Regular maintenance, no.  When you have the gun apart for detailed cleaning, check to make sure the spring is still good and the pocket isn't full of crud and the pin isn't walking and good to go.

    Sounds very doable!

    Thanks for your detailed feedback!

Thanks for posting the review and pics.  I’m excited to receive mine.  This will be my first 2011.

I too switched my order to the LOC, and David said it wouldn’t affect the build date.  I placed the order March 1, so should be receiving it soon.

Which grip texture did you select, and do you like it?  I prefer aggressive and went with the S3, which I’ve read reviews of being a cheese grater.

Since I have "retired" hands, they aren't as tough as they once were.....so I chose the S2.  It's plenty aggressive for me.

May want to do a personal assessment of what you've been used to; and if you have any doubts, discuss it with David.  I feel you could send the pistol back, while it's in new condition, and have the grip swapped if your not 100% satisfied.

I share your excitement on waiting for it to arrive!  You'll love it!

Competing in USPSA matches is where I learned about toolless GR's. The Dawsons worked well for me, or I wouldn't have kept them in a match gun. As to whether Atlas makes a good model, I've never used one so I can't say.

Either one eliminates keeping a paperclip as a required bit of kit.

I've used Dawsons since he invented the toolless guide rod a couple decades ago.   In all my competition guns.  So, figure more 20 years and well over a quarter-million rounds downrange.   Never had a single problem with them.

Yea, I've used a lot of Dawson products over the years, and never had an issue.  Just haven't used the TLGR in a competition pistol.

I am very OCD on the maintenance and regular cleaning of my pistols.  Would the TLGRs require any specific or additional maintenance requirements I may not be familiar with?

Thanks to you both for your feedback!

I put Dawson toolless in everything they'll fit into.  So much easier.

Toolless. Like shred I prefer Dawson, if available.

I've used Dawson before in a fun/range STI; but never in competition..........so @shred and @ima45dv8you would prefer the Dawson over an Atlas for competition?

    THANKS for your feedback!

  5. I've read several posts for and against the tool less guide rods.

Looking for recommendations from those shooting Limited type 2011 Competition pistols.............do you prefer the one piece GR that uses the take down tool (paper clip) or the tool less?

I really like the tool less for convenience during take down and/or cleaning, and am considering the Atlas unit.  But if the seasoned veterans here deem them prone to failure, I will stick with the one piece with take down tool.

    Thanks for your feedback!

Beautiful DS! Did you buy it off the shelf or have it built?

If built…. How was the actual lead time compared to their estimate at time of order ?

I actually ordered a DS9 Hybrid on February 7, and then switched my build to the LO Comp once they announced it.  Their web page shows current time 14-16 weeks.  My LOC was ready to ship in the 13th week.

I definitely wanted a specific list of options and coating combination; so I ordered one.  For those looking to purchase "off the shelf" Shooter's Connection in KY is a Platinum Dealer.

One point that hasn't been mentioned is the relative reliability and maintenance upkeep of 2011s vs. a CZ based platform (excluding Open which is its own separate thing).

I shot single stack minor for 2.5 years before switching to CO and landing on a Tanfo. One of the key reasons I'd be hesitant to switch to LO using a 2011 now is the lower reliability of the 2011/1911 platform. I seem to see far more 2011s choke or have issues, both pre-LO and now with provisional LO vs. people shooting CZ platforms. While I agree I'd likely shoot a 2011 that 5% better than my tanfo, I'm actually not sure if it's worth the relative tradeoff in reliability if it means the increased possibility of having a bad malfunction that would drop a stage much more than that. I also feel more comfortable with extended cleaning intervals on my Tanfo vs. my 1911, especially shooting 9mm, which is just nice overall not worrying too much about cleaning before local matches

After a brief season in Production using an S2 Orange, and now switching (from CO) back to the 2011 platform for LO, I can respectfully disagree as IMO the function/operation of the CZ fire control group is extremely more complicated that that of a 1911/2011!  And I honestly feel the historical data would prove that platform to be one of the most reliable/easily maintained designs ever used in competition.

As @ltdmstrnoted in his experience, I think the numbers speak for themselves!

