  1. I was lucky to get enough of the compliant 9mm 15 rounders for normal prices awhile back. I think that act-mag will be making 15 rounders as well, I have no info on the quality.
  2. Will you reload 40 or run factory ammo? I do not think that factory 40 makes major. I went with the 9-Pro for my open gun, with the carver 3 port comp. I pull the comp off for idpa, and I run it with the comp for uspsa minor and steel. I don't reload yet, saving my brass for when I will make my own 9 major rounds. It does not run flat with 9 minor. The comp does work, maybe not very efficient, but I really enjoy the way it looks and the way it runs.
  3. Yes, tried several and I am down to the 12lb and 14lb are very close, but the non-existant Wolff 13 could be perfect. Does stretchong a spring do anything to increase strength, or is the way to go to cut a coil or 2. As both will destroy the spring if it doesn't work, looking for opinions as to which may have the best chance. Thanks!
  4. I started my kids on 22lr conversion kit on a 1911. After that I went to 9mm. The M&P 9 I feel is a bit oversprung, if you drop the spring down perhaps she can rack the slide. Also look at the grip, my kids are fine if they palm the top-rear of the slide so they have more fingers on the serrations.
  5. I went inexpensive with the BlackHawk single mag holder. Works well with several different mag brands.
  6. Does midway ever get the factory 15 rounders in 9mm?
  7. How often are you getting light strikes? Try federal ammo. I wish I tried it sooner. That's all I will shoot going forward.Fyi with federal, I had to no problem using 11# recoil spring & reduce powered striker spring I have been running Aguila mostly because the cost is lower, i will try Federal next, thanks!
  8. I can see green the brightest, but for tracking movement I pick up the red much faster.
  9. My eyes pick up the thicker 0.060 rods from Dawson better, a bigger dot and brighter. I also tried green vs red, the green may be easier to see, but I pick up and track the red faster.
  10. I pulled my firing pin (I didnt know how easy it was to remove), and there are no signs at all of peening or anything rubbing. I think I just did too many changes at once and everythong needed to settle. It was the FSS, lighter slide spring, and slide was just ceracoated.
  11. I have a burris fastfire mounted on the dovetail of my mk2 for steel, and I have been looking at this frame "VOLQUARTSEN - RUGER MKII/III TARGET FRAME". It looks great, but the cost is higher than that of my mk2. Maybe you can find a beater at a pawn shop?
  12. I did something similar, just had my 9Pro slide lightened, and with the comp installed the stock spring is too strong. I am at the point where the wolff 12 lb spring is just a tad too light, yet the 14 lb spring is a tad too strong. (They dont make a 13lb spring) So, should I stretch the 12 lb to get a little more strength, or should I cut off a coil or 2 from the 14lb?
  13. I just installed the FSS kit in my 9Pro. I did not need to adjust the hook at all. However, for about the first 20 or so rounds I had about 5 or 6 light strikes. It was then fine for the next 100 rounds. When I pulled the slide, the striker block is still working fine. Is there anything I should keep a look out for in the future? How many of these FSS kits are out there? Are there hundreds with only a few outliers, or is this mostly a good kit once its running?
  14. I also dropped in the Apex FSS. Much better trigger over the stock hinged unit.
  15. I also took advantage of the cold weather downtime, and sent my 9Pro slide off to Doug at dpcustomworks. It came out great! I have 4 angle-cuts in the front, and had the back milled for my Trijicon RMR. I use it for steel and uspsa open minor. Before that I had the RMR sitting in a dovetail mount. I only had 1 range session so far, but its much easier to get a sight picture now with it lowered.
  16. I have the Wolff rod with a 12lb spring. While pushing on the back, i walk the front one coil at a time. Just one slip and it sproings off.this same method also works with the 14lb spring.
  17. How can you tell which pin you have? If I look at the top of my pin, I can see a donut-hole in the middle. Does the solid pin have a dimple, or is this a roll pin?
  18. How did you like the SSS mount? The 4 stabilizing screws looks like it would keep the platform very stable.
  19. It's not very quick and easy to switch barrels once the comp is in place. You need to use red loctite or something similar to keep the comp in place and it's a pain to remove it once it's set. Would it stay in place using blue loctite for a match of 150 rounds of factory ammo? I rarely shoot in more than 1 match per month, so even if I need to reapply the blue before each match is no problem at all. Remember, I am looking for good-enough for a low end D class
  20. I am also looking at turning my MP-9-Pro into an inexpensive casual uspsa open pistol (minor). My main use is at local matches to spend time with my sons, so speed and scoring is not the issue, fun is! I am currently using it in production division, but as the eyes change I need to switch over to a red-dot soon. I have a solid rail mount for by burris, so I don't have to play with the stock sights. I was looking at either the storm-lake ported barrel vs the carver comp. I run factory 9mm ammo, usually 124gr. I am leaning towards the carver setup with an 11lb spring. It does cost a little bit more than just the ported barrel, but I do like the look and from the posts here the ported barrel was not as effective. It will also be quick to switch it back to stock for the occasional idpa match. Are there other options, or does this seem like a solid plan for my use?
