  1. Yep - thought of that shoot 175PF - if I make make major = hose more, make minor = aim more...... In the end it's about fun, right?
  2. Your load just did the opposite from mine - now I'm really confused..... From all the PC software, my experiance and what I've seen here - there is no way of telling what will happen..... Guess I'll go to 200PF, put in some Buffs/springs/rubber/etc and be safe.....
  3. This is what happend to me: At our club I PF 180 with 180gr 40 short-and-weak std gun - this is at ±1800m a.s.l. At a shoot in South Africa with the same outside temp (±28 degC) I made 170.2 PF (yes, too close for comfort ) altitude was ±900m a.s.l. Rel hum was in both cases ±70% I don't want to run 190/200 PF just to be sure I'll make it where ever I go - thus guidline as to something like loose 10fps per 500m altitude loss or similar might be helpful - all other factors (temp, hum, etc) staying the same.
  4. I will never see PD as a "saved cost" div - espeacially down here (I'll not go into the IPSC prices kills us debate here - I'll maybe start a new thread on that..... ). Example: Current exchange rate; ±N$6.50 = US$1.00. Thus according to the stated prices above a Glock would go for about N$3900 (US$600), when in fact it sells for N$6000 which is ±US$920. The same goes for the rest....(A CZ75B goes for N$7500 - thats more than a Glock.... ) It is currently cheaper to buy a good used CZ, Colt, Para, HP, etc (± US$350 - 450) and restore it, do changes, etc (±US$150 - 250) and be competitive - at least in this area of the world. Whats the first thing a new shooter to the sport buys if he/she pitches with there more-than-adequate pistol? Speed/sport holster, belt, mag pouches, etc - that sets you back another ±US$150 around here, thus more $$$-race..... - the reloading stuff/ammo/etc stay the same for all, no matter what. The PD is cheaper route thus does not gel.... I realy like the idea of PD, but not where it is going. Either keep it real strict - approved gun list and limit any mods to the pistols, thus creating a realy level playing field (one could even limit holster types and other acc to keep in the spirit) thus testing man and not machine - NO!!!! don't make it IDPA!!!!........or........Call it the DOA div - must fit box, DOA 5lb only, etc...thus creating the $$$$race again. I'm for keeping it real strict - specific guns with specific type sights, specific measurements (Box?????), specific acc/gismo's/thing-a-ma-call-it's, etc. off the shelf....this way the manufactures and smithies are all placed at a equal (dis)advantage and man will be tested. PD here is the "I'm getting into the sport" div, then most move to Std div and stay there. Very few go for Open due to the $$$$-race. In fact we have a zero growth in Open over the last 6 years, 300% growth in Std, and a steady amount of shooters in PD (since it started). After all the blah blah above - keep PD simple and thus competitive.....clear rules - no place for movement............ I'll now shut up!
  5. If this was answered already, please direct me in the right direction.... Has anybody done some practical research to determine by how much PF is affected by alititude? If've not been in a position to test it myself yet. Our club is at ±1800m above sea level - relativly high. Now we go to complete at 20m above sea level (or 900m for that fact) - by how much will my PF change all else remaining the same (temperature, gun, loads, humidity, etc)? The ballistic programs if used all give different answers - the one gives a vel change/decrease of 2 fps and the other with the same input perameters 75 fps. On a 180gr bullets that a diff of 0.36 to 13.5 PF Now what must I load - and where will my accuracy/POI go?
  6. Just to complicate things - and make them thus more clear to me...... I my brain believes the lies I tell it that my brain made up to start with - who's flooin' who here
  7. One of our guys drove a 125gr CMJ Frontier at 1700fps from his .38 Stupid ....sorry Super STI open gun..... with a stock that should do ok out to 200m given the correct sight adjustment? No mag length limit, easier reloads (which make up for only carrying 25 odd rounds)..... Has anyone tried this before - just so by the way?
  8. What have got against us vertically challenged people? And thats not my weight - its the ammo in my pockets.....
  9. CD - My thoughts exactly! So bottom line: What is the use of PD if we'll again end up with what we've got not in Std - yes except for DAO and minor....... Oops, the LDA is already a "bypass" for the DAO.....
  10. Yep, something like that and simmilar - legal?
  11. Excuse the Q if it was answered somewhere else - I did a search and didn't find anything (sill searching though....) Can a shooter use a pistol with rifle stock to shoot IPSC rifle matches if he makes factor, etc.? Examples that come to mind are machine pistols like Uzi's, etc, Muser Broomhandles if you want to screw up a collectable, Browning HP's, Glocks or Bul M5's with stock, etc. - 150 PF isn't that high.... I exclude the Wilson carbine conversion for 1911's since this can't be called a pistol any more... Thanx for the advice....
  12. Except for the missing magwell and the adjustable rear sight (which often is not a good idea) this gun is a fully tricked out std gun.... Except for the double action first shot and shorter barrel - whats the diff between PD and Std then anyway?
