  1. I have been hunting deer with handguns for about 5 years now. Started off with a Ruger Super Redhawk chambered for 454 Cassull Plenty big for deer and Elk at close range (70 yds would be my personal limit) The 454 is WAY too much for deer, and I soon started using 45 long colt loaded with good Hornady xpt bullets. Loaded almost to 44 mag power (don't do this in any other 45colt but Super redhawks). I ran across a Smith 657 6 inch(41 Rem Mag) and havee been using it since and have had good success with it out to 125 yds. The suggestion of a 610 is a valid suggestion. using the 40 S&W for your steel matches with maybe 155 grn round nose for a soft shooter. Then hunt with 10mm as it is almost identical to the 41 magnum and will do all you ever asked for deer sized game (Pretty darn good on Hogs too). 1 gun several uses !!!! Hopalong

  2. Wow !!!!!

I guessed the new format would be a little controversial, but for some to say they aren't coming because it MIGHT show that 8 shot minor would be the all consuming DEMON !!!!!

I personnally don't like the idea of expanding the division(I still think any revolver over 6 shots is a Bastard ), but I also see it not growing after a small growth spurt from 2008-2011.

I have heard rumblings of Limited 10 and Revolver Divisions getting the AX ever since I started shooting USPSA in 2001. Here is my opinion on that (see tag line on Opinions) Limited 10 will always be a part of USPSA because of current laws in some states (HI, NY ect) Revolver on the other hand can be removed should the BOD decide to. Our current BOD is likely the best supporter of the Division that we've had since I've been shooting the division, and they along with our new President are looking for ways to keep the division as close to it's traditions yet expand it to help it grow better than it's anemic pace it is at now.

I don't know who said that the matches will be won by the guy who shoots center fastest earlier in the posts, but that is it in a nutshell UNTIL you put the difference in scoring on paper targets. Single stack has PROVEN that as no MINOR gun has won since the change.

After a few years of shooting revolver (about the time Carmoney came back into the game) there were and still are the same group of guys that always traveled and shot together and at that time any one of the 8ish would win if Jerry wasn't there. Nills came and went, Matt came, and Josh came. David O shoots when he can but other than them it is still the same guys up at the top of the list with a few now that have been working thier asses off. My prediction if the division wen't to allowing 8 shot minor ?

The same people will be in the same place with just a little movement up and down the board.

I will still be shooting my 6 shot gun no matter what (I also shoot them in ICORE and have won a match or two vs the 8s) and I challenge all and anyone to show up at the MCC and try to match my 6 shooter with theirs, or if they want to try 6+ bring it on !!!!!

I'm still working out of town and will be doing so through June, so work on the 2013 MCC is rather slow and behind where I want it to be, but November 1 we will be hammer down @ 9ish AM if all goes well. Please come help me prove that 8 shots minor are no advantage to the division as I;ll be doing all I can to whip the tails of all the whimpy soft shooting minor guns !!!!!

By the way the 2012 MCC will be donating another $3000 to LeBohneur Childrens Hospital for a running total of $16,000 dontated to Childrens Hospitals since it started !!!!! (come help us get them more)

  3. Pay attention to how many shots, and what kind of targets during the walk through or when pre reading the stage brief.

Find ALL the required shots !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now find them in bunches that are managable (your not going to shoot the whole stage with one moonclip so don't try to remember it like you are).

Go from one group doing the most effecient way through them to another.

IF for some reason during the stage and you get off because of a miss on steel or a make up on paper. do the reload and make up the shots if they are worth it. THEN when you get to the next bunch reload and get back on track emphasizing POINTS since you have lost your time you were going to have.......GET THE POINTS that are left in the stage to GET !!!!!!

DON'T be afraid to shoot different than all the other shooters......even other revolver shooters...........Shoot to your own skills !!!!!

  4. News !!!!!

The 2013 Memphis Charity Challenge will be shot in a new format !!!!!

Friday and Saturday Squads with a total of 150 shooters for the match !!!!!

Thursday Stages will be open for observation after 12:00 with a few Range officers shooting them for score and proofing.

    Bigger and Better news !!!!!

The 2013 Memphis Charity Challenge will be a level l USPSA sanctioned match (like a club level, so no USPSA membership required, but suggested)

The 2013 Memphis Charity Challenge will also waive the ruling in the Revolver division that requires a reload after 6 shots so we can use the match as a test bed for the 6 shots Major vs 6+ Minor debate. I have personally asked a handfull of different skill level shooters to bring both types of guns and shoot both days to also have that type of information. If I didn't ask you don't be offended it is NOT personal.

So When we get the entry forms up (soon) IF you decide to shoot your 6+ shot revolver you MUST shoot it with MINOR scoring even if it can make major.

Price to enter will also go down to $100.00 instead of the previous years costs. It will be 9 stages and will take 200+/- rounds to complete the match.

Paul Hernandez will again be the Range Master and has agreed that the Memphis Charity Challenge is the proper place to test this concept !!!!

Thanks and Schedule the First Weekend in November to be in Memphis, Tennessee.

    (Elvis voice.......ThankYouVeryMuch) :goof:

  5. Made A class in Limited before going to revolver. Was shooting about 20k or less a year and had a Very Good GM helping me personally.

Switched to Revolver starting in B went to M in a year with nightly 1+ hr dry fire (reload practice). Still shooting the less than 20k.

Had 20 gallons of loaded ammo (45) ready and our work dropped out for almost a year= lots of time to shoot live fire. Shot a club match every weekend of the month (was still single) and a Major every other month. (40k+ that year) Work started getting better then died again about 3 months before Nationals so I was shooting 1000 rounds a day M-F and a club match every weekend plus a major a month till Nationals. Won 2 stages outright that year at Nationals and was 8th overall and shot 81% of Jerry Miculek who won....so pretty close to shooting what my classification card said.

Shot about 50k that year. The big thing is I was working on making a bigger tool box full of tools to use, and not just shooting. For some people it may take more, but for me the two years of 40-50k and then a 30k year after that was the trick. Made GM at the first Memphis Charity Challenge shooting Paper Poppers a stage in the match. Won the stage with Jerry coming in second by about half a second.

Now I shoot about 10k a year max if that much. I can tell the difference but results on paper are fairly close at the end of the match day.

  6. Got a quick second before I go to Kentucky to work.

What a beautiful weekend for shooting !!!!!!!

It was good to see familiar faces and catch up. Was good to see some new ones and get to know you.

Thanks goes out to the Alabama section, and all the staff of the Heart of Dixie Shootout. You guys and gals made my Job EASY !!!!!

A BIG Thank You goes out to Mark and Alan for the invite and great set up crew. We had the stages proofed in half a day !!!!!

Thank You to the shooters, when we had issues everyone was polite and even when I was the bearer of bad news never was there a sour face like I've seen at matches in the past.

    Congratulations to the Winners !!!!

My opinion is that Mark has caused himself a good bit of work in the future as it looks to me like The Heart of Dixie Shootout is here to stay !!!!

  7. To answer the question about whether the BOD knows about the intrest and the poll.......I can definately say YES !!!! as at least 1 of the BOD members is participating in the discussion right Flex ?

I have spoken with a couple others and the President about this issue and a few others. They are aware of the comments and are taking it into consideration.......but this stuff takes time so be patient.

  8. Daniele,

I have a feeling that (cylinder) will be the needle in the haystack as that is the key component to this caliber in this gun. Here in the US I would check Numerick or Pilkguns (do a google as I might have missed the spelling).

How has your 646 stood up to the 30K ? and always IPSC Major ?
