  1. Having a little experience with my 646 let me give you what has worked for me with mine.

    Sticky chambers:

Mine would start sticking after the third moonclip when shooting major with brass cartridges straight from the factory. I also noticed the chambers were in spec, bit on the small end of the scale. My cure. Using the ever faithful dremel tool and the polishing tip l used the polishing compound FLITZ and polished every chamber until mirror shiney. I then loaded up 15 moonclips of the same load l use in my STI limited gun and shot all 15 clips without stopping to check for stickey. NO problems except the cylinder got very HOT !!!!!! Somewhere before l polished the cylinder holes l did test to see if nickle brass helped with the sticking problem and it did help dramaticly.

So now in major matches you will see me shooting my 646 with major loads using nickle brass (juzt in case)

I did shoot an entire match last month using factory Winchester White box just to test if the brass migt stick and had no problem at all (did not clean the cylinder of the gun all match either).

My major load for my 6" AND Liz's 4" 646 is nickle brass, federal small pistol primers, precision delta 180 grn round nose flat point fmj (closest thing to a real round nose in that weight i have found) and Vit N320 loaded to factory length which puts the radious of the bullet just barely out of the case for more consistant reloads. I dont remember the powder charge zo i'm not even going to guess.

Recoil is a fast impulse that is very snappy that i like. My 625 & 25-2 s more kind of shove compared to the 646 even with the 6" bbl.

I am not a metalurgest ( wow 25 cent word ) so i personally cant help on the upsizing of the 686 cylinder. If you do like toolguy and do make one minor loads should be in order until you can get more info from a metalurgest. It may be you just need to reheat treat, or case harden. Just my thoughts on the upsizing.

  2. Mike have you ever followed the revolver squads at the nationals ? More often than not they are waiting on the squad infront of them. Yes maybe as a whole the total stage times are slower, but as a general rule reset times are faster. Generally

Jake is right, and it is an awesome range! ! ! ! ! Hoping to make this match myself. Gotta get a few things cleared up first

  3. Here we go again for just a little more.

TGO, You are Personally invited to the 2013 Memphis Charity Challenge November 1 and 2.....Please bring both your 625 and your 627 (by the way Sprinfield has been the Match Sponsor from the beginning and you have always had a free slot. I guess it just hasn't been forwarded to you)

USPSA as it is now for a Revolver to shoot is a challenge to make a 6 round capacity gun fit into a game that is based on 8 shots per general shooting area unless the stage is designed by someone who puts a bunch of thought into the stages to make them " NO GUN FRIENDLY"

To shoot a Revolver in USPSA now 1 of the challenges it to be able to work in the several reloads where they are not in a "Good Spot" to do so. That is part of the game as it is and as a MD and Stage designer for the MCC my stages are quite more "revolver friendly" but they are still USPSA stages with all the same challenges.

Good stage design will help keep a 6+ round gun shooting minor competitive with the 6 major guns. Until the Stage designers learn how to make the stages "no gun friendly" the 6+ minor guns will have a small advantage.

The 2012 Memphis Charity Challenge had a smaller showing than the previous matches. Several reasons, one the Steel Challenge was scheduled on the same weekend, but there were other reasons I was told. I even told Matt Griffin to stay home and let his arm heal after the nationals where he competed with the other 16 revolver shooters.....Where was I for Nationals? @ home, I've been to 7 National Championships I know where I stand with everyone and now that I've hurt my "Good hip" I didn't see the need to spend $3000 (What is costs me in lost time @ work, ect. ect.) to get hit by a bouncing ricochet or shoot the same place I always have.

I would love to see anything to help the division grow. allowing 6+ to shoot minor and not have to reload after 6 shots is cool with me as I voted no change for me. Would I go buy one? NO......I'm gonna kick your ass with MY 646----Notice I didn't say 625 ??? and make you like it (after I get a hip replacement and can move again "Hopefully)

If the powers that be decide not to allow 6+ guns, maybe drop the Change to open for more than 6 before the reload to a procedural per shot fired after 6....I'm good with that too. I'm still gonna kick your ass with my 646 and make you like it.

USPSA has its own UNIQUE challenges for a revolver that ICORE doesn't and that is why I shoot USPSA with a revolver. ICORE is around where I live (Gotta drive but I can get there) but I still choose to shoot USPSA.

Oh Bye the way the 2013 Memphis Charity Challenge will be held November 1 and 2 We may be doing some changes, pay attention later at the Match listings.

I voted NO change for me. I'll still shoot my 646 Major, might shot it Minor but I'll still be doing everything in my abilities to KICK YOUR ASS !!!!!

TGO Thank you for your help !!!!!

Sam Keen ONE of the 15 ish Revolver Grand Masters .

  4. I'll put my $ .02 in.

    First observation:

Revolver as a division in USPSA will always be the smallest division. The game is built for Autoloading pistols. (as are most stages except mine)

2 nd observation: Just talking about it here will always be just that (talking about it here). The powers that be at USPSA look at these forums, and occasionally add a comment or two. If the idea is to be pushed toward the leadership of USPSA someone (or several) have to get the leadership involved.

3 rd observation: Stages, by rule can't have more than 8 shots from an array or general area. The good stage designers can make their stages NO gun advantagous, but most don't or can't (Even the National Championships).

4 th observation: Because of observation 3, 8 shot guns even if scored minor have an advantage over 6 shooters shooting Major Except in the hands of the very best shooters who have the passion to prove observation 3 wrong.

My personal feelings is mixed. I would not stop shooting USPSA if the rule was changed to allow 8 shots @ minor, and I wouldn't stop shooting Revo, but I would likely go back to Autopistols more often, and just shoot a big match or two with the Revolver (My thoughts and feelings now).

I have pushed as hard or harder than most to try and help make the revolver division grow in USPSA than any in the last 8 or more years, and compared to when I started it has. I can't tell you how much by percentage vs the other divisions by percentage but Like a friend of mine said when we were talking about the MCC not growing( a whole nother subject). We are working from a small base of pretty much pureists and an outdated platform.

I voted No change for me. Life and work has consumed my shooting time in the last few years so some of the "Passion and drive" is no longer there for me. So any way it pans out (If someone can get a change in the wind going........ Carmoney you seem to talk about it more than any) is fine with me. I'll still show up and shoot something, somewhere.
