporting a lot of the new custom add-ons.

Match attendance over all was way up from the previous year with 76 shooters total. The Livingston Gun Club puts on a quality match. If you live in the area or will be visiting I suggest checking it out.

  4. So is this for Olympic pattern uppers? Colt pattern (RRA, ASA, etc) would theoretically need a new bolt because Colt pattern is set up for double column feed, where the olympic is set up for single column feed.

  5. I shoot 3 Gun because of the following:

    1) diversity of challenges that we are faced with, and the fact it is rarely the same. You have to be good at a lot of different things to be good at 3 Gun.

    2) The continual challenge has forced me to improve my skills over the years in ways that I would not have by merely taking classes or practicing on my own.

    3) It has exposed me to new shooting concepts and ideas that I would not have otherwise encountered.

    4) Product testing and evaluation. More industry people need to be involved in the action shooting sports; then maybe there wouldn't be so much junk on the market.

    5) Objective testing of shooter skill and equipment on the clock sorts out a lot of the hypothetical debate BS we commonly find in the firearms community.

  6. I have a modular vest system that Coyote Tactical built for me. The different front pannels interchange with fastex buckels so I can swap it out for whatever I need to do.

    AR15 Mag carrier:

    Uzi/9mm AR/Glock 30 rounders. Holds 8

SAIGA-12, holds 4 ten rounders. This is the piece I most commonly use for 3 Gun matches, particularly Trooper Division. Subgun pouch is attached. I use Glock 30 rounders or Uzi mags in it depending on what the stage requires

    Back pieces:

Camelback can still be used as a stand alone unit:

    Pistol Belt:

Spec Ops Brand Belt and thigh rigs. VAPOR holster chassis has Safariland holster installed. I prefer the VAPOR holster chassis becuse the dual suspension system limits back and forth movement on the leg.

AR mag pouches on thigh are from Coyote Tactical. They are kydex lined.

The dump pouch was sized to hold 4 empty Saiga mags.

Suspenders help distribute the weight and add to comfort. Duty belt keepers make sure the pistol belt does not ride up over my pants belt.

If you see something you like Coyote Tactical can build it for you, e-mail coyotetactical@gmail.com

  7. The price isn't really that much more than a Gas Piston AR15 with all the same type of accessories the SCAR comes with.

It could very well be the next service rifle....Special Forces got them, the Rangers are deploying with them (based on an article I read), they could eventually trickle down into general issue.

  8. Anyone using a FN SCAR16s for 3 gun? Looking for any information you might have about this rifle.

    Thanks

Tasha Hanish used one at my Independence Day Action Rifle match this year. It worked as good as anything else, and we were shooting out to 300 yards.

  9. So what are the better options?.... TT Mav with the X-Harness.

The TT Mav holds shotgun shells and everything else is on the belt.

That's a better option right there.

The FLC tends to sag in the front when it is loaded down. It was designed to be worn over the IBA so the shoulder straps are thin, and don't feel comfortable over just a t-shirt. Just my opinion anyway.