It would be interesting if somebody like Christian sailor showed up to shoot limited optics. Wonder if something like that would draw other competitors in or just scare them all off

Not sure if this event drew National attention; but he was competing with a DS9..........

Awesome review. I will be doing an extensive ammo test with video in a couple weeks.

the thing I think is most peculiar is at the last two matches that I've shot with my LOC the first round fired on the first stage has actually distracted me due to the fact that it's so soft ...lol

Where did u get that stand,?

Thanks Wayne!  I still need to test the Black Dot and then finalize everything in the Ransom Rest; but I was so shocked that my current match load did so well in this initial bench test!  At least I can settle in with that load until I find time to do further testing.  I also want to video/test some return to zero drills and see if I need to try a +/- RC spring.

The display stand?  If so, it's the LOK Grips offering.  They have some nice stands that actually display the pistol with the slide horizontal!

I'll definitely be looking out for your extensive ammo test!  I'd sure like to hear the details of your process/procedures!

    Thanks again!

I feel really dumb now. I deal with so many acronyms at work they were colliding in my head.

Hey!  It happens to us all.......to many acronyms in this day and age!

    Glad to help!

  11. It's in the house!

My OCD had me waiting a few days on the perfect mounting screws for the SRO and some MBX Extreme springs/followers; but finally got a chance to get to the range for testing/sight-in.  After my initial safety tests/shots and RDS sight in,  I got ~100 rounds of factory 124g & 115g rounds downrange.  Not the first issue/problem/disappointment. Function was perfect with the factory loads; and my test loads off the bench.  I verified a 9# RC spring from the factory.  Ejection was ~4:00 at 4ft.

Bench resting during sight in with factory ammo I had on hand showed it liked the 124g over the 115g.  Of course I have not loaded any 115g so couldn't go there;  however, the last couple of groups I tested were with my existing match load of N330 and PD 124JHPs.  I think these will do for now............  ;)

Welcome any constructive comments and/or questions!

Got a LOT OF PRACTICE ahead of me to get ready for my first match next month; but my love affair of the 1911/2011 platform has been rekindled!!!!

Just heard back. They’re special order and an 8 week lead time….

    and now my watch begins!

What exactly are you looking for?  bull barrel?  threaded?  overall length?  what ramp cut?  Gunsmith fit or drop in?

Well, Maybe I need to try some N330.  Is it just as soft as N320?  How many grains are you using for the 124s?

IMO, yes it's just as soft...........a little slower burn rate but about the same energy.........

4.7g @ 1.080" which yielded a 135-136PF IIRC.  This fell right in line with KKM's recommendation.......

    Try it..........you'll like it!  ;)

You dusted me.  I don't think my issue is the load or the gun.  I'm still learning the best way for "me" to pull the P320 trigger.  1911s are easy.

Like you, I've always been a fan of VV N320; especially with the 147g bullets.  At the recommendation of Luke/KKM, I bought some N330 to test with the 124/125g JHPs.  It definitely tightened up the groups a bit.......

Sent the MAX to TSA for his competition package.  Have to say it's as close to a 1911 trigger as ANY striker fired pistol I've had in my hands!  We actually discussed that issue prior to him doing the work...........  🤔

1911's are easy???  YES!  Like you, I've also had a love affair with the 1911/2011 platform for right at 50 years!  I enjoy their fire control system more than any other!!!  👍

BTW:  this is that same "match load" I bench rested yesterday in the new LO pistol:

I know this is a very old thread, but it’s the only one I found talking about the kkm hybrid barrels. I’m looking for one in 9 and wondering if anyone had a lead on when or if shooters will get any or a line on where I can find one.

Have you thought about ordering one directly from KKM?

  17. After a LENGTHY discussion with Luke at KKM, he recommended I use the xtp type 124/125 JHPs with my new 1:16 twist KKM barrel in the P320 MAX.

Final test session comparing load results in the Ransom Rest, I settled on this combo:

IMO, it won't get much better than this in a P320 type pistol.........

Just got the message that mine is finishing up this week.  Likely sell my Rafferty 9mm open pistol then as its just not getting used but need a dot due to the eyes not what they used to be.

In the same boat re: needing a "dot"!

    You'll love the DH9!