  13. I can understand the need for a "no tools rule" due to safety. We even have laws against speeding and still have to wear a safetybelt - and the law say which side of the road we drive, lots and lots of road signs, etc, etc, etc. - and accidents STILL happen These rules exist for the numbnuts amongst us who are going to shoot themselves or your wife/mistress/girlfriend on the side line. If you require tools to fix your gun, your gun wasn't fit (or your reloads) - clear, score as shot, next!
  14. I had the same paradox running through my brain a couple of months ago. Just to find out why we spend 10 hr to enjoy 10 min I shot the 32 round stage at our weekly club fun shoot as slow as I could - I mean stand, aim for dead centre, squeeze the trigger, aim for same hole squeeze the trigger - on all targets (2m to 50m)......and tell you what - I had enormous amounts of fun - and imediatly found out why I luv this game! Try it - might put things in perspective - and the faces of your pals is a sight not to be missed..... Shot the stage full house - snake eyes all the way - in something like 80+ seconds.......... - no running, it might destroy your aim for the next shot......
  15. how did you know i wear contacts???? will keep that tip in mind - and take spare contacts to the shoot! tnx
  16. This is probably a dead horse by now, but I would give him the proc. Why? Even if the guy did screw himself by moving back to the start position - which was not seen - a minus 10 hurts more than a .3 second loss (if he even did loose time on the draw!?! ).... He did not follow briefing procedures and moved.... My .02 without knowing all the details....
  17. I'm trying to picture this here: On signal draw - drop or move thong/undies to side Run to cover - undies around ankles, face in dirt, mussel stuck in barricade, bad guy is disabled by tactical laugh overdose What score would this guy get - fastest time, no shots fired and achieved the objective!
  18. Thanx all for your help. The sight I've designed - due to shipping from the states to here being a bit of a cramp - seems to be very similar to one of the Dawson sights you mention 9no I did not copy it - found it afterwards - could have saved some time ). Square post, ramped at the bottom, vertical top half, heavy serration on the front - cut downwards for no glare/reflection - we only shoot outdoors here in the bright African sun - small post ±1cm behind, hole drilled through front post in so that the "dot" appears centre of the Bomar notch if aiming normally. The FO will have no big dot, just the normal tube, but it will be recessed and countersunk into the aiming post by ±1-2mm to ensure the red dot remains in a nice a dark place..... The tube will be fully supported by the sight from front to back. Since my Para is an older model with no dovetail cut, I'm having a normal 45deg cut milled into the slide. The width of the sight will be between 0.1" and 0.125" - so that I'll have ±0.2mm light beside the post both sides when aiming - personal pref to see the light.... I'll post a pic when the sight/gun is done in ±2 - 3 weeks...having some other tuning work done as well - NM bushing, barrel fit - No 5 links seems short! etcetcetc... See soon...
  19. I've been contemplating the idea of installing a fibre front sight on my P16-40 with Bo-Mar rear (already installed)- used for standard div. Most of the sights on the market seem to be round at the top - making precise aiming a bit difficult and seen a bit low (my rear sight is mounted quite high - and still makes the box), so I’ve gone and designed my own to be built. Now the q's: Where should the "dot" be when aiming normally - centre of rear sight, top edge of front, etc? With the steal front I normally watched the sight - on the target - fit in the rear as my aim. Should I now watch the dot in the same "sequence" and if not, what is the use of the "dot" except that it seems to be a fashion thing that works for the top guys?
  20. What do you guys estimate the time of Eric - the french one - to be on that vid clip of his and what score?
  21. Aren't the IDPA lot supposed to shoot from concealed
  22. thanx been using maass as samples for some time now and "steal" ideas from various current shoots - seems to keep the locals happy..... will cont in the quest for the perfect shoot/stage - perfect challange, easy to set up, all the mods and cons, nobody full score and everybody with a smile on their face while keeping with all rules and safety.........
  23. thanx for the tip, just got the other prob as well - not that many IPSC shooters here - total of ±25 active (we're up over 300% in 18 months!!!!!!). Thought of assigning stages to teams - get it done by shooting day or don't shoot!
  24. I realy enjoy new comers to the sport , so far, and most over here, out of their own, helped to patch and pick - the kind of shooters we need more of - and learn a lot that way. It however still boils down to: if you're not informed, get informed. New people come and say hi, chat to the RO (and competitors during breaks) and learn the game. No matter how big the squad or match - give the competitors their space and time. Most are very friendly when "off" and all don't want to be disturbed (by other shooters and spectators) when "on". I would have done the same - ask her to leave politly and help her afterwards - if requested... The language think - that was the sole responsibility of her better half - I assume he knows the "rules" and should have taken care of her - its called beeing considerate and respectful. My bit for what its worth...
  25. I'm using a two-piece screw in stainless steel guid rod with shok-buff - works like a charm....just don't oil the thread to much - tends to shoot loose after couple of hundred round , but then again a allan key is easier to use than removing rust.....
